Results of the MLL's Expansion Draft
The MLL's Expansion Draft took place this afternoon (Wednesday), and full results appear below.
Trades made today included the following:
The Charlotte Hounds traded their 1st overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft and Max Quinzani to the LI Lizards in return for Matt Danowski, Stephen Berger, the 20th overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft, and LI's 3rd round selection in the 2013 Collegiate Draft. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Hounds war room was buzzing with scenarios and excitement leading up and into the 2012 MLL Expansion Draft. After discussions with the Long Island Lizards, the Hounds selected Max Quinzani with the 4th overall selection and immediately dealt him to the Lizards as part of a huge deal.
The Hounds traded Max Quinzani and the #1 overall 2012 MLL Collegiate Pick for former Team USA starting attackman Matt Danowski (A), Stephen Berger (M), the 20th overall 2012 MLL Collegiate Pick and a 3rd Round 2013 MLL Collegiate Pick.
“The 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft is loaded with talent, particularly at the top. Rob Pannell and Steele Stanwick are highly coveted and will make an immediate, positive impact wherever they land. Despite the strength in the Draft, we saw an opportunity to leverage the top pick to bring in two of the top 20 players in the league.” said Hounds staffer Wade Leaphart.
“We're thrilled. We see Matt and Stephen as building blocks for us. Two great MLL pros with a rich pedigree,” added Coach Mike Cerino.

BOTC has received a note from very close sources to the Long Island Lizards. The internal noise following the draft is huge, fan discontent has been hitting the front office, and the intense dislike for their General Manager is emerging.
Text of the note follows.
Loss of three great fan fav players. One Matt danowski was one of the best college players in the game and league top 10 in scoring for last few years.
Coach is leaving and they didn't secure at least two other popular players one the league all time scorers. Many others unhappy due to moves by Casey Hilpert, the very young GM. Who is widely disliked. Many fans of the team are very unhappy.

Mule Steps Down as Lizard's Head Coach, Hilpert Issues Statement
The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced late last week that Jimmy Mule has stepped down from his position as head coach to spend more time with family, according to Lizards General Manager Casey Hilpert.
“Jimmy was looking for the opportunity to spend time with family during the summer months. He has three young children who he also coaches in lacrosse. He always gives us so much throughout the season and during the off-season and he’s looking forward to spending some of that time with his family,” said Hilpert.
“It was an extremely difficult decision to make after investing seven seasons with the Lizards, but it was the right choice to make for my family,” said former Lizards Head Coach Jimmy Mule. “I hope to return to the organization in some capacity down the road. I wish the team the best of luck in the upcoming MLL seasons.”
Mule coached the Lizards from 2005 to 2011, leading them to the post-season in 2005, 2009 and 2010. The Long Island native posted an overall season record of 37-47 and a playoff record of 2-3. In 2011 the Lizards were 5-7 and finished fifth in the league. Mule was named the MLL Coach of the Year in 2010.
Prior to coaching for the Lizards, Mule coached for the Bridgeport Barrage from 2003 to 2004 where he helped lead the ’04 Barrage team to the MLL Championships and to win the Steinfeld Trophy. Mule was also a goaltender in the league before his years as a coach. He was drafted in the second round (12th overall) of the 2001 MLL Draft and was the starting goalie for the Barrage in 2001 and 2002.
The Lizards will immediately conduct a national search for the next head coach of the Long Island organization. Hilpert says the next candidate will have big shoes to fill in the wake of Mule’s departure.
“Jimmy has been a valuable part of this organization since he took over in 2005. He’ll be a tough guy to replace as he had a great relationship with the players and was an unbelievable scout of talent within the collegiate level and Major League Lacrosse.”
Though the Lizards have not named anyone of interest, they will be seeking candidates with MLL experience to fill the position. The team added that they will be looking to name a coach as soon as possible, but will hold out for the right person with MLL coaching or playing experience.
The news comes directly after the team traded star attackman Matt Danowski and midfielder Stephen Berger to the newly formed Charlotte Hounds during Wednesday’s MLL Expansion Draft in exchange for the No. 1 pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft. The 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft will take place on Jan. 13, 2012 in Philadelphia, PA during the US Lacrosse National Convention.

Spalina Traded, Danowski Traded ... and Reactions
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) held its 2012 Expansion Draft on Wednesday which brought forth not only major roster changes throughout the league, but a blockbuster trade between the new Charlotte Hounds and the Long Island Lizard.
During the draft, MLL announced the Charlotte Hounds would acquire Lizards’ attack and midfield staples, Matt Danowski and Stephen Berger, as well as two draft picks in exchange for the No. 1 MLL Collegiate Draft pick. Additionally, the Hounds would surrender MLL All-Star and former Boston Cannons attackman Max Quinzani, who was drafted by Charlotte in the second round (4th overall selection) of Wednesday’s Expansion Draft.
“We’ve always had Matt Danowski and Stephen Berger as two of our main guys on this team,” said Long Island Lizards General Manager Casey Hilpert. “They’ve both been tremendous teammates and great for this organization so it was a very difficult decision for us to make. It’s tough to lose staples in your offense, but at the same time, we feel that we now have a few pieces that will help us win next season.”
The few pieces Hilpert refers to include Quinzani and the coveted No. 1 selection in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft that will take place on January 13, 2012 in Philadelphia, PA. The Lizards have not yet announced which current collegiate star tops their list, but they do say the team is looking to fill the undeniable void in their attack left by Matt Danowski.
“It’s one of those situations where we have one pick in mind that will make the most sense for our organization,” Hilpert said. “That was our intention when we made the trade. We are going to sit down and analyze the situation to make sure it’s right for us, but we’re looking for someone who is going to be a staple in our attack and a face for our organization for many years to come.”
The two NCAA collegiate players topping everyone’s lists are nationally renowned attackmen Rob Pannell of Cornell and Steele Stanwick of the University of Virginia. Pannell happens to hail from Long Island, and would fit the mold for the rebuilding Lizards organization.
The Charlotte Hounds received two of the biggest names in Major League Lacrosse in Wednesday’s trade. As a new team starting from scratch, the Hounds noted the importance of having athletes ready to play at the professional level by April 28 when the 2012 MLL season begins.
“We decided to make a move that would provide us with MLL-ready players for training camp at the start of the season in exchange for a MLL Collegiate Draft pick that could potentially be a big game changer for the League,” said Hounds Director of Sales and Marketing, Wade Leaphart. “Danowski’s ties to the area with his father coaching at Duke University, combined with Berger’s interest in wanting to come down this way also led us to make the decision.”
Several other trades came to fruition during Wednesday’s draft. Dan Burns was the 1st overall selection, drafted by the Rochester Rattlers, and was traded back to Hamilton (along with Rochester’s 2nd and 3rd round picks in next week’s MLL Supplemental Draft) for Kevin Leveille and Hamilton’s 2nd round pick in the Supplemental Draft.
In the third and final trade, the Ohio Machine sent Brian Spallina and their 26th overall selection in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft to the Chesapeake Bayhawks for the 21st overall selection in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft.

Results of the MLL's Supplemental Draft
BOSTON, Mass. (December 14, 2011) - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced Wednesday the MLL Supplemental Draft results following the second of three drafts slated to take place prior to the 2012 season, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. All players were selected from the MLL Player Pool.
Each of the league's eight teams made selections in 18 rounds (144 total picks), beginning with attackman Chazz Woodson, who was the first overall selection by the Ohio Machine. The ensuing first round selections were as follows: The Charlotte Hounds selected defenseman Steve Panarelli as the 2nd overall selection, and the Rochester Rattlers selected attackman Steven Boyle as the 3rd overall selection.
The Long Island Lizards selected defenseman Chris Passavia as the 4th overall selection, the Chesapeake Bayhawks selected midfielder John Orsen as the 5th overall selection, the Denver Outlaws selected defenseman Lee Zink as the 6th overall selection, the Hamilton Nationals selected defenseman Ken Clausen as the 7th overall selection and finally the MLL Champion Boston Cannons selected midfielder Jon Hayes as the 8th overall selection to complete Round 1.

Following the 18 rounds, teams that had not reached 35-players were able to fill out their rosters by making additional selections. The Charlotte Hounds selected two players while the Ohio Machine and Chesapeake Bayhawks each selected one player.
Beginning on Friday, December 16th, teams may begin to claim the remaining players in the MLL Player Pool through the league's waiver process to fill out their 40-man active preseason rosters. After training camp, teams must pare down their active rosters to 25 players.
Up next for the league is the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft, which will take place on Friday, January 13th 2012 in Philadelphia, PA during the US Lacrosse National Convention.

Full Results of the MLL's 2012 Collegiate Draft
Cornell University attackman Rob Pannell was picked with the first overall selection by the Long Island Lizards in the Major League Lacrosse 2012 Collegiate Draft, which was held Friday night at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott. Pannell is the two-time reigning national Attackman of the Year and Ivy League Player of the Year. He scored 42 goals with 47 assists last year.
Five Virginia players were selected in the draft, highlighted by first round selections Steele Stanwick (second overall) and Colin Briggs (sixth overall). The Ohio Machine selected Stanwick and the Denver Outlaws took Briggs. Attackman Chris Bocklet went in the fourth round, 29th overall, to the Charlotte Hounds. Defenseman Matt Lovejoy also went in the fourth round, selected 31st overall by the Hamilton Nationals. Rounding out UVa selections was LSM Chris Clements, selected in the fifth round, 40th overall to the Boston Cannons.
Four members of the Duke team were selected, all among the top nine picks. Redshirt senior Michael Manley was the No. 3 overall pick, with the three other Duke players going at No. 5, No. 8 and No. 9. Manley was selected by the Rochester Rattlers. Senior Larry Costabile was next with the fifth pick by the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Robert Rotanz was selected by the Ohio Machine eighth, and redshirt senior Justin Turri rounded out the choices at ninth to the Charlotte Hounds.
A trio of Syracuse seniors were selected. Defensive midfielder Kevin Drew (Katonah, N.Y.) was selected with the fifth pick in the second round (No. 13 overall) by the Rochester Rattlers. Attackman Tommy Palasek (Rocky Point, N.Y.) went in the fourth round (28th overall) to the Long Island Lizards, and in the fifth round the Ohio Machine tabbed midfielder Bobby Eilers (Simsbury, Conn.) with the 34th overall selection.

MLL Announces 2012 TV Schedule on CBSSN BOSTON, Mass. (February 2, 2012) - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) announced Thursday the television schedule for the 2012 season. The network will air live 14 nationally televised games in addition to all 18 episodes of 'Inside the MLL,' the league's 30-minute magazine show. "We are very excited about this new partnership with CBS Sports Network," said MLL Commissioner David Gross. "We're thrilled to bring 14 live games to fans in addition to our magazine show 'Inside the MLL,' which will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at Major League Lacrosse and its star players." The first nationally televised game of the season will be Friday, June 1 featuring a matchup between the MLL Champion Boston Cannons and the Rochester Rattlers at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. The game will air live at 7:00 PM, ET on CBS Sports Network. CBSSN will feature several high profile games this season, including the Denver Outlaws' annual fireworks game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Wednesday, July 4. The Outlaws will play the expansion Ohio Machine at 9:00 PM, ET. Additionally, CBSSN will televise a number of games featuring two of MLL's 2012 expansion teams, the Charlotte Hounds and the Ohio Machine. In addition to regular season matchups, CBSSN will also air the second Semi-Final Game on Saturday, August 25 during the 2012 MLL Championship Weekend in Boston, Mass. The No. 2 seed will play the No. 3 seed at 4:00 PM, ET. Play by play announcer Dave Ryan and analyst Evan Washburn will call the MLL action. Both Ryan and Washburn were announcers for the Rochester Rattlers last season. Washburn also will be the host of "Inside the MLL," along with features reporter Chantel McCabe. CBS Sports Network is seen in 45 million homes and is available to 98 million households across the country. The Network is available through local cable and video providers and nationally via satellite on DirecTV Channel 613 and DISH Network Channel 152. Scott had so much love for his family and our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this most difficult of times.”

Scott Rose was a great man. He was one of the most giving people I have ever met. He gave because he wanted to help people and he did so without seeking any acknowledgment. I can't tell you how many team dinners he put together for the Freeport boys football team (since the field was right next door to his Rose Fence headquarters). He helped Baldwin, his alma matter as well. Each year he would adopt hundreds of homeless children through our Holiday Magic program. He also helped out Hope House Ministries (Boys home in Port Jefferson) every year. He leaves behind a loving wife, three great kids (all involved in lacrosse), a large group of employees, but maybe most importantly he leaves behind hundreds of friends. Some he knew intimately and some who never met him, but his influence and charity affected their lives. Scott will be missed. RIP.

The 2012 Major League Lacrosse season will feature six games on ESPN2 and 42 regular-season games delivered live on ESPN3 as the 12th season of MLL action is slated to begin Saturday, April 28, with a tripleheader. With the league expansion of Charlotte and Ohio, MLL has a record number of games across ESPN networks. In addition, the MLL All-Star Game and the MLL Championship Weekend will air on ESPN2, ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
The season opens with a tripleheader on ESPN3 at 7 p.m. ET, featuring Rochester at Boston, Denver at Charlotte and Chesapeake at Long Island.
ESPN2, ESPN3 and WatchESPN will also air three regular-season games — Rochester at Long Island on Saturday, July 7, at 7:30 p.m., Charlotte at Denver on Saturday, July 14, at 7 p.m. and Chesapeake at Boston on Saturday, July 28, at 2 p.m.
The 2012 MLL All-Star Game will take place at FAU Stadium in Palm Beach County, Fla., Saturday, June 30, at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2, ESPN3 and WatchESPN. The season will culminate with the MLL Championship Weekend Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 & 26, at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass., airing the first semifinal and the championship game on ESPN2, ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
Play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati and analyst Quint Kessenich will once again serve as the commentator team for the MLL telecasts on ESPN2. Beninati will be returning for his 11th season, while Kessenich will begin his 12th with MLL. A variety of commentators will be utilized for ESPN3 including play-by-play announcers Beninati, Todd Bell, Jason Chandler, Mike Evans, Scott Garceau, Eamon McAnaney, Dave Ryan and Tom Werme, along with analysts Kessenich, Paul Carcaterra, Brian Shanahan, Evan Washburn and Ron Zwerin.
