They all paid the same amount of money. If the playing time was going to be unequal then that should be stated up front. There are lots of clubs that have a philosophy that wins and losses don't mean anything and that there will be equal time for all regardless of the score. Obviously, Express is not one of those clubs. In high school and college you can't expect equal playing time. But in the pay for play world, that should be the only way. Isn't that socialism? As a capitalist and an American I am proud that my son plays for a real American team that try's to win and not just participate. Good luck trying to get that full ride to University of Leningrad comrade I hear the Tovarishch's are looking for a middy

If you come on this site more then once a year you know that playing time is not equal on Express or pretty much any other team.

Point is, it happened. And we're not talking about an overtime to decide the NCAA championship. Although you would think we were given how the playing time is managed. They are at an age now where it's not about winning but about exposure and field time. The who beat who is bygone. These families paid for their kids' athletic ability to be seen by coaches. Talk about a confidence killer. I'm sure there were a lot of consoling in those car rides home.
just a thought here, if a kid is not a top player on his team at this time and his coaches feel three or four players on his own team are better then him, again, at this point. do you really think another shift or two in front of D1 coaches is really going to be a life changer? They all paid the same amount of money. If the playing time was going to be unequal then that should be stated up front. There are lots of clubs that have a philosophy that wins and losses don't mean anything and that there will be equal time for all regardless of the score. Obviously, Express is not one of those clubs. In high school and college you can't expect equal playing time. But in the pay for play world, that should be the only way. Playing time will always be equal on the lower level B teams and the C teams. On A teams and competitive B teams the best players will play more. And some of those best players didn't even pay as much as you did. Just the way it is.

Some teams will have kids travel but not play them and that is wrong. Barring behavior issues, if a kid is good enough to have his fees taken he should play or the coach should let him and his parents who are paying upfront. Should play time be equal…nope, but each kid should see a decent amount of time on the field. It is hard to watch sometimes but at this level parents are paying for exposure. There shouldn't be 30 kids on a team and coaches shouldn't pad the teams with older kids.

Not sure if you completely understand the Elite Travel lax world, do a little research on the Dukes website under questions: Look up playing time. Do the same for Leading Edge in NJ. Playing time at these top clubs is earned, not given. It's the way it works. I seriously doubt that anybody in the travel lacrosse world thinks for a minute that playing time is going to be equal at this level, and particularly anybody that posts here on BOTC. overheard this conversation on the fields sunday -
Parent: *Coach Chanenchuck, did you order the team to and win and not play equal playing time?
Coach Lynott: You don't have to answer that question!
MC: I'll answer the question!
MC: You want answers?
Parent: I think I'm entitled to.
MC: You want answers?
Parent: I want the truth!
MC: You can't handle the truth!
MC: We live in a world that has fields, and those fields have to be guarded by men with lacrosse sticks. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Daddy Richpants? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for the kids on the bench, and you curse the Express. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That unbalanced playing time, while tragic, probably wins games. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, you win games with the better players in the game. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that sideline, you need me on that sideline. We use words like equal, fair, fun. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent spoiling your kids. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under dreams of scholarships that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, pay your tuition and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a whistle, and stand on the sideline. Either way, I don't give a damn what playing time you think your kid is entitled to. Parent: Did you order the unfair playing time?
MC: I did the job I...
Parent: Did you order the unfair playing time?
MC: You're Goddamn right I did!

I have a solution for the kid who isn't getting playing time... grow up to repeat 8th grade, then go into St Anthony's 1 year older than everybody else. Once you graduate, go to Prep School. Once you are done with all of thisyou can then go to U. Maryland and red shirt a few times. The result= your son will be 25 years old starting D1.
Enjoy the ride and keep paying $100 every year for tryouts!!!

The Express and other clubs are merely platforms for exposure. Plain and simple. The wins and losses mean nothing except maybe in the U15 national tournament. Otherwise, who wins is meaningless - the only time winning matters is with your high school team where you actually play for something meaningful like a state championship. Otherwise, the club's only purpose is to teach and provide exposure. End of story.

Why does the "U15 national" mean anything??? Not all the best teams attend and even Express fielded uncommitted players and not necessarily the best. Some of us said let's enjoy the downtime. And Channy never has that many words to say. Love the man immensely but he is a man of few words even when dealing with another obnoxious parent.

If you come on this site more then once a year you know that playing time is not equal on Express or pretty much any other team. Absolutely. Unless you are at a college showcase. Then winning is not the only objective. It's to give all the kids an opportunity to play in front of college coaches. The only person concerned with a win or a lose there are the clubs. It's a reflection on program if they win or lose , and that means dollars. Shouldn't drag kids to Maryland or Philadelphia to stay in hotels , have them write letters to college coaches letting them know they will be at showcase, and then not play them.

if your team wins then college coaches want to come and see that team play, if you have a few elite players then the college coaches will be at those games to see those kids and that can benefit all the kids that might not have had an opportunity to play in front of those coaches at all if they were not on an elite winning team. And if they are not getting a lot of reps it is because they probably are not ready to be seen by D1 coaches. playing in front of college coaches is not going to get you recruited, playing well in front of college coaches will.
Here is a completely hypothetical situation....lets say a random team (The Terps) have a great player (goalie) and ten colleges come to see him play because they all want him, you have a kid on that hypothetical team (the Terps) and your son gets to play in front of these same 10 coaches (HYP, UNC, Hop, Brown,Lehigh ect) that are there to see a one player (goalie) even if he only gets a few shifts that is more then he would have gotten in front of those coaches without that great player. Everybody on the team should be paying for that kids lunch because that kid has done more for your son then anybody else....hypothetically

It's unbelievably disappointing to let college coaches know your schedule ahead of time and not be given the chance to perform regardless of whether you play well or not at least be given the opportunity given the money paid. If not given the opportunity then don't take the money. Scam.

This is a double edged sword. Club owners like your fees, and can't charge $1500 for a few one day events and not play the paying customers. These are events where kids play 3x games with 20 min halves and that is barely enough for the college coaches to make any assessment on top players. Then that gets diluted when the club guys have to an extent get all the cattle through the field. It is toxic for the strong players getting diluted and hypocritical to the families of average players who are being sold fantasy of being an early recruit. This destroyed some great 2017 teams.
Some parents proposed to our ex-club rostering only 16 kids per team, and then just take two split up teams. All the kids can play until their tongues hit the carpet. Since these HS showcases are not about winning games it seems, that should work, right? Club owner said no way, then we'd have to put out two mediocre teams and coaches won't stay to watch and none of the families wanted to pay more dues to cover more teams entered into the events. Everyone unhappy, then people leave for another club and the cycle starts again. There are 2016 and 2017 kids who have played for 3-4 clubs in the past 2 years. Sorry to all the 2018 parents who are disappointed now. I wish I could say it gets better.

A lot of the chatter has been about the Terps this past weekend, particularly the final game against the Crabs - The Crabs game was the fourth game of the day and there were hardly any coaches at that game. All the kids had plenty of opportunities to showcase their talents all day. If your kid is not getting significant playing time in a game with his club team he is probably not going to be an early recruit so relax already, still lots of showcases, tournaments and games left for all the boys to showcase, this is a marathon not a sprint.

Channy does care. He just realizes there are a bunch of useless parents who berate him because they don't see the truth in their kids' abilities. "Useless" parents? Bet he doesn't think they are so useless when he is cashing their checks....A business that does not respect its customers will ultimately fail. Doesn't matter if you are selling lacrosse or running a dry cleaner. The fact that Express keeps chugging along makes me question whether these are isolated sour grapes.

He just keeps churning through a new group of unaware consumers. I bet there are less than 20% of express customers (suckers) that stick with them for more than a 2-3 years. But there is always a new wave every year of more suckers with starry eyed fantasies that he can suck dry when the more experienced families have long exited the crime scene.
