What really went wrong? Just a guess... the other teams have more talent... Not familiar with the situation. Did they have a lot of injuries? Any players get suspended? Covid related issues? If not, maybe they just don’t have the same amount of talent that they have had in the past.

How is Mt. Sinai 1st seed, when they were beat by SWR..? It's gotta be strength of schedule calculated in the RPI. Who has more lower ranked teams on their schedule? Maybe their lowest ranked team is one step up from SWR lowest ranked team. The RPI is BS, it starts from the beginning, before they play, when they know nothing and for this year they knew less. SWR not the only team that got short changed. But really how does a non-league/class loss factor into a pure league/class playoff? Had Bay Shore beaten Ward Melville they would have owned the best record in A @ 13-1 and still had no shot at #1. At 12-2, they get ranked 5th and beat the 2nd and 3rd place teams. Shouldnt have been lower than 3, belonged at 2. RPI needs to be revamped. Cant be strength of schedule. Bay Shore still had the loss to Huntington. If if if

The recording and reporting of stats has reached a ridiculous level. I track my sons stats (goalie) for him to review shot location etc and review against game film. When he sees what other teams goalie are getting credit for its amazing. For those who say it doesn't matter there are school and county awards at stake. It didnt just get there been there for close to 10 years I remember watching the Suffolk C Championship in 2019 between Mt. Sinai and SWR. The Mt. Sinai freshman attackman was locked down the whole game but managed to get an assist. I was watching because of all the hubbub about the kid and wanted to see for myself. As it turns out, I did see for myself. Newsday had him for 4 assists. I had him at one. The books are cooked and I've seen it with my own eyes.

Anyone else?

How does a once proud program, that is competitive year in, year out become a 7 lose team and it could easily be 8 or 9 loses. What really went wrong?
Its very simple they lose 95% of the faceoffs, they play D most of the game. They dont get a lot of touches on Offense. They lost one starter this year mid season otherwise they are full strength. They lost four games by 1 goal, are they the powerhouse of the past no but all you dads running your mouths about how great your team is the 1 and 2 seed beat them by 1 goal. Lets see what happens in the playoffs.

I'd rather be Farmingdale and have a chance for revenge against the Hype Machine (Port) than be Blonde Ambition (Syosset) and have to play Pequa in the semifinals. Just sayin'

5 games were lost by 1 goal. Blame it on lack of experience or coaching or both. Not having a fogo hurts too. Offense is lacking and shooting poor. Same couple of kids are only ones that dodge so predictable. Offense doesn’t push and settles the ball so no easy goals. On defense not bad but kids get beat and yet play. Team defense was good but getting more exposed game after game and slides have been late or nonexistent. Overall team very young and will be competitive next yr but there definitely is some favoring of sophs at all positions that not saying shouldn’t be playing but maybe not playing as much. With the close losses maybe they can turn it around for playoffs but who knows.

Once you realize and accept team makeup is not determined by which kids are the best players, but rather many other outside influences you will come to understand "who" and why that "who" is on the field at any given time. That said I agree with your statement.

Not specific to Massapequa, but the situation of having HS coaches also being coaches/directors/owners of club teams is a big problem. People claim favoritism with TB, S2S, Igloo, LIE and probably others. On the other hand, is it fair to tell coaches who do not make a lot of money coaching that they can't supplement their income through club teams? What if the rule becomes HS coaches can continue to coach, own, etc. club teams but they can't have kids who they will coach in HS in their clubs? This will prevent the favoritism issues (which are real) and allow coaches to supplement their incomes. And we all know there are plenty of club options for the kids.

Grandfather in those kids. Start with younger kids. Rule is if HS coach is a club coach/owner, the club can't take kids from that HS. Problem solved.

If this is really about club owners hiring good HS coaches for coaching (rather than to pull kids from their towns who feel pressure to join the club of their HS coach so they see the field in HS), this solution should work. And if this is really about HS coaches being about to coach and supplement their incomes (rather than getting hired because the owners want them so they can pull kids from their towns who feel pressure to join), this should work. Of course it will never happen tho. Lol.

The club owners, who also coach are making out very well for themselves. It's embarrassing watching, after a game parents kiss up to another adult (coach) whose kid plays on the coaches club team.

Pequa coach is following the catholic school business model. Just on a smaller level. Director of a club that Massapequa kids are expected to play for.

Watching the geico HS national tourney, there’s no team from LI that could compete with these guys. Maybe St Anthony’s last year with O’Neill, Deneza and Naso and I say that only because they played/started as freshman at Duke
And for all you parents wondering why you kid may not be committed, watch this game and ask your self can your kid do that. 1) it is "why your kid", 2) they are very good teams I agree but not High School. 3) you cannot have 19 year olds on your team and still call yourself a High school. That is a prep-school tourney and yes are very good.

No one leaves stars on the bench to play less talented players. Its sports. Sometimes its not perfect but the coaches and kids give great effort. To lose five games by 1 you have to be fighting as a team. That is real team sports. Not criticizing every aspect of their game. Get a life.

Anytime that there is a conflict of interest, there will be people who question who plays. It's not just Massapequa and lacrosse. Any Sport, any town that has a coach with a family's member on the team, people will question when they play their kid or their kids friends. Any coach who is a director and coach of a travel team that has players paying to play on the travel team will question the travel kids play time. If the kids deserve to play or not, they will always question it.

Best teams on the island are all from Suffolk C. Then everyone else. That won’t change for at least next 3-4 years. Comsewogue beat SWR, is currently ranked 19th in the nation and is in the "B" division. But you knew that of course...

Also take into consideration that with the 2019 State Championship roster and no season last year more than likely this years lineup never played a second at the varsity level. Give them time.

I agree with the above statement. Just a heads up people that detest Pequa the coaches son gets some playing time, some not a whole lot so not really sure why they continue to get bashed. The two Sophomores that start a Middie deserve to start so again not really seeing the favoritism.

The Junior and Seniors on Pequa that start all deserve to start. The Sophomores that start all deserve to start not really sure where all this other nonsense is coming from. And if your being honest coaches kid is getting better every game IMO. Also take into consideration that with the 2019 State Championship roster and no season last year more than likely this years lineup never played a second at the varsity level. Give them time. That can be said about 90% of all teams this year. On an excuse. Hicksville should have made the playoffs over Pequa.

Plainview is probably strongest team Hicksville played....and lost

Big game Saturday against Malvern/east Rockaway.
