At the college level, they learn responsibility, accountability,work ethic, time management, etc - all the things you want in an employee you'd hire. I'd take a 4 year college athlete over another candidate with similar qualifications every time. Isn't that what we want college to prepare them for?


I run an in-demand graduate level educational program (over 1000 applications for a very limited number of seats) and I will take a college athlete in a second (assuming they have the academic credentials) over a non-athlete. They understand commitment, teamwork, communication, time management, leadership, and how to lose gracefully. This seems to be true regardless of the sport. Those are key attributes in any workplace and if they come in with them already, we are that much ahead of the game.
