Heard Middle school girls got shelled at Brine!! Was that a mostly YJ team? I think mostly Elevate I heard the 2017 Elevate girls put on quite an impressive display at Brine! I heard the 2017 LONG ISLAND team won. Brine only good for MS, otherwise, no one cares! Is that true? I was wondering if it's a quality recruiting event for 2017's, or just a nice accomplishment?

For now..... Wait until Thorn schools everybody in how to get the best out of her girls. Look at what she's done for us at ESM over the past few years. Agreed 100%. Skakandi had choked in big games with CSH. Thorn might be an excellent coach, I have no experience with her but the results so far do not support your comments. I will take Skakandi any day and that is in support of her as a coach, not a shot at Thorn. The first game between these teams would have been a 20+ goal differential if not for the sportsmanship showed by a fellow member of the same club. Again, not taking shots at the kids or the coach, just supporting Skakandi as you attempted to tear her down. Coaching a blue team and winning certainly does not make someone a good coach. Put all the top talent on one team and its hard for a coach to screw up. A good coach on the other hand can take second team players, coach em up and in time produce a better team that actually plays like a team, without girls who hold on to the ball dodging, pulling back re setting, redodging and going to goal yet again. You can have multiple strong players on the field who can all take it to the cage, and you will win some games like that for now, but as they get older that style of play will disappear especially against better teams who can play defense.Down the road bad coaches get exposed. Agreed, but the point was take it easy on coach Skakandi, she does a great job. Why does Thorn have to be the best coach in the world just because your daughter is on the team? Trying to justify the second team is the place to be because they will get better coaching and will beat the blue team any day now is demeaning to everyone associated with the other team. second team is the place to be because they wish their daughter was on the blue team.

Looking forward to the Babylon Blast what other teams are going? It's a PAL tourney, enjoy beating up on town teams and playing against other yj teams - at least you don't have to drive 3-4 hours! It seems liberty is going. They are not PAL I saw a PAL team beat their black team at the Jump into June tornament.

Great insight about blue players and their parents. Selfish all around. The pulling back and resetting without even a look to their teammates happens all the time and then when they do pass they usually have 1 friend they will pass to. Once they get the ball you can stop running because it is never going to get passed back. They are shooting for the 7th grade call up to varsity, the 9th grade commitment to college and to be the scoring leader in newsday beating up on weak teams by scoring 10 a game. SELFISH!!

She has done nothing... It is the youth program at ESM that develops these girls into excellent talents. and a little bit of travel. These girls are dumped in her lap.

Like it or not, the extreme selfish play started when travel really took off. Now everything is about call ups, letters of intent and scholarships. Its a business for the travel owners (I think someone on the topgun thread estimated $300-500k per year) And its also a business for the parents who are looking for a return on their investment which at $2,000 - $3,000 per year is sizable when you start in 1st grade!

Return on investment? I have seen so many references to this on this thread. What a pathetic way to view what is supposed to be a fun and enriching experience for our daughters. You people treat them almost like they are horses to be bred and trained for a profit. In fact I have heard exactly that from one father on the sidelines. Thought he was joking at first. He wasn't. Not to mention the fact that in just about every instance, the so called ROI is negative. Please, please, please let the girls enjoy this great sport. Let them play because they love it, not because they are supposed to get mom and dad a return on their "investment". Look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, is it about me or is it about my daughter? Hope fully the right answer will be staring you in the face.

None of the 1st and 2nd grade girls chose to play travel lacrosse, their parents wanted it first. Most of the kids now love it but don't fool yourself into thinking that most travel mommies and daddies don't want that big $5,000 per year athletic scholarship lol. Daddy wants that ROI and to brag on Mondays at work at how he was in Maryland over the weekend playing in a college showcase for 3rd graders (against 3 other LI teams).

She was the first in off the bench and did well. She has started every game since 9th grade and is a major part of the teams success. If lucky enough maybe 2 8th graders will be called up to JV and thats it. Juniors on Varsity this year played JV last year and are D1 committed . The Juniors wait their turn and start on Varsity and are impact players.

They are blind to the facts. Their daughter is on the "blue" team but she barely plays. If she was as good as "you" thought she was she would actually get on the field in those 23 minute playoff games, but she's not. That's why she will play JV next year as a 9th grader where she belongs.

In our town if you pay the coach under the table or give big cash holiday gifts you get on Varsity. That's why we didn't make it out of the county this year!

I graduated last year but can tell you my HS took an 8th grader for the first time when I was on team and despite some upper classmen treating her like complete [lacrosse] out of jealousy she was a huge impact in getting us to the playoffs. I followed her this year while I was at school and not only did she start every game she got All County HM and had most assists AND goals. I knew she would be a record setter, Glad I had the chance to play w her and am here to attest that YES, some of the younger girls can be impact players. The older girls (who thankfully graduated this year, they were mean to everyone not just the younger girls) need to learn how to work as a team with the up and comers. Lacrosse is a great sport and I have found it to be much better on the collegiate level where teamwork and bonding is part of the practice and unlike HS continues year round.

Once they get the ball you can stop running because it is never going to get passed back. They are shooting for the 7th grade call up to varsity, the 9th grade commitment to college and to be the scoring leader in newsday beating up on weak teams by scoring 10 a game. SELFISH!!
Agree 100%, from watching it happen too many times. Unfortunately, they seem to get ALL those things you mentioned in the last sentence...especially the 7th grade call up, and it's really too bad... Did any towns that had 7th graders on Varsity make the playoffs? Ours didn't last year, or this year, and there will be probably be 7th graders again next year...it's a joke, and having these 12 year old girls makes no difference in the outcome of any games, or the final record...it's unnecessary and a joke! I could see if they were impact players, resulting in more wins...not the case at all! In my town there has been one 8th grader that was pulled up to varsity in the last ten years. Thanks mom of 8th grader who got pulled up! [/ Really? Finally a voice from a kid and you need to make a snide remark? Go away

our high school pulled up 7th graders and 8th graders this year when we were 9-0 and put a senior and juniors on the bench to put them on the field. Biggest joke we made the playoffs of course but could have gone so much further when the inexperience causes us the game in the county championship!!!

You are obviously from ESM, and clueless, the 7th and 8th graders had nothing to do with your loss. I would also say many of those 7th and 8th graders have more experience playing lacrosse than many of the older kids.

The younger girls absolutely did NOT cause the ESM losses. The biggest joke is that you're still looking to lay blame on one or two kids for losing in the counties. They win as a team and they lose as a team.

It is a shame that someone would come on here and blame the 7th/8th graders for a loss. Just ignorant. Those girls pulled up are the future of that program, unless a few disgruntled parents ruin it.

Y is this on a yj site who cares Because YJ parents need somebody to fight with or it wouldn't be the YJ site. I have never seen a team/organization/group of people who thrive on controversy and insulting people as much as YJ parents. I just don't get it.

What will happen if jones makes the finals again this weekend ? They'll play hard and try to win?? I am starting to think that CR dropping the blue team, yellow team labels might have been a great idea. It lets teams battle it out for top dog. At some point a team can develop and surpass teams in front of them without the color stigma attached.

You know it so stop with the holier than though Tony Robbins speech. I'm sick of paying to be put down. I'm done!!

What will happen if jones makes the finals again this weekend ? Then next year they will play at the grind in the weakest pool like your TG team and be assured to make it to the finals.YJ 2020 is doing fine why try to start the nonsense , 3 very good teams and all seem to like their coaches.

Negative attitude = Negative Results I heard some 2019's are playing down on Curcio this weekend to ensure the win and secure their position as the #1 2020 team. If I was on Jones team I would want some answers.
