Lacrosse is a MAJOR help for a service academy or an IVY. Think 1250 SAT 89-90 average and going to Harvard or Yale. Anyone else needs 1450+ and 98. Same thing with service academies...Getting into Navy (in particular) or West Point (to a lesser extent) without a sport is as hard as getting into a top Ivy. Kids with 85 averages going to service academy prep school and then onto an academy. They are doing an extra year and would not pass the laugh test without lacrosse. So keep practicing boys.....It helps!!! You fail to mention that you must be a top 10 recruit at your position in the country. Also, do you need to be a holdback? How many top recruits in each position in the country are “on age”? None are on age.

The thread said Top LI HS with D1 commitments. Did not see the specific '23 reference. There are 3 other CSH private school kids committed (st. A's 2 and Taft) and each is a hold back... so yes, many top '23 commits are hold backs, even on li.

Anybody who has a kid that was not good enough for a coach to push through the admission process when his grades were not good enough to get into a particular college will never understand and will never agree with you that kids can have significantly lower grades and still get into great schools with lacrosse helping them. Simply put , the better the player the less grades matter. The less talent the player has the more grades matter. Parents of the less talented recruits will not understand this and will argue that grades matter. Grades do matter to a certain extent but the above quote is accurate.

Huntington? talk about outlier. Congrats on your two commits...but no one outside of the dad that wrote this would include them in a list of TOP LI HS's (be it lax or academics)...

For the 2022 recruiting class, Ivy League and NESCAC schools gave out offers without even looking at standardized test scores. Since their member schools were all test optional last year.

Most top athletes don’t have those grades. In fact only about a half of a percent of the entire country have those grades. Of course the Ivy leagues and top schools have to lower their standards for athletes including lacrosse players.

White males with perfect SAT / ACT scores don't get into Ivy League schools. They don't into Georgetown, UVA, and USC! But a white male that's a stand out lax recruit...that's a different story. This is a fact. Yale has a side door for average students that excel at lacrosse. Fact.

You are correct. My son received a perfect score on his SAT and has a 4.5 GPA. Schools are still telling him it will be unlikely he gets in.

Here's an excerpt from Stanford Magazine July/August 1999. "Stanford is the school of choice for the scholar-athlete. In the four classes entering the University from 1994 to 1997, the average freshman male athlete had logged a 3.73 high school GPA and a 1,215 SAT score, according to NCAA statistics. Female freshman athletes during the same period had a 3.87 GPA and a 1,151 SAT score. By comparison, the averages for all Division 1 schools combined were 2.97 and 997 for males and 3.29 and 1,007 for females. At Duke University, another school known for academics as well as athletics, incoming freshman male athletes had a 3.46 GPA and an SAT of 1,103, while females had a 3.51 grade-point and a 1,090 test score." The national average SAT score in 1997 was 1016. Maybe things have changed in 20 years or maybe not. https://stanfordmag.org/contents/how-to-build-a-dynasty

All you have to do is some research. There are plenty of admissions info on the web. Look at the scatter plots for acceptances to Ivy leagues. A few students get acceptances that are way outside of the parameters for a typical acceptance. These are typically athletes that are game changers for their sports.

The top recruits do not need the same grades as the lower recruits and recruited athletes do not need the same grades / test scores as the general student population. Recruited athletes need to have very good grades at all of the Ivy’s, they just do not need to be as good as regular students.

The lesser athlete can get by with slightly lower grades than a non athlete. In the end they all need good grades.

These are not "Facts". These are your erroneous statements. There are in fact white males with perfect SAT /ACT scores that have gotten into and rejected from Ivy schools. There is no "side door" at Yale. There is a different consideration given to athletes that will contribute to the University that is slightly below the median of the accepted applicants as a whole. THOSE ARE FACTS.

I think that the OP’s point was that in order to accepted into a top academic school through the conventional route, you need to have superlative academic credentials. Even then, they are all considered reaches. If you are an athletic prospect and the coach of the same school is interested in you as a player, the academic requirements required by the admissions office are considerably less stringent.

We know a recruit who committed to an Ivy school 2 years ago with a 1400 SAT score when the average score for that school is over 1500. Is that considereble? Stanford and Duke are reputed to have even more lenient academic admission standards than the Ivy’s. Maybe 1250-1300 range?

If you are a top 50 HS player in your graduate year D1 coaches can get kids accepted with significantly lower gpa and scores than the average accepted student. I know this as fact. Not slightly at all. Significantly.

You don't have to be top 50, you just have to get recruited by the school. Many recruited players aren't top 50.

And now with many of these schools test optional, many of the athletes won't take the tests at all unless they are going to do really well at it. Not accurate remove the word "considerably", replace it with slightly. Considerable is a subjective term. We know a recruit who committed to an Ivy school 2 years ago with a 1400 SAT score when the average score for that school is over 1500. Is that considereble? Stanford and Duke are reputed to have even more lenient academic admission standards than the Ivy’s. Maybe 1250-1300 range?
