From reading the website, it looks like you need to play in the National Tournament (considered the 2nd try-out) and there is another try-out later in July. Not sure who is doing the evaluations but it would seem that US lacrosse coaches probably make those decisions at that point.

The girls with the top 12 scores on team I from School Girls tryouts at Mt. Sinai will be nominated by Long Island Metro US Lax Chapter to US Lacrosse for consideration for U-19. There are no separate tryouts for U-19 at School Girls Tourney at Ceder Lane Park, MD. The U-19 evaluators will attend the games this weekend and score the kids on the top 12 list and the lists from all the other US Lax chapters. The best will be invited to formal tryouts in MD at the end of July. According to US Lacrosse over 800 girls nationwide signed up to be evaluated for U-19 at their chapter tryouts. What stinks is that if a girl who didn't make the top 12 list or is on Teams II or III and plays great at School Girls she still is not eligible for consideration for formal tryouts in July.

It's a combined team and you would still get the TG crybaby crowd saying its unfair.

Congratulations to US Lacrosse National Champions Schoolgirls Tournament winners LI Metro Team 1. Faced a great LI Metro Team 2 in championship game. Both teams won their brackets and defeated teams from Philly, New England, D.C. & last years winning team Baltimore! Congrats girls for representing Long Island so well!!

The weekend went great. 5 very evenly spread out coaches. GC, North Shore, Friends Academy, Mercy, and West Islip coaches. Great experience.

What does this mean? Your thought is the coaching was good for all the long island teams at the tournament?

Just for curiosity, which, if any, travel clubs are these coaches involved with?

It really doesn't matter. Please don't turn this into something negative. It was refreshing to see positive comments about something. Nobody needs u injecting any negativity into a great weekend. There was very little coaching going on. The girls went out and played and made their own adjustments. It was a great weekend for Long Island lacrosse. The girls parents and coaches all meshed with no issues. It didn't matter what club or High School you were from! They were all working well together Let's leave it at that! GREAT JOB ladies!!!!

West Islip was not one of the coaches for Schoolgirls.

i am curious, how do you very evenly spread out 5 coaches between 3 teams? And to make it even worse the team that had only one coach, that coach had a daughter playing on one of the other teams at the same time as the games he was coaching. So even though this coach is very good, at this tournament the coaching was minimal at best as it was obvious this coaches mind was probably on his daughters game. End result this team lost to teams that they were far better than.

How quick you are to judge. No negativity was implied, but you apparently feel there is some going on or you wouldn't have responded as you did. If there's nothing negative, then why not answer the question?

Probably because of your history of feeling CR controls all, and the feeling that comes with it that some YJ players may not deserve the recognition they get. Not sure but team one had a GC coach and Friends academy , do not believe either have a club affiliation. Team two was north shore coach , do not believe any club affiliation. team 3 coach was east islip and he coaches TG.

Nothing going on at all. But I have read your posts in the past regarding these events and didn't want to see anyone taint a great weekend. I am glad you weren't going to be negative. but u haven't always been positive! for example:
"Sounds like a tryout with a built-in bias to me. Are the HS coaches associated with any clubs?" or..."Okay (deep breath, diving in), both these programs have, in the past, been run by CR/the YJ. There has been a feeling that the tryouts are therefore biased. You can search this forum a year ago or so for that discussion because of course there are those who claim that it is in no way biased."

This is why I wanted to know who is running it this year, although I guess I can safely assume it's the YJ organization again since tryouts are being held at Mt. Sinai.

That being said, again, Great job Ladies, The weekend was about your hard work and talent and that all!

If I gave you $100 would you complain that I didn't give you more? Some people are never happy. How much "coaching" were you expecting? It's a showcase event for an all-star team.

Rosters are up and GASP it's YJ v YJ!! Some of the girls on the younger rosters didn't even step on the field , so how are they chosen as the best that played high school games this year?? That's what the "mission statement" reads? Seems to me like it's a made up game that YJ founder created so her girls can put it on their transcripts.

This is fantastic marketing by the YJ's. Since no outside teams go the "LI Elite Recruiting Showcase" anymore at Mitchell Field. Let's hold a YJ All-Star game at the same location at the same time so that the kids can add this to their resume. I wonder if they will also be charging their $10 admission at the door at Mitchel like they always do.

Actually see a descent number of top gun kids , I like the idea of Suffolk vs Nassau and could become a descent event in the future.

Eh, I know some non YJ's are rostered so it's not just the YJs. However, I saw on the website that you can nominate yourself. so, um, really? I guess all nominations get reviewed, and IDK who does that. I saw no PR about this until the rosters were announced.

Every "all-star" type event I've ever been to is like this. Brine, UA, Nike..... Teams are made up of players who are expected to dominate the ball/play for their respective club/HS teams 9 months out of the year. Thrown together, are they all the sudden going to become facilitators, picks and ride defenders?
