Discussions covering the Long Island Dune Dawgs and Havoc can be held in this thread. From the Havoc Lacrosse site, there is information covering the merger between these two clubs and their combined mission.

The directors of HAVOC Lacrosse and The Long Island Dune Dawgs Lacrosse programs are excited to announce the combining of programs. This merger will ultimately meet the needs of ALL athletes! HAVOC will remain a "travel" program meeting the needs of all developing athletes, while our Dune Dawgs program will be a "select" team, challenging the needs of higher level athletes. We feel that this merge is going to fill the cracks that other programs may have.

Both programs will receive the college level instruction and focus on the HAVOC philosophies: discipline, hard work, motivation and knowledge of the subject matter. These are cornerstones of success on which HAVOC Lacrosse has built their philosophy. We will empower our players with winning attitudes, skill development and instill within them certain basic values such as leadership, determination, self-confidence, emotional control, mental toughness, as well as the ability to accept responsibility. Tournament play is to be just one part of values and practice.

We would like to saturate our athletes in skill development through planned, disciplined, intricate practices. College level coaches will develop practices. We believe that athletes need to have consistent reinforcement of these fundamental skills. All players are different and differentiated instruction should be taken into consideration when teaching fundamentals, selecting positions, and motivating young men. Repetition is a key to learning and feedback from players is important in maintaining functional drills. All drills will be associated to the game. We do not drill for the sake of drilling.

We also believe that TEAM cohesiveness is crucial. We want our athletes to experience the true sense of what it means to be part of a TEAM. (Responsibility, bond, dependence, goals, familiarity) Athletes need to feel comfortable, and know they can depend on their team from their teammates to their coaching staff down to the parental support from the sidelines. We believe poise under pressure is the mark of a champion, and coaches must lead by example. Poise is the end result of preparation, knowledge of your opponent, and confidence in one's ability to make correct decisions. Athletes will get a true sense of what it means to be a WINNING team, because our athletes will focus on what is truly important, becoming a more skilled lacrosse player, while also gaining values strengthened through the team.

Well said!! This organization is about the boys, their experience and their growth as lacrosse players. There will always be haters, but we will not get into that. We show our stuff on the field.

They are a big group of 5th graders. Thanks for the compliment about them. Coach Mac does a great job with them. This is the reason why I decided to only play for the Havoc DuneDawgs this year. As a basketball coach myself, I feel that each position on the field, (i.e. attack, midfield, defense) needs to be taught the nuances of that particular position. This will allow the kids to attain a higher level of success individually, as well as, collectively.

Based on an indoor schedule I've seen for the winter, there are teams for 3rd/4th/5&6th grade playing.

Are you kidding??? Unbelievable....Is that from one of the sixth grade parents from the other teams they played and beat? Maybe you are speaking of one of our large 4th graders who bested your sixth grader....hmmm

Where did you hear that? Checked with people close to both organizations, and neither heard about that yet...

Thanks Cage. Do we know who started this nonsense that could potentially damage HDD tryout #s with that rumor?

Glad to hear it. Rally made no sense. From what I understood those guys merged last year in order to have a better structure, The DD guys handled the Admin side and Taylor handled the coaching aspects. Really nice set up since he has virtualy a coaching farm system in place threw his college job.

BOTC is not going to share any details on the source of the discussion. As for tryout numbers, we do not have visibility on the plans for the Dune Dawgs/Havoc tryouts and the marketing that they are doing. However, it is safe to say that at least in the context of BOTC, we have quickly dispensed with any questions.

What is the difference between 2018 Blue and Yellow? A & B or is it B&C with the Green being the A teams. I see there is no Green at that age so what is the deal. Anyone know how they were this year?

Green are "elite" teams. Both the 2018 teams were strong B teams which played some A depending upon the tournament. We expect to have 1-2 2018 A teams this year and at least 1 B.

They faired well, learning a tremendous amount from their coaches. ALL HDD Head Coaches have College Lacrosse experience. 98% of the coaching is NOT parent coaching, but coaches who are hired to COACH

Strong B teams? That is stretching it a bit. Let's hope for some good recruits coming down for tryouts. Understand you need to sell your program but keep it real.

Also, please define Elite? Thanks

Clearly you're not interested in learning about the program. As a parent of a player with this organization I'm not interested in BS. So good luck to you. I'm not "selling" a program, trying to give feedback, isn't that what BOTC is for?

I've had my sons play with other organizations, I happen to enjoy this one most and the way it is run. This was a great year and I am looking forward to more great times, outstanding coaching, and my kids learning a lot.

"Elite" would be a team that plays above the A level consistently. So call it AA AAA Elite whatever, it just means consistently above A.

both sides - Stop the nonsense - you can call any team any "letter" color (nobody is officially ranking the teams).

Being the best out of your age group makes you elite - comparing yourself to everybody else in your age group (not to be confused with being the best you can be).

Didnt we also learn any team can call themselves "A" that are truly "B" and any team can call themsleves "B" that are truly "A".

The following announcement was made at the Havoc Dune Dawgs web site. BOTC expresses our heartfelt sympathy to the family and the HDD program.

It is with heavy hearts that we share with you the passing of one of the members of our HDD Lacrosse Family. Mike Shotts, one of the HDD Directors, passed away suddenly late Sunday night. We are filled with sadness and shock by this sudden loss of not only our partner, but our good friend.

We know you all join us in wishing the Shotts' family sincere condolences. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this very tragic time.

Should you wish to offer condolences please forward them to us, and we will be sure the Shotts Family receives them.
