Let’s not digress back to the hold back conversation, every single team out there has kids who started kindergarten late. And we’re in high school here now folks, nobody gives two cents if a team has holdbacks or not. Those seniors are not gonna have any empathy whatsoever when they run over your sophomore or freshman in a varsity game whether a hold back or not

No one cares about it in high school games because they by definition cover all of high school. It's obviously different when you're playing in a tournament that's designed to have single-year age bands.

Stated differently, if none of this matters because they're in high school, then why don't you talk to your club coach and have him enter your team in a 2026 bracket tournaments? But of course you won't because they'd get murdered, despite all being in high school.

Seriously, this horse is beaten so badly it's now soup, and there's literally nothing to do about it and no one who would. Take a paxil and enjoy thew time you have left with the kid.

Complaints about holdbacks are valid in lower levels of competition, but not teams in the top 20-30 nationally who will be looking for attention from college coaches in a year. All the teams at that level have three kinds of players. First, holdbacks. Second, exceptionally good, big, and physically developed on age players who don't think twice about playing against holdbacks, especially since they are playing against older kids on their HS varsity teams. And third, players who used to be great, and are still pretty good, but have fallen behind because they have not yet developed physically to the point where they can compete against players in categories 1 and 2. Like it or not, that is elite lacrosse in the 2028 class today.
Crabs and MadLax probably have more category 1 than other programs, but all programs have their share.

How about the all star teams and others where the team isn't just holdbacks, but many of the active roster are currently 2027's and are "planning" to holdback or post grad. The point of a division is to play against your peers for the ability to play against like teams and for evaluation.

My point is to let anyone that wants play in a one year up or down from a Date like Sept 1. Forget grades. It would allow Holdbacks and anyone that wanted to play down like a holdback to do. And also you would be allowed to play your age or up to a year.

Simple as saying 2028 Sept 1 2009 , then it would be easy and fair, you got a 1 year + or -- window,

Of course this will never happen as it would stop all the holdbacks from getting an advantage and playing down.

It’s not that no one cares. It’s that no one who could do anything to change it cares. Perhaps take this to the 30 or younger boards.

Think about many of the NY teams that are competing against kids 1-2 years older all the time. With the late school cutoff date in NY plus all the holdbacks from out of state. There’s a reason those kids are good. Anyone can holdback and be good.

Stop NY teams hey have holdbacks also everyone does. The top club teams at least 40% of their kids are holdbacks. The Hilltoppers team is another level where an entire team of 26's was created but if your kid wants to play D1 lacrosse this is how it works. Think about the transfer portal when your kid is in college. They better get use to adversity and competing. Prep year kids coming in, redshirts, medical redshirts, transfer portal. It @ChillLaxin when one kid is physically a man and the other isn't but it will work itself out. What is shocking is college coaches sometimes do not seem to understand that.

Everyone has hold backs but NY as of now don’t have 40% it’s more like 5% on each team @ChillLaxin right the younger kids are starting to kick your older kids butts I guess you guys will have to reclass another year

Serious question and I have no skin in the game, but have Madlax managed to rebuild? Looks like they had a nice fall but I have no idea what level of comp they faced. Who's coaching that team now?

Re ML rebuilding. They have about 36 people on the team, so if rebuilding means making money...then yes. Same coach. They tend to play easy schedules like this past weekend at NAL

They have one kid scoring their goals and according to a parent he has already played two years of varsity lacrosse, which is downright comical

But as previous poster noted, they get whacked by good teams and struggle to beat B teams. Took OT to beat Igloo the other day

They “rebuilt” around the coach’s son who doesn’t come off the field. He’s a legend.

Rules for that NAL tournament state that games can end in a tie and there is no overtime so CM and his shenanigans strike again. If I was Igloo coach I would be irate.

Maybe the igloo coach said let’s play. Who knows, just glad you aren’t not my kids coach. Participation trophies are for pre-k soccer.

As he should be. He is one of best players at his age and will be a top 5 pick in college recruiting.

I would disagree with this. ML lost 8-5 to Red Hots and 4-3 to Leading Edge. Yes, you want to win, but these games were competitive.

ML goalie kept them competitive in the LE game.

Are they still brining kids in from out of state for fall tourneys like they did with HOCO and summer? I don't get how local parents would be on board with a roster that big and out of area kids taking playing time, but maybe it's all worth it to brag to your friends about squeaking out a win vs. Igloo.

The goalie is pretty good. As is the 17 year old middie who has played two years of varsity before any of these other kids have seen the inside of a high school.

And yet, they still can’t beat anyone

Going along with the rules of a tournament that you’re playing in isn’t a participation trophy. CM did what he does which is assume the rules don’t apply to him and in this case he made it so they didn’t. When he tried to get the ML Red Hots game post humously cancelled because ML was losing, that would be an example of a tournament director who reminded him that the rules do apply to him.

USCL rankings are out - yes they are deeply imperfect but they're the best thing out there so a few thoughts on how their methodology could be improved:

1. You should never lose points if you win by 8+ goals. The way it works now you can be guaranteed of dropping if you get a weird pairing at a tourney, and you can try to pick appropriate tournaments but ultimately you can't completely control who registers.

2. Similarly, you should never gain points if you lose by 8+ goals. Similar logic, you shouldn't reward people for getting blown out even if by a much better team.

3. They should give some point boost for winning a game, and not just look at goal differential - teams play to win games and not just lose close games, and the rankings should reflect that.

Others?

Unfortunately there was a real ugly hit this weekend at the Aloha tournament at Blandair park. Kid on Clippers took a terrible hit to the head, was down for a fairly long time and did finally walk off on his own. Hopefully he is alright now. There have been a few ugly hits like this that have popped up over the spring / summer and now into fall. I thought this incident was handled well by the tournament trainers, coaches, etc. Referees also made the correct call to eject the player who laid the hit. For me the question becomes is there a way to deter these hits anymore than they already are? I am not sure what that would look like in terms of suspending players or what? Or is this just an unavoidable reality?

Just par for the course with the current age windows and enforcement.

Hawks are definitely not the Hawks of past… one could argue that DCE is the top team right now based on who they’ve beaten, and to whom they’ve lost. I’d also say ML had a better fall than Next Level, who continues to surprise to the downside. They haven’t beaten anyone in a year, and they certainly didn’t beat anyone this fall. Madlax found some new kids and won some decent games. Team 91’is better than the Clippers and Team MD

It's a bogey with the over-agressive coaching. Perhaps there should be more pre-game warnings on this stuff but ejection and 3 minute non-releasable with a coach warning and coach ejection on the next one would put an end to it right away.
