The Girls Varsity Lacrosse season will be getting onto the practice fields in just about 90 days and the action for Nassau (Section VIII) and Suffolk (Section XI) figures to be highly contentious this season. For our second consecutive year, BOTC will be the leading source of Long Island Varsity Lacrosse news, scores, and stories. Please use this thread to cover the Spring 2012 Season.

Some one please clarify this for a ignorant guy (me)... all these girls are "playing lacrosse " at these schools or are they attending these schools?? I noticed 2 goalies from the same high school are committed to play D-1?? there couldn't have been enough playing time for both of them in High school so I will assume that the recruiting looks came from there club team

This is club lacrosse and yes both of our Team Elevate Goalies will be playing college - one of them will be D1 the other will be D11. Both are starting goalies for their respective high schools - Cold Spring Harbor and Baldwin.

I was referencing the list from post #6073... 2 players from the same high school, both goalies, getting scholarships. is this proof that in some instances High School performance is not as important as what you do in the club tournaments. I dont think they both could have played the same number of quality minutes.

Got it. Some coaches in the past have platooned two goalies. Have not seen it on the girl's side in high school, but have definitely seen it on the boys side.

I don't believe high school performance is nearly as important as club season can be. In refernce to post #6073 both goalies, same team, but one definately played more that the other. it was the summer tournaments that made them each stand out to college coaches. yu also have to rememer that the high school season is the same as college so coaches cant always attend games unless the team makes it to counties, lic's, etc.

Which 3 or 4? I would bet the bottom 11 on that team would beat any other LI team!No disrespect to the other teams , but Don't disrespect the non-starters on that team. I have seen them play, they are VERY good! They are all D 1 caliber kids! There is no need to call them Mediocre. They definitely do not have all of the top 3 or 4 in the winter league and they are competing with all of the teams! I bet if took a poll of the top 3 or 4 you would get a lot of different opinions!
The same age group at liberty played G.C. varsity 2 weeks ago and also lost by I think 4 goals, (That Garden City team is unbelievable, without question, best in the country). So hopefully when the two meet at tourney it will be a good game

I know it isn't the right thread but GC Varsity is not clearly the best team in the country! Northport and Hauppaugue will be right there with them and watch out for ESM! They are very athletic and have the best goalie!
You are obviously a suffolk county lax parent, and I'll assume you haven't seen G.C. play. If E.S.M. or Haupauge were better , they would have beaten them in the L.I. champ. game. at some point over the last 6 years, 7 if you count the year G.C. won the Island , but lost the state . No other school even comes close. So no offense , until some team actually beats them , and doesn't just "look strong this year", they are the best team in N.Y. without question, and in my opinion, the best team in the country. Oh by the way I could say the same thing about 2015 (real) blue. And no I am not a Y.J. parent

I know that GC generally just reloads year after year, but they lost a lot to graduation last year. I think St. Anthony's is probably better than they are this year (they were about as even as you could get last year with GC just a little better). Hauppauge will be tough this year and ESM will be fun to watch. Expect another good year from Mt. Sinai and class A is Northport's to lose. With Manhasette going back to C, they should win that in Nassau. And, as usual, Farmingdale will take Class A in Nassau.

Even the best GC teams are not best in the country, there is a high school down near Baltimore that the GC coach won't play against.

So your saying that maybe , some school in Md. , might be better so G.C. will not play against them. I don't believe that at all. I don't see the Md. schools running up here to play either

No one said those teams are better than GC. They are in their class though. You don't just lose 2 players from the USA team and a great goalie and get better. Hauppaugue has everyone back and they are seniors! ESM is better than people think!

ESM was very good last year. DeMartino took coaches by suprise. The better coaches will game plan to take her out of the game this season. They will finish behind Hauppauge and Rocky Point (this season's sleeper!). ESM will also lose when they play Mt. Sinai....

If ESM plays a team game they can beat any of the teams-which they showed in the playoff game against Hauppague. We will see what the season brings-talk is cheap

That maybe so, but they lost some of their best players and there isn't much coming up from JV.

And since they just graduated their goalie last year they really dont have a good goalie coming up this year. I believe the next in line is a freshman...correct me if im wrong.

GC lost some great talent last year but return 6 starters - Bruno (Princeton), Dickinson (Penn), Fuchs (Fairfield), McTernian (Richmond), Attanasio (Dartmouth) & Schmidt (Hopkins). The starters have championship experience and know how to win in stressful situations. In addition, GC has many non starters that are committed to D1 schools. GC is scheduled to play many challenging games against many talented teams this season (including Maryland power houses). They may not go undefeated but they will make a determined run for their 7th consecutive state championship.

I think both Mt. Sinai and ESM are both very good teams and this year it will come down to who brings their A-Game...

Does suffolk do preseason seeds like nassau or any kind of official preseason ranking system and if so where can they be found.

Until someone beats them they are the team to beat, but I think the road will be much more difficult for them after losing so much from last year.

Mt. Sinai will be very tough but I hear that their top offensive player is out for the school year with an injury that will hurt their chances

I am sure that will hurt their team, but Mt. Sinai has other kids who can score as well!

Garden City should be at the top until someone knocks them off.I believe Saint Anthonys will be right there with Garden City. Both teams lost a lot to graduation but SA will return 2 attack going to Florida and Harvard, midfield will return players going to the following schools Georgetown,UNC,Rutgers, Princeton,Jacksonvile,High Point,Their defense will be going to Georgetown ,UNH,American.Their goalie will be attending Brown. I like their chances versus anyone.
