Any matchups that folks are looking forward to this weekend? Capital vs M&D Black Crush v Yellow Jackets should be pretty good I think people are interested in seeing everyone and how their new additions or subtractions effect the teams performance compared to last year. We have assumptions about which teams upgraded in talent, but will those upgrades positively effect the team's performance? Coppermine probably had the biggest turnover, so they will pique a lot of people's interest. I don't predict any blow-outs. Now that we are in the High School years and talent from B teams has moved up and been consolidated, talent from A teams has shuffled around, I don't think the discrepancies exist that would create 8-10 point goal differences.

I agree, definitely interested to see how the teams have changed. Seems like this year there was more shuffling than previous years across the board. Capital is on the scene, Coppermine & M&D had a lot of change on their rosters, Heros only added 2 people but those they added will expect to play a significant role. Don't know much about Skywalkers but did hear in previous scrimmages they looked strong and added at least one difference maker. Crush and MDU I think stayed fairly consistent. Another change this year is that they're in high school and certain clubs have policies in place that say everyone should get about half a game (at least in showcases, which most tournaments are now). I know this is true for M&D, Capital, I think Heros, and maybe others. This could impact teams who haven't historically played all.

Why Capitol vs M&D Black? Kind of a random pick.

Why Capitol vs M&D Black? Kind of a random pick. I believe M&D Black got stronger with their pickups and Capital is new group of players pulled together and have been bragging about how the are already so good. Interested to see how M&D and Capital look this season.

Most of their parents are unhinged so nothing rational comes from it.

Some good weather and good lacrosse this weekend. Looks like Hero’s, M&D, Crush and Coppermine will remain at the top. It would have been nice if MDU East was at one of the tournaments to see where they fit in. And they didn’t play YJ Maget even though they were at the same tournament, so they are still an unknown as well.

Some reactions to the first two tourneys: Eagle Stix impressed.
And despite their dud versus Eagle Stix, Coppermine looked like they aren't going anywhere.
M&D is improved and played some very good games.
Hero's went undefeated as expected, but didn't play the toughest schedule and avoided Eagle Stix. Hero's will remain the pregame favorite against pretty much anybody, but has a habit of letting lesser teams stay close (see eg. Jesters (twice over the weekend) and Liberty).

Aces handed ES pretty easily but then was crushed by M&D and I have no idea how ES dominated Coppermine that much. Jesters lost to all of these top teams basically by a goal so I think they have improved. Crush was beaten easily by M&D for the first time in while and lost to YJ 7-4 while beating MDU 7-5. YJ and MDU did play on Saturday and tied 4-4. SW had a very bumpy first day.

These tournament directors need to do something about some of these refs. I know there's so many games being played that refs are in demand but a few on both days at Chesapeake were awful. And I don't mean making bad calls or too many calls awful. I mean not knowing the most basic fundamental rules of girls lacrosse. It was so bad. One guy in particular reffed about 7 games on both saturday and sunday. One ref took the opportunity to argue with the parents thinking it was cute and funny all while running minutes off the time clock. It.s terrible. A few of these refs should not be asked back they're so atrocious.

Hero’s does not look like the favorite, not sure how that was seen. Narrow margin wins and not a hard schedule. A few of the top teams appear to have improved and hero’s may not be better with the new additions.

I know one top 5 team we played had their best players sit for half the game due to this.

Just noting that Hero's was the #2 team last year, added several very talented players, and are the only undefeated top team from MD so far. Your point that the new additions are not guaranteed to help them improve is acknowledged (see eg Coppermine summer of '23 versus Coppermine summer of '24last year versus the year before).

2028 is high school now. Most of your tournaments are now recruiting tournaments without championships. I would expect most 2028 teams to do equal playing time in recruiting tournaments. If championship brackets are involved, then star players most likely play more, but for the most part it should be equal playing time at this point. If it’s not, and your daughter is on the bench, she needs to talk to the coach or she needs to find another team before next year.

"Star" players will have the opportunity to separate themselves at showcases like BIC or "All Star" teams such as American Select. It's the right approach and it's the standard in HS years at most of the clubs like Heros, MND, Capital, and Skywalkers. I have to assume that Crush will go this route based on the way they've been coached historically. Who knows about Coppermine, but perhaps their roster is intentionally incredibly small to avoid having to take best players off the field/sub a lot. PT may still be a little more liberal seeing as we're still outside recruiting years and the best players may still get the most minutes, but all players should be seeing the field for about half the game at a showcase. If you're team isn't moving towards this and you are sitting the bench, you may want to assess your options. Your DD needs to be seen in games next year.

The point is that Hero's is a top 5 team, no doubt, however to say they are the clear favorite wasn't seen from this weekend.

Having looked at the scores from the 3 tournaments where top teams played, and watching my DD play many of those teams, I don't think there are any more "clear" favorites. Players and teams have improved from all over the country and, as others have said, many teams move towards a play to showcase rather than play only to win mentality in HS years. I just think you're going to see all these teams trade wins and losses and it's not at all a big deal for a team to tie or lose to a team they would beat more times than not. Which, ultimately, makes things a lot more fun IMO.

To be fair they don't really have the roster size to worry about equal playing time.

Which teams do this? I know some teams split time in high school strictly, but I always assumed that was not the norm for the top teams. Do the top MD teams actually sprit time evenly in high school? It was the norm for at least two top 5 teams this past weekend! I know at least one team was definitely out to win as some of their top players never left the field - and it wasn't Coppermine! So you're saying Coppermine's top players left the field? You must be joking. Coppermine's top players were on the field for the majority of the games we saw them play. Coppermine only had 3 or 4 subs this weekend in the games I saw. All girls rotated into the game. Do the math (it's pretty easy math too) that all girls were on the field for the majority of the games.

Haters wanted to believe it's because they couldn't get girls, but they cut players and sent at least a few decent players to the B team. They have a small roster because they don't want to have to sub. Honestly, knowing how they play, it was the right thing to do. Far better than having girls on the bench who don't get in the game.

I was impressed with Coppermine this weekend. I am not sure what caused the 11-1 loss to eaglestix, but they are certainly still at top team. that shows exactly how much talent they had over the past few years that they could lose so many good players and still be very competitive. I am glad they didn't fold and the girls still there are sticking around because they are still really good team.

Girls who tried out and are decent, not girls who were on the team.
