2028 is high school now. Most of your tournaments are now recruiting tournaments without championships. I would expect most 2028 teams to do equal playing time in recruiting tournaments. If championship brackets are involved, then star players most likely play more, but for the most part it should be equal playing time at this point. If it’s not, and your daughter is on the bench, she needs to talk to the coach or she needs to find another team before next year. Which teams do this? I know some teams split time in high school strictly, but I always assumed that was not the norm for the top teams. Do the top MD teams actually sprit time evenly in high school? It was the norm for at least two top 5 teams this past weekend! I know at least one team was definitely out to win as some of their top players never left the field - and it wasn't Coppermine! So you're saying Coppermine's top players left the field? You must be joking. Coppermine's top players were on the field for the majority of the games we saw them play. Coppermine only had 3 or 4 subs this weekend in the games I saw. All girls rotated into the game. Do the math (it's pretty easy math too) that all girls were on the field for the majority of the games. Which is exactly why they have a small roster. Haters wanted to believe it's because they couldn't get girls, but they cut players and sent at least a few decent players to the B team. They have a small roster because they don't want to have to sub. Honestly, knowing how they play, it was the right thing to do. Far better than having girls on the bench who don't get in the game. girls left on their own accord, not because they got cut. The roster is small because they couldn’t get players to come tryout and even held supplemental tryouts. If everything was so great there, why did so many good players leave?

They absolutely did cut girls and, and although they didn't have very many at tryouts, they still had girls who were pretty good with decent potential for the future. They also had several girls on their B team who are now playing on Skywalkers Blue, so could have easily been at the very least a role player for their A team. No one said they had a bunch of top players, only that there were girls who could have rounded out a full roster, but they didn't want a bunch of girls on the bench they would have to play.

I was impressed with Coppermine this weekend. I am not sure what caused the 11-1 loss to eaglestix, but they are certainly still at top team. that shows exactly how much talent they had over the past few years that they could lose so many good players and still be very competitive. I am glad they didn't fold and the girls still there are sticking around because they are still really good team. This is false. Coppermine has never dropped anyone to the B team. Girls who tried out and are decent, not girls who were on the team. This is also not true. Almost all of the B team left and it has a small roster now.

Regardless of why girls left, it seems that it has worked out better than anticipated for all parties. Coppermine did not fall off the map. They still have strong players who will make them a top 6 team. It doesn't matter if they were or weren't able to fill 22 roster spots if they have enough girls to play and be competitive. Those who left also seem to be fairing well. All appear contributing to, and improving their new teams. The reasons and intentions of leaving are irrelevant at this point and all parties seem to be doing just fine. Lets just be happy for continued competition. Having coppermine fall a part wouldn't have helped anyone.

The ownership at Coppermine will literally do anything to keep this team in the top 10, including overplaying girls putting them at higher risk of injury during injury prone years, or pushing solid players to the B team to avoid taking his overplayed stars off the field.

This is a little over the top. One of their best players moms is a coach. If she didn't want her daughter on the field as much for injury reasons, she would pull her out. Your statements are a big stretch. They have always kept their best players on the field. That is one of the things that has kept those same best players from leaving.

You have not seen the new coppermine B team if you think they pushed solid players there. It is also weird that someone seems invested in acting like the small coppermine A team was planned instead of what really happened - both of their 28 teams completely fell apart.

That comment is not over the top and not a stretch at all. There isn’t a lacrosse team of any sort, boys or girls that have two or three middies play entire games. It’s solely based with the intention of winning every game over the importance of anything else. That is coppermines approach with this team and it’s not for anyone else to run their team, but to call it any thing other than that is just ignoring the reality.
They are a very very successful team and will continue to be, one player plays a large role in that. They will have 1 or 2 players HIGHLY recruited. The rest will be role players doing their job to elevate those 1-2 players. They had an opportunity to really do something great a couple years ago and just now have finally found a coach with any sense. What a group they had, and what a terrible leader the club allowed to sink that ship.

What does everyone think were the most notable results from the weekend. My biggest takeaway is that there is a lot of parity in the 2028 age group now. Anyone can beat anyone at any given time.

Lots of parity across the top 10 teams from the results so far. The crowning of Hero's as the lead dog has not been seen as the results have shown they aren't any better than the other MD clubs.

highlight was watching the M&D Shore coach get two yellow cards and then a red card all in the span of 1 min berating the ref with a verbal assault

Agree. Saw a number of games in the past two weekends turn on which team came out of the gate with the highest intensity, versus the "machine"-like wins from Hero's, Coppermine, or Eagle Stix in the past. Accordingly, some teams that would have been considered in the next tier down are getting results (wins and ties). Unforced errors, or a goalie on a hot streak, seem to be having an outsized impact as well. I imagine that the lax will be much cleaner in the summer after rigorous high school seasons and more practices together. That said, the "anything can happen" parity is more fun in my view and keeps the level of effort high.

Many of the teams were playing to win more than showcase, which does often mean subbing less and disproportionately running the ball through certain players. Now that they're in HS, and playing more showcases, everyone should be playing, there is more of a team approach, more assisted goals as the girls mature, etc. Don't be dense.

Takeaways from the Fall season:
--Trend toward more parity--where any top 15 team can beat any other on a given day--has continued;
--Eagle Stix had the most impressive Fall campaign, with only one result that was out of place, a four goal loss to Jesters in their first tourney. Otherwise, they looked strong against the best teams and handed Coppermine their most lopsided loss in years.
--Hero's, M&D, and Coppermine all had similar Fall results--looking very strong in a few games, businesslike in others, and a couple of duds for each. Pretty even matchup if they played each other tomorrow, although Hero's still looks most formidable in terms of an eye test.
--MDU East outperformed expectations and was consistently competitive.
--Crush had the most up and down Fall season. They beat Hero's and Coppermine on the same day, and lost to Sky Walkers the next, for example.
--Most of the top 10 were aided in the rankings by playing several teams that were clearly a tier down and enjoying large goal differentials in a small sample size. On the other end, a team like LI Jesters, that had some impressive games (beat M&D and had 2 1-goal losses to Hero's), played the toughest overall schedule, but had a negative goal differential and dropped all the way to 17.

ES lost to Aces not Jesters just heads up.

Great post. I agree with everything here. For those that attended the Level 9 tournament, it was nice to see some other teams playing well and competing with the mid-atlantic teams. YJ, Mass Elite, Monster and LXC looked tough. M&D had some battles with LXC and Mass Elite. Went up big on LXC who battled back to tie it, then showed some toughness to respond with the winning goal and they lost a close one with Mass Elite who ended up winning the gold division. Definitely more parity amongst the top 10 teams. This spring should be great!

Was curious what game or games MD United outperformed in this Fall?
