JB is actually a good coach and I'll give him kudos because he is not a parent coaching his kid or coaching a different age group at the club where his kid(s) play. But he lets his personal ideas of who he wants succeeding on the field cloud who is actually producing and it leads to frustration and hard feelings. It's a trap that a lot of coaches fall into. If the sun shines on your kid it's great and you love that coach. But the amount of damage done to girls' careers when a coach deems them not worthy or not good enough is devastating. JB falls in that category. That's part of the reputation That M&D Black 2024 team could have been one of the best ever, but several strong players left before 8th grade because of this very reason. Where exactly did those strong players go? And not sure the team got much worse as I just looked up their Sophomore year numbers and looks like they only lost 1 game that entire year to Heroes. And majority of M&D24 best players were from out of state and just flew in for games. They came for the M&D name and not JB. Anyone know why JB left MV? JB was asked to leave. It wasn't his choice. That was obvious to everyone except JB. JB is a good coach. HC just using him as a scapegoat

I thought JB was a well respected coach in the area and am seeing a lot of negativity on here lately. Is this just a few bitter people or I wrong about being well respected?

Having a really good team that's only going to be more competitive in the next few years?

I thought JB was a well respected coach in the area and am seeing a lot of negativity on here lately. Is this just a few bitter people or I wrong about being well respected? JB has a great lacrosse mind and great connections. He tends to pick favorites amongst the girls (based on who he thinks will get the farthest strictly on lax skills and sometimes writing off girls too early) so the positive vs negative JB posts probably come from wherever their daughter fit on that scale

JB knows the game but leverages his favorites vs playing team ball. It works most of the time but his micromanagement is not for everyone.

JB is far from well respected except from his favorites. When you have been fired from many programs... it's not the programs.

My daughter played for him and learned a ton, grew as a player and a person. Great lacrosse mind and also cares about his players.

JB has been let go from a few HS programs he didn’t get invited back to coach at M&D. Is now on his 3rd Coppermine team in 2 years. And applied for a number of jobs but never got hired. Gotta be something up

Gotta be something up What is up is you have no idea what you are talking about. He left M&D to go to Coppermine. He still coaches 2 of those Coppermine teams. He was only a temporary coach for the third Coppermine team.

Why don’t you all let these coaches be and stop ripping on them. They give up their time to pretty much volunteer to coach kids. JB is a good guy but probably downer live up to what some of you fool parents want or expect.

The Coach and players are the targets. Many Coaches make it real easy to blame them. See above.

JB is a good guy but probably downer live up to what some of you fool parents want or expect. Agreed. JB shouldn’t take the hit because some parents of his former players don’t like the playing time their kids got. Based on his success with the 24 m&d team, maybe he was right based on playing time. As for BR, the general visceral reaction,I believe, comes from the visible way he treats others outside of his programs. Cursing out refs, running onto the field, cursing out opposing players, continuing to have social media wars with teenage girls, and of course the coaching to flop doesn’t go unnoticed either.

Westminster (fired) Manchester Valley, now fired at Maryvale. I am sure I am missing some. JB is his own worst enemy. His history shows he will self destruct at Coppermine as well.

I totally believe you witnessed BR do all these things including being at his practices to watch him coach girls to flop. You should really stop spewing this nonsense.

As for witnessing, hope this helps you Yes to cursing out refs on multiple occasions including being ejected from a game, yes to calling out minor infractions like goalie pads or eye black to have kids unable to play, yes to running onto the field to demand cards to specific players, no to seeing him curse out players but heard it directly from people who have, yes to seeing the posts to continue a social media battle with a teenage girl, and no to the coaching to flop at practice but yes to seeing him not correcting girls at games when players clearly were diving(sometimes without any contact) where even a ref shrugged his shoulders trying to figure out what the girl did. Keep drinking the juice at MaryVale and maybe your kid will get to play at Maryland.

She says it best - he’s the kind of coach you want to play for but he’s a coach you detest as an opponent.

BR is a good coach and a fair coach- he was to my daughter, who had no political pull/help to being on his team, and he was fair when pointing out the things she needed to work on. In the end, he helped her grow into the player she is today, post-HS. However, he's fair to a fault with his players, and if your freshman kid was promised PT and come spring, they're not ready compared to a sophomore or junior who came through JV, then your freshman is going to play JV, and that's all there is to it-- it's just that some freshmen parents don't appreciate how much their kids-- and all kids- grow through the 4 years.

High school coaches are meant to inspire, not intimidate. This kind of conduct is unacceptable and tarnishes the role of a coach. Being tough shouldn’t mean you need to do the things he does
