To be clear the tryout is not a recruiting event - if you make the team and play over the summer that is a recruiting event.
Not a recruiting event, it's an expensive waste of time during a very important recruiting summer. Used to be a fun event leading up to recruiting when the first boys started committing after 9th grade. Just one more experience ruined by early recruiting. Brine also got greedy, holding two expensive tryouts, then having kids show up who skip the first tryout. Money better spent on recruiting showcases.
My son did it last year. It was expensive and fun but the coaches weren't looking at the middle school boys. They focused on the high school teams. If you are looking for a recruiting event this is not it. If your son just wants to have fun and represent long island with boys he normally plays against it's worth it. It was also oppressively hot last year. 100 degrees and no shade. Keep that in mind.
