What most Long Island crybabies don’t realize is that the most common cutoff date to start kindergarten in the US is August 1. The second most common cutoff is September 1. Some are in July, and some are even in June! You can look it up if you can muster the stamina, or imagine a world in which there are places on earth other than Long Island.

For 8th grade and under, USA Lacrosse uses a Sept 1 cutoff for the 12 month grouping, and June 1 for the 15 month grouping…because they understand this. It’s not cheating for a kid born in June 2009 to have played 2028 lacrosse this past summer unless a tournament had its own cutoff.

It’s not cheating when the rules SPECIFICALLY ALLOW IT. Duh.

The dolts who don’t realize that NY has the latest cutoff in the country are the ones crying the most.

Reclassing is part of Coach C's business model.....Keeps you around for another year....Another tryout, another $4500.00....Don't drink the Kool-Aid!!!! Your child's education and mental well being should be your number one priority....There is more money for academics than there is for lacrosse.....Lacrosse is the bonus.....You child doesn't have to be on any of these teams to be recruited if he is good enough....

Everyone in NY is well aware of this. You aren’t breaking new ground. We are complaining about kids on Long Island not out of state who reclass and who manipulate our states cutoff date for school to start (Kindergarten) their kids in school later than they should for athletic gain.

You may realize this, but you are in the very small minority of people on Long Island who seem to realize it.

You’re moving the goalposts, but complaining about a kid “reclassing" by starting school late is just as weak. The birthday cutoff is what matters. That’s the compromise that takes into account safety but also the fact that 48 states use a school birthday cutoff earlier than Jan 1.

A kid born in May 2009 (or earlier) could have started school late, but still could not have played 2028 this past summer. If one did, that would fairly be called cheating. But the rules change again for 2028s this summer. The June 1 cutoff doesn’t apply going forward.

We are talking about kids in NY and ONLY NY. The kids that have played 2028 their whole lives then repeat 8th grade and become 29’s of VARIOUS birthdays. Same with 27’s that reclass to 28’s of VARIOUS birthdays outside of your groupings. They are cheating. The kids reclassing are ruining the sport. If you can’t see that I feel bad for you but most likely you are a reclass Dad.

well said. definitely agree about ruining the sport. But hey, go get that low level D1 scholarship, and enjoy working that M-F 9 to 5 job that we all end up working anyway. But hey, you did it so you and your kid can look like all americans. Bravo!

I seriously doubt a parent is thinking about club/travel lacrosse at 5 years old. with. If that is the case then it is the most insane thing I have heard in a long time. Those kids probably grow up and become musicians.

Are we really blaming the players and parents? I think this is an institutional issue, which stems from USA Lacrosse's inability to properly govern the sport. Parents are merely reacting to what has been created. We should be knocking down the door to the buildings in Sparks with a Jan 6th like protest. Until the rules are enforced families will continue to cheat the system.

No one agrees with you reclass Dad. If they did the entire 91/Express teams would be reclassing rather than just a handful of kids. Reason why they don’t is everyone else thinks it is nuts!

Truth is most kids that reclass are very good players and could go on to play at the college level if they stay where they belong. The issue is that just going to college and playing is not good enough and many want an edge to try and get to a higher level. Some knucklehead earlier said now his kid is looking at ACC schools. This is the parenting issue and those who reclass their kids are manipulating a broken system for their advantage. Some kids may get to a higher level but at the end of the day all the kids will mature and grow and then their advantage is gone. However an older 14year old who has gone through puberty has a major advantage during these years.

There are no rules against reclassing, so how could rules have been broken? The only rule I have seen broken is 2027’s playing as 2028’s.

Age restrictions were only implemented for the 2029 class and below.

I’m not saying I agree with the statement above it just so happens to be the current scenario that the 2028 class is dealing with.

Unless your kid was born November/ December 2009 or had a developmental delay they should be playing with the 2027’s.

I have a 2029 and I’m thinking of reclassing as my son hasn’t hit puberty. Where does one begin the process? He was born in May of 2011. Any help would be appreciated.

You do realize that they are older because after high school they play junior hockey prior going to college. Completely different than repeating 8th grade. Ignorance is bliss.

Stop with the attempts at justification. If you reclassed your kid just admit the reason. Just spit it out. You did nothing illegal. You did nothing against the rules. You did it because it is allowed and your kid is not standing out on age or is small or a combination of both. You did it with good intentions for your kids future. Most think it’s unfair. Own it.

That is a mountain holdback apologists are not willing to climb. Much easier to stay at bottom and make excuses.

my son showed me this Long Island Lacrosse Journal players to watch article. Thought it was cool that he was included until i noticed that it looked like EVERY 2028 was included lol

Reclass topic-the 2026 standout d from express (EB). Going to UVA, great accomplishment. But, he's supposed to be 2025. If he's #1 pole in 26, where would he have been had he stayed where he belonged? Assuming UVA wouldn't have been an option? What happens when he goes to college and plays kids at age, where he's supposed to be? Or am i missing something. Rumor is the parents are doing it with the other kid, but he's nowhere close to the older brothers ability.

Did LILJ just put everyone on the list that had paid for something from them in the past? Thats the biggest scam and joke in Long Island Lacrosse. Just pay them, you’ll make the list. Be selective at least. Some of those kids are very good and should be grouped separate from the rest.

You should not be able to pay for something called a "All LI Games" or pay to be recognized. The number of kids listed is a complete joke and many kids who have never done any LILJ events are not included.
