It is very difficult to determine top player -is it always a middie , GK or is a defender on great team that barely plays D all game the best. It shakes out in college -most super stars don't make it past fall ball unless they are OK with riding the bench. Very few freshman at MD, UNC, BC will see the field.

As a GK parent, if you have a great team, you’re not seeing many shots… but on the flip side you’re getting great exposure bc of that team. Usually have to go down to maryland (prepared as heck) to face some shots. Wonder if sometimes better off being on a B team. Curios if any other GK parents on the board who could share their experience.

Always getting beat by powerhouses and she literally has no power to go over the line and help score. So we sat at D for a few long years while she sharpened her teeth. Now she is one of the only ones on her team to be committed to a T20 team. It all works out in the end. Some of the top teams who we considered moving to- their D never gets to sharpen their skills. Those girls are uncommitted.

Goalies should be going to camps with lots of game play. Play the commits and get lots of saves vs great players.

Goalies should be going to camps with lots of game play. Play the commits and get lots of saves vs great players. Issue for goalies is that when they are on a weaker teams playing weaker competition the shots, even if there are more, are weak shots and not compatible to what those goalies would be seeing in college. A goalie on a top tier team will still see shots because they are playing other top tier teams. Look at the AU pro games goalies saw crazy amounts of shots and those are the top female players. This goes for players too. You need to be on the better teams to get more exposure. It doesn’t mean you need to be a top 10 team, but you certainly can’t be a bottom of the barrel team and hope someone shows up to see you. The recruiting for you if you’re on those weaker teams will be on you to take initiative instead of your team itself.

I’m sure you are one of the delusional parents who knock the rankings when your daughter is not recognized. The actual facts prove that the large majority of IL Young Gun Seniors ( top 30 & top 40 IL had changed the numbers a few times) go on to the most competitive college Programs (many wold say the best programs Carolina, Maryland, BC, Northwestern, Syracuse, Princeton, Virginia, Florida, Penn, ND, PSU, Loyola, USC, Stanford) and have very good college careers and by the way those are excellent schools as well. Stony Brook and JMU are two of the best programs but do not get many of those ranked players. Denver has been making a case for themselves to be considered a consistent Top 20 program as well not sure how many ranked players they get. The coaches at the best college programs seem to identify the same players as Inside Lacrosse so I will go with their assessment and evaluation. Haters gonna detest, and bash and try to diminish the rankings every year but all of the attempts to tear down will not elevate their daughters ability in the eyes of college coaches or anyone else for that matter. BTW , no koolAid…. Just an observation of reality and how the players have performed during their college careers . Congratulations to all who are recognized.

At the top academic schools it’s not Lacrosse & athletic ability are not enough, the student athlete must also have exceptional academic credentials. Northwestern is probably the only top tier academic school where the coach can bring in whoever she wants but it is my understanding that she does not like to bring in players who have not demonstrated that they work hard in the classroom. It doesn’t help the student or the program if the athlete can’t keep up in the classroom. Princeton, Stanford, Penn, Hopkins do not have the same latitude with admissions as NU.

Below is how the Inside Lacrosse 2015 Young Gun Senior Girls did in college. This is the HS Graduating Class of 2016 I choose this class because they have just finished their college careers. Inside Lacrosse only ranked 30 players in the class of 2016. There were at least 24 Players became starters and or a regular player who played in every game, generally one of the 13 - 15 players who play every game. 14 All-Conference 11 All-Americans 14 Team Captains 3 or 4 who never developed into a regular and played in a reserve role 2 or 3 season / career ending injuries. The players who are ranked in general, do not quit, they go to the best college programs and have very good college careers.

I see 16 who started at perennial top 15-20 programs and some of those players did so in spite of a season ending injury in their career. A handful started at programs not as highly ranked and a couple transferred to those schools before seeing much playing time. I see at least 12 on the watch list who started at top programs and had very notable careers. These lists correctly identify a lot of eventual top college players, but they are a snapshot in time and high school is not college.

Agreed all players listed are very talented as are many players who didn't make the list. I think where alot of the debate comes in is people arguing over past performance versus college potential. I've noticed that IL tends to reward players with great physical attributes who have a ton of upsided much more than players who dominated high-level club but may be a bit smaller or slower.

Slower yes. Smaller no, I don't think size is a major factor unless you are talking very small and frail. Speed and overall athleticism is probably differentiator, that's why there are so many delusional parents, they don't understand that in order to compete at the highest level the player has to be able to move, they need to be able to keep up with the pace of play. When a coach looks at two players with similar lacrosse skill and IQ they will go with the more athletic/faster/quicker athlete more times than not.

The reality is that IL does a very good job. To piggy back a couple of previous posts, here is how the 2015 Top 30 and Watch List did in college. 26 colleges were represented. 16 - 17 were traditional Top 20 Programs. 6 - 7 were programs that are in the next tier, they are very competitive and Top 20 from time to time. Harvard, Brown, Vanderbilt & Louisville have not been top 20 recently I believe. 48 became "regulars/starters" they play in every game. 24 earned All-Conference. 16 earned All-American. 23 named Captain. 7-8 played a reserve role. 5-6 may have had career ending injuries. Obviously the numbers may be off by 1 or 2 but you get the idea. Good Job Inside Lacrosse and Congratulations to the players.

When will colleges choose when their summer camps will take place (and when will they post that info)? Will colleges have any camps anytime between February and May or does that not happen because it's their college season?

What do you mean by overvalue? Every girl on that list whether 5’9” or 5’4” was chosen because they dominated on the summer circuit as well as the invite events they attended. Who did they miss? Your daughter? Here we go again!

[quote=Anonymous]It is very difficult to determine top player -is it always a middie , GK or is a defender on great team that barely plays D all game the best. It shakes out in college -most super stars don't make it past fall ball unless they are OK with riding the bench. Very few freshman at MD, UNC, BC will see the field. The vast majority of the players ranked in the Top 30 - 40 go to the Top 10 to 15 programs in the country and most of them get on the field right away. You obviously have not been around the game long. Hope the koolaid tastes good. More nonsense, obviously from someone who knows very little. I meant more that IL tends to overvalue 5-9 plus girls, especially at attack. When i think of the 2 or 3 girls who didn't make this list that I thought should , they are all undersized attackers and middies who dominated at UA/American Select. Honestly, it never ends…. Overvalued 5’ 9” plus girls… So now you believe that evaluators are basing their rankings on the size of the player? Why does it always have to be something other than ability? Politics, connections, $$$, club affiliation, size etc… How about the people at Inside Lacrosse just believe these are the best players after watching the players play.

I think a lot of these comments come from disgruntled YJ ‘23 players. Most toxic rivalry. Only YJ team not #1 on LI, and never beat TG. Interesting that both teams had two players in top 20. Jesters had one who was at traditional TG player, but after she left TG got a #1 ranking. She definitely elevated Jesters and helped some of those girls get recruited. Legacy also has a few very good girls. I’m sure many of them will make the 4 star list

There are many parents who simply can not honestly assess their daughters ability or athleticism. It doesn’t matter what Club their daughter plays for YJ, TG, Elevate, Liberty, Jesters, Legacy etc… if their daughter is on the “A” team many believe they are a top tier player. The reality is most players, even the ones on the “A” teams are not going to be recognized by Inside Lacrosse or by College Coaches at high level programs. That doesn’t mean that they are not good players or that they will not get recruited it just is what it is.

It’s also important to recognize that the ultimate prize is being recruited to a great program. A dream school your daughter would most likely not haven’t gotten into without lacrosse. That is the only list that really matters!

What do you mean by overvalue? Every girl on that list whether 5’9” or 5’4” was chosen because they dominated on the summer circuit as well as the invite events they attended. Who did they miss? Your daughter? Here we go again! Sorry -Not completely true. Regardless of size of what ever else you are talking about. One or a few didnt and don’t dominate. Head scratchers.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Sounds like sour grapes. All the attackers mentioned were the top scorers/ performers throughout the season. Fact

I believe we are in a similar circumstance. I assume she was a middie and probably plays middie on HS/other team(s).
May I ask, what position did your daughter sign up/try out for at the college camps and select regional teams/showcases?.

Not sure why everyone puts so much emphasis on AU/UA /AS and other regional select events. In our experience, some and in some circumstances many of the best kids do not make these teams. Some that make these teams ultimately decline playing in them as well for various reasons. The evaluators and coaches all have different agendas and mouths to feed. Until they consistently prove they have an unbiased evaluation and selection process they can't be considered best of the best and used as a baseline barometer of top talent. They need to pay evaluators that have no skin in the game instead of a melting pot of club & school coaches.

They need to pay evaluators that have no skin in the game instead of a melting pot of club & school coaches. They do it every year , it’s called the recruiting process and the college coaches are the evaluators. The coaches at the best college coaches consistently identify the best players and the vast majority of the best players end up choosing to go to the programs that consistently finish the season ranked in the Top 10 - 20. It really is a very simple process…. Watch players compete, identify the players you believe to be the best, recruit & make offers to those players, hopefully sign those players and repeat the process the following year Not very difficult to understand.

I love the sour grapes about UA and AS don't mean anything, but the kicker is the quote "in our expierence". WOW, the post must be from a top college coach, hahahaha. This parent (or amazing D1 coach) must think there are secret meetings held around the country to choose what girls should be named to these all-star teams without considering their exceptional talent from tons of hard work and determination. I guess it costs the parents at least $80,000 in cash sent to a secret address to "make these teams". Once these secret lists of girls are assembled and made public via lets say an Under Armour all-american team, the girls magically become the top lacrosse players in the country simply by being put on an all-american list. The conspiracy continues as all the top women's lacrosse programs in the country ignore the countless tournament games and film they review to find the best talent in the country. I guess we should believe they only pick the girls written on the all-american lists without using their own judgement, it's not like their jobs depend on it. The scam continues via the NCAA only allowing teams with these "chosen ones" into the championship tournament. The real amazing part is how many of these chosen ones end up on the winning chamionship teams just from a secret conspiracy at the high school ranks.
