UA games are all inclusive (anyone can try out) versus exclusive. Many have complained about the selection process surrounding the UA games but at least everyone can try out. Clearly the NLF member organizations are trying to "flex" their muscle to the exclusion of everyone outside of the "club". The market always clears. What happens if all of the NLF's top players go play UA and pass on the NLF National Tryouts? Will they kick them off of the club. If the numbers are large, I'm guessing the clubs relent and let the kids stay. Wouldn't it be funny if the players/parents advocated for themselves (see the PLL) and put together a nationwide circuit of elite squads with open tryouts at half the cost of the NLF clubs?

Curious if any Crabs or Madlax parents would share how this has been communicated to them. The baltimore tryouts and actual event on same days kids will need to pick one. This is a Ryan M production. Obviously a way for him to control process. He did not let the 23s attend UA tryouts last year

Speaking for crabs parents - RM has made it clear that he does not want players trying out for UA anymore.

Does he have something against UA ?? or Corrigan Sports ?? or just want all his players to pay him the tryout money.
Only so many NLF Club players can be on the regional team.

It is simple, 'Parity' or to at least attempt to have Parity. Sounds funny when it comes from the NLF because they are notorious for excluding entire Clubs from their events. NLF was the top tier and then UA,Warrior and Showtime slowly started to grow and surpass them. Bitterness also plays a major factor because it is well known and very true that UA has the worst and dishonest selection process for picking a team. Year after Year in every region there is a major bias from local lacrosse leaders and coaches for certain players to make or not make the team. Baltimore and Dc this year is a good example. Look at the coaching staffs and all the evaluators then look at each roster and see how many players are directly tied to them. NLF is simply trying to get back at the top of the club tournament and recruiting showcases. UA is so big now it will be hard to compete but there is a ton of players that get passed up and these tryouts that the market is there to try.
Not to mention the amount of money lost and the amount to be made!

Well the Crabs are essentially the only Maryland NLF team... so who do you think will make the Maryland Regional team? Umm - maybe the Crabs players and anyone else that RM is trying to get to be a Crabs player? Go ahead and send the fat crab your $285 (yes that's right it's $285 to tryout!!) - Good luck!

I believe its all about the Benjamins. If you give up your day job and count on Club Lax to pay the bills and simultaneously lose some of your relevancy you have a tendency to lash out at your perceived persecutors. Parents who fall for this "Elmer Gantry" bombastic proclamations and threats need to have their heads examined. If your kid is good enough, the King Crab needs you much more than you need him.

WOW !!! 285 for a tryout ! My understanding it is 200, about same as UA of 195. Either way, its a lot for both,Whatever happened to those Free or 15 dollars tryouts !

I do agree that UA selection process is a shame. If you dont have some in with the coach in UA , your chances of making team are almost nonexistent. Wonder how that will change with NLF.

There is a ton of kids from Maryland that will go to NLF tryouts just to avoid the UA disgrace

There's one way to make the UA team - be one of the 2 or 3 best players at your position and whomever the coach is will know who you are and want pick you. Then play well at the tryouts. The coaches are going to round out the team with kids they prefer and/or fit a role ie d mid, off ball attack etc. There seams to be a handful of surprises every year as well. Every tryout club, HS, NCAA, team USA pro will have some politics - real or perceived. Kinda of like everything else in life. This NLF is so RM and his colleagues can control the politics and make a buck. Coaches always come to the UA tryouts in baltimore. and assume some other regions. Will be interesting dynamic for Crabs players shell out for NLF and don't get picked

Warrior and Showtime have passed NLF events, hopefully you are joking ! They are different and arent even close. . The NLF championship alone draws just about every coach in D1, Teams from all over country with crazy good players,

Maybe you need to make an NLF team and see what competition is like and who is out there recruiting before spouting off.

I've been to the NLF, Showtime and UA events and my boys have played in them all. When the events didn't conflict, of course almost every D1 coach was there: so what. The coaches go to the best event available, period. My point is the best kids in the NLF made the UA and Showtime showcases plus the best kids (somewhat more open process) who weren't part of the NLF. If there's a conflict between the UA and NLF championship teams this year, let's see which event has more D1 HCs with teams ranked in the top 20.

Dont understand what you are saying now?? UA event and NLF championship are not the same type of recruiting event nor are they likely to be on same day. Your argument falls flat on its face.

Now NLF National event and UA event will be on same day and competitive. Frankly I am not sure what will be better for college coaches, I guess this year will likely tell what way it will go. Will be interesting. UA is a great event and very good players. NLF is new, so we shall see. But I bet NLF will be really good too.

Best thing about these two events is that you will get more players participating at a high level. Will it be worth it ? Time will tell.

Hawks, FCA for starters. Plenty of other clubs have great teams at certain age groups - Looneys, 91MD locally. Off top of my head Brotherly Love, Igloo, Edge Canada, 24/7. NLF doesn't have a monopoly on the best players

Can someone explain on UA process is a sham? You know with actually facts. I thought Baltimore team won the Command 2 years in a row. Seems like they did a pretty good job picking the right players. I’ve been in the room when they’ve picked the team. Around 10 evaluators from all different clubs and schools talking about jersey numbers on a whiteboard. Maybe it’s not perfect but it’s not a sham and it’s produced two back to back champions.

My son didn't make the team despite my wife and I agreeing with his grandfather that he is the best player in the area. Fact

This post is hilarious.

Fact check: Yes the UA selection process is flawed and biased but the last time I checked the DC and Baltimore teams (boys) were in the Highlight finals and the DC Command team won the whole thing. The Crabs had numerous kids on both teams? I would posit, Crabs kids had a big leg up in trying out for both of these UA markets.

Recruiting tournament landscape: Yes, Warrior and Showtime have surpassed the NLF event in relevancy but unless NLF opens up their ranks and allows open participation, they will never be more than a niche event.

NLF does not allow all teams in . joke .

Obviously your son didnt make a NLF team. So what teams are left out that would compete against the best ? Give us some names

Hawks, FCA for starters. Plenty of other clubs have great teams at certain age groups - Looneys, 91MD locally. Off top of my head Brotherly Love, Igloo, Edge Canada, 24/7. NLF doesn't have a monopoly on the best players

There were a bunch of Hawks teams at NLF events last year. Not sure what the process to attend is if your are not an NLF Club but obviously it happens.

Fact: the DC squad won the Command title last year. The Baltimore team got knocked out by them in the semis after beating them in group play. Two evenly matched teams. Parents and club coaches can disparage the selection process and outcome, but the fact is the Baltimore Highlight team was the champion last year and the Command team was arguably the second best team in the tournament. Few the folks griping have ever picked a championship all star team. Its not the best 22 players. Its the best players at the role being targeted. Watch John Danowksi pick the US team, he was picking the "best" team not the "best" 22 players.

From UA site " The TRYOUT is intended to select the top 22 players regardless of what school, state, or club team affiliation.' . It says the best players not the best players to form a team. If that was the case, it would be littered with players that are from same team/club/League that know coach/coaches and their style. And that is exactly what people complain about. Better players being left out that are not affiliated with the coaches. Hot bed areas like Balt are lucky as there is not much different in skill of top players , but everyone knows there are many players with a better tryout that are left out due to others who are known community. Does Balt get a bad team, nope, it just is not a tryout like advertised by UA. It is supposed to be a showcase of players for one weekend, not a team that will be performing for your country where you need cohesion of players due to the amount of practices and games.

It is a tryout for 5- 7 players at most...the rest are already on the team and everyone knows it irregardless of how they perform that day. Frankly many do perform well and deserve it so it is not like a huge amount get in that dont deserve it either.

UA could just as easily ask the coaches in MIAA and a couple local clubs who are top players and get the result they do without any tryout. But of course they wouldnt get that much income from that.

I really don't care what the UA tryout advertisement says: the coaches of the respective regional team are trying to field a team that gives them the best shot of winning, period. The boys are trying out for a team which best reflects the region. They don't care about the showcase nature of it, they want to win! The Baltimore area did your proposed all star selection process in the past and was summarily beaten repeatedly (during the past decade), Invariably they suffered from failing to put SSDMs, two way middies and "glue guys" on the team and hence they lost. Every HC worth anything tries to field the best team period. And yes these teams practice 3-4 times and try to become more cohesive over the tournament.

You confirm just what I stated, Baltimore team and many others are fielding teams that have players that are not the 22 Best players. Everyone knows that a bunch of top players along with some great role players makes a better team than a bunch of top players only who may or may not play well together.

I think your beef is with UA and its advertisement. Maybe get them to change it to the best players to form a team not 22 Best players . That would be more truthful according to you.

Watch the video on the DC tryouts: there is no false advertising here. Listening and reading comprehension is an underrated skill in life.

Wonder how many Spalding and SJC kids make it this since their coaches will not be coaching?

Don’t see too many 22s making any team this coming year unless the 21s are weak in a given region. NLF event will be good for the 22s this year. Don’t forget who won the tournament this year hater. 🤡

Most top true 22s can compete against those players. They have done it.

They may, but there must be more to it than that as most teams are loaded with them and many are starters.

What’s the word on the NLF Futures event happening this weekend? I see NLF posting about certain “top” players being there. Are college coaches recruiting the event?

Whatever coaches show up will be paid to be there and coach. The NCAA Men's Lacrosse recruiting calendar lists January 6-20, 2020: Contact period (no lacrosse evaluations are permitted)

Lax season is less than a month away for High School in MD! MIAA is going to be very competitive this year with Calvert Hall leading the way again. Who will challenge them this year? St.Mary's again or someone else? Can anyone take down Severna Park in 4A (5 ships this decade including 4 in a row) or Westminister in 3A? MD lacrosse has never been better across the board!

Well well, look at the haters. What would possess someone to make up total lies and say they are "all 17". Not even close, snowflake. When my son's team loses a game we talk about how the other team played better. We don't blame it on the refs or say the coach is terrible. We also don't make up totally ignorant lies in the effort to make snowflake jr. feel better.

Someone was hangry when posting last night. Get a grip or get off BOTC. This is the way it has been since inception on this site. 98% of the poo you read here is false, yet everyone still lets their panties get all bunched up about it. Comical.
