Not a very intelligent post If you don’t think most of the nassau suffolk teams are picked before tryouts I can sell you a bridge . There are some very good players that deserve to be on there that did make it. No argument there. But many are selected not on merit but who has the high school lax connections or club coach connections. Also don’t forget the legacy lacrosse towns that demand their players be represented. GC, Syosset, CSH to name a few…How do players who are injured or do not attend the tryout make the roster. Figure that out.

Anyone that believes lacrosse is a meritocracy is fool. Its all about connections and being on the inside. Whether it is the right town, club or HS you need to be inside the circle to progress through showcases, try outs and recruiting. Yes, some rare outside the circle make it in based on merit but its about connections. If your club doesnt have them dont even bother showing up. Shoot we went to one tryout for the Nike team and the registration tent was a club team.....guess what, their players all made the team. Is what it is. Make friend and advocate or dont complain because this is the way it works.

Not all the 2025's were deserving, that's a fact. And before you pop off about kids not being good enough, mine did make it. From what I saw not everyone on that team was deserving based on their play, especially at midfield

Of course any dad or mom is going to say the teams were preordained if his/her son didn't make it. Most sports parents lack self-awareness.

There was a LOT of talent on display during the 2025 game. Maybe your son just had a rough day at tryouts?

I’ve been doing the club lax thing for 20 years. I’ve had up close and personal connections with influential people. Yes, my son is on one of the preferred teams that the previous poster mentions. Yes, he’s committed to a big time lacrosse program and phenomenal school at an unbelievable deal. Yes, it’s political in a huge way. It’s not at all fair. None of it. Nothing. Lacrosse has to be the most flawed sport in existence. Always been that way. If you aren’t part of the good ole boy network, you are on the outside looking in. But guess what? Get use to it. Lacrosse is a microcosm of life. Nothing is “fair”. The sooner your kid realizes that, the better off he will be. Moral of the story. Set goals. Work your [Censored] off. Do it the right way. No short cuts. Take advantages of opportunities as they present themselves, and everything will work out in the end.

Except for the self-aggrandizing by proxy part of the post, hes not wrong. Lax is an old boys network and thats how most (not all) get into the preferred pathways of whatever school, club, or college they have gotten into or played for. This holds true for the top 10% of the sport. This shows there is a huge equity issue in this sport which means it will always be a niche sport for those that can afford it.

I will disagree that the harder your work in life, the further you can go and you dont need the old boys network even though it helps. Lacrosse, you can work your [Censored] off and not get anywhere so I dont think lacrosse is a metaphor for life.

The top 10% of lacrosse players are far and away better than the bottom 90%. You can’t tell me O’Neill wasn’t head and shoulders above the rest. Sorry, it’s plainly right in front of you. If you can’t post facts or names then it’s pure silliness and petty jealousy.

Sure you can name 1 name and you can also say Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky as other shining examples. But you are missing the point. Besides the anecdotal elite athlete like O'Neill, what I am saying is the much of the top 10% in the sport has benefited from connections and money. Are they great athletes? Sure, but many of them (O'Neill as a good exception) arent head and shoulders above the next 10-30% who may not have had opportunities such as being connected to a top club, had the ability to reclass, had the ability to PG, travel around the country and stay in hotels, buy a new stick immediately when one breaks, go to a prep school, have a parent take off work just to drive them somewhere because they are working 3 jobs, etc etc, many of whom dropped the sport because of equity issues. Has nothing to do with jealousy. Can't you see that there is an access opportunity for much of the country and have it be a simple 1st world injustice without having to resort to cliched saying such as "oh you are just jealous"?

Ill say it again, lacrosse is a very small old boys network, comparatively to other sports. It will remain a niche sport as it definitely is not an equal opportunity sport. Its a great sport but lets not pretend that money and connections are not the key to high level access

If you are an elite player, a club will find you, promote you, and allow you to reach your potential. The problem lies when sorting the next tier of players. That is where connections and networks overwhelm any meritocracy. High school and college coaches don't care who the bottom 10 -15 kids (of 45-50) are because they don't impact their W/L record. They can use those spots as favors for whatever reason they choose.

The guy who knows nothing, can’t back it up with any facts, but needs to write something to get attention. Base your statement on just one actual verified fact.

Saw it today with a certain NB team. Selector was picking all his pals kids were he can get work favors and picked younger kids who aren’t good. Lax needs more meritocracy.

They should do something like Nassau Vs. Suffolk to keep the game competitive, the older boys were messing around and not really trying. Also should have a second game for that price.

For the money it cost per player, one game is a joke. It should be a one day tournament.

Exciting day at the NLI today. So far, undefeated teams are:

Northport
Chaminade
Marin Catholic
West Islip (in a horrible bracket)
Bayport
Garden City (still one game to play)

Who is going to make it to the championship?

Did anyone, including Pequa parents, think the finals would be chaminade vs massapequa?

Watched a bit of one of the pequa games. Offense seemed a little weak and inconsistent but their defense was great with an outstanding pole. My guess is that teams underestimated them along with the heat playing to their advantage.

Don’t forget to mention both Mhs varsity coaches were not there either days The JV coach who is a very good coach coached and did a great job with the team …

I don’t think any team can measure up to SWR and Bayport, Definitely no public’s. Not even St A’s and Chaminade, are better on paper.

St A's and Chaminade would love to play SWR or Bayport set it up. Only Public that has the stones is Manhasset and they wont play St A's anymore.

No one has as much top tier 2024 talent. St A’s and Flyers have talent, obviously, but those two teams have the most. But the Catholics have a lot more depth than either.

All the good 25's and 26's now, the 25's are a weak class top to bottom that are overhyped going into this summer and didn't show up.

Catholic 2024 talent is deep just look and the committed list of kids that haven't played because there part of the programs. There Practice are better then lost in the LI Championship
