This guy doesn’t get it. Yes we all know cheating, excuse me holding back your kid in school helps them in sports. You are playing against younger smaller kids. We all know the kids who are holding back in this grade. For the most part they are seeing others pass them by in size, speed and talent in some cases. They have decided to holdback rather than just go to college and be a lower division athlete or heaven forbid just a student!! What you are not understanding is we think you are nuts. No one cares what the UVA holdbacks do. In ahe kids aren’t comparing themselves to them because many kids right now could be in that top D1 category if they reclassed but won’t reclass. Either the kid, parent or both don’t want to do that. They think it’s ethically wrong or sends wrong message to their kid. If you are ok with it which you obviously are then go do it. Buyer beware though, the kids their real age give them no credit for playing down no matter what they accomplish, neither do the parents. You don’t seem like a guy that cares what people think, maybe your kid has thick skin too because chances are he will need it. Word salad...Holding your child backs works, Reclassing works, PG works, Red shirting works... There is a reason that most players are one of these. Time to live in the real world, not the dream world. Has anyone seen that 30 yr old intern with my coffee? Yes, He was with your boss discussing the modern world and your severance pay.

Since most people as you say (which we know it is mainly one person) "are not looking at these things" then take it up with the Board that makes the rules. You can also email all college coaches while you are at it. Otherwise use your college education that you received and smarten up.

Same grammar and sentence structure: First he questions your reading comprehension, then he insults you. Mørøn? Ouch, you got me with that one. Keep that D1 torch burning buddy, maybe some College Coaches will stop looking at all kids 6-12 months older than your tiny phenom.

Re-classing is not cheating.
1) Most prep schools mandate that kids repeat a year. 2) Specialty positions like goalie and FO have limited slots available and its basically mandatory to repeat a year. FOGO's get stashed away on prep school teams routinely for PG yr. I'll bet none of the top 2026 goalies that were recruited are on age. 3) Kids get injured and miss a year. 4) Club directors actively encourage the practice.
Do some parents abuse this? Yes. But overall best players wind up on the college field regardless of age.

This is the JV parent from Manhasset who's son isn't good enough to stand out. Parents, if you don't like the rules, then petition and advocate for a change. Target grievances and recommendations to the appropriate officials who can make a change, not some kid who did what his parents and coaches told him to do. Posting a clip of a kid that you don't know on instagram with their birth date and personally attacking him doesn't get the sport to a better place and it won't help your son.
You're the ones paying for all this lacrosse stuff and the customer is always right.

What is the SINGLE biggest reason why parents hold their kids back? We held our son back (when he was 5) for school reasons (immaturity). Glad we did. But for those who do it at this age, what is the singular biggest reason? I read all these comments, and I just can't wrap my head around it.

It’s not “a little lax”. Prospect days are usually pretty big events, depending on the institution. He will never be noticed with all the Juniors,Seniors, and Transfer kids there. If you want to support the program and help pay the grad assistants’ room and board, Go for it.

Stop blaming others to make your kid feel better. Move on. Playing up , Does that mean your son was held back, but is playing on age with others his same age instead of playing against players a year younger on grade all the while claiming he is playing up ? That is the definition of playing down according to holdback parents.

Stop blaming others to make your kid feel better. Move on. 28 playing for 27? So L.M or N.G? Hope Florida treated you well. Or the sole 29 venom player? Or the new express 29 who was a member of the herd? Either way, don’t matter. But definitely kudos to you, and especially your child, for challenging themself. I say that with sincerity. So if you’re one of the 4 aforementioned parents I can’t help but be slightly bewildered on how you don’t get it yet. Did you ever think that the ridicule and critique toward holdbacks is rooted in the fact that they are not doing what you actually suggested? Did it dawn on you that it’s frustrating knowing that the hard work and good grades are going to be slightly nullified by the people who chose to take easiest path that money can buy?

You are spot on! Most of the kids that play up are also on the older side of their grade as well. They could stay in their grade but play up so good for them!! For the holdbacks you will get exposed in HS or College

My son isn’t good enough to stand out on age parent. Is this an adult? This parent of a kid playing up is sick of people making excuses. Work harder or get better grades. Huh ? Iykyk Apparently you don’t.
