Recruiting doesn’t really start until fall of your sophomore year, coaches live in the now and aren’t even thinking about 27 and younger.

Wrong. The longer the club coaches and recruiting director know about a player firsthand, the better. Using M&D as an example, you know Scott R. is saying to schools, “player x has been with M&D for 4 years, so blah blah blah.”
