You've detailed a system of deep rooted favoritism, nepotism, and "money grabs." But honestly, what's your actual plan? In recruiting year, your kid is going to just enter the scene for the first time and be considered a top recruit despite there already being girls firmly planted in that system?

I'll agree that good money is spent on training, but the people who are sending their kids to all of these other things- they're also training. I can't really see the disadvantage of keeping a loose affiliation those that you are calling "money grabbers." If you spent no money on anyone who is trying to profit off of your child's lacrosse- your child would be playing no lacrosse.

Since this seems a somewhat normal response I will respond based on my experiences.

I found Coach Renee Lopez Book and Facebook group on college recruiting extremely helpful. I’m not her and don’t profit from the purchase of her book. This is what helped my daughter get recruited mid-level D 1 school

She advises to start lightly in 9th grade. She recommends picking 5-8 schools, get film and start sending out emails. She feels anything before that is a waste of time because coaches are not looking at 7th and 8th grade girls. They aren’t looking at 9th graders either but it’s to kind of get your feet wet They want to fill their recruiting classes so they are looking at 10th and 11th graders. 10th and 11th is really where you need to work your @ChillLaxin if with constant emails etc.

She recommends writing hand written notes to thank coaches for their time. She goes over what a generic prospect day invite is and which one is where a coach is interested. She says coaches don’t care what club you pay for. They just care how you look on films and watching you live (in 10th or 11th).

In the end I would never criticize how people spend their money. But if if you think playing in the all Long Island games in 6th or 7th grade will help “build your resume” it’s just not true. College coaches will not care that your were selected to the all Long Island games in 7th grade.

If you wanted to argue these things matter before the rule changes (kids could commit in 7th and 8th) then I would say you have a fair point. I had my oldest son do some of these “showcases” in 7th and 8th grade. Once he started the recruiting process I realized it was a waste of money for recruiting purposes

I would argue that being an early favorite has a lot of merit, especially when part of a high performing team. When Notre Dame calls Carol Rose and says “Do you have a good attack you can send my way” or when Hofstra is pulling from Top Guns- your affiliation will indeed matter. The advent of social media adds one part “publicity” to this recipe. Enter Wink.

I don’t think the guy who said 7th grade work counts as resume bullets meant that colleges care about your participation in 7th grade as much as he meant that these are stepping stones for future accolades.

I agree with some of these points but disagree with others. If you are on a top team it’s because you are a great player. And yes if you are on the top yellow jacket team you will get a ton more exposure to great events than say lax on elite.

However, all the social media exposure in the world(wink) will not have any bearing on whether a college coach makes you an offer. If you are a highly touted recruit it’s because you are a great player. Not because wink chose you for the all Long Island games. Top tier teams and mid level teams aren’t looking at the LILJ instagram. And also keep in mind the college coaches at these events for younger grades are being paid to be there. The assistants salary at even top schools can range in the 60-80k range They attend these events to supplement their income. Not so they can get a look at 8th graders.

Bottom line is that a college coach strictly makes a decision based on film, watching you live, and their needs for your recruiting class. That’s it

The season holds - based off of the tourney schedules released, playing weak teams in the weaker divisions of the tourney. Avoiding too divisions as per usual

While I don't speak this language, I can decipher enough to tell you that bracket pools aren't chosen by the individual teams. The AGD at USCL accounts for this. From what I'm seeing historically in YJ 2029A's matchups, it appears as though they've always been in the thick of it with the highest brackets of the best tournaments. And when they're in the (barely) lesser pool within those brackets this seems to resolve itself when the winners of each pool face one another in playoffs. Old comments here criticize some of the other top teams for staying home while the big players duke it out in MD and DE. I think that's a little more accurate- historically at least. But I'm not sure. I don't follow this team in real time.

I don’t think it matters anymore. Roar has proved itself. It’s a great team. The girls will be highly sought after. The 91 girls program is a disruptor to the Long Island lax scene. Pure capitalism. They are offering a better product at a lower price and people are taking notice. It took a few years. Now what will be interesting is if they can translate that into a sustainable business model and not lose their core values. YJ will always have top girls but it’s nice to have options as a parent.

Both programs are great in our year. For 91, 2029 is an anomaly. Also, there's nobody choosing either team based on the price, nor does anyone even know the true price until they've signed their name on the dotted line. Those teams choose you and you fall in.

In the history of lacrosse, nobody has ever taken notice of 91 being a lower price than anyone else. I don't even think that this is true, let alone something someone would take notice of.

The garbage talking between YJ and 91 dads is entertaining. Both are great teams. My guess is 91 beats YJ by a slim margin. Really depends on what girls show up that day for YJ while 91 has a deeper team. Surprising how poorly TG is doing. Lax for the Cure will be a great weekend of lacrosse.

What happened to the USCL roster verifications and "birth year" requirements that USCL had implemented? Did they cancel that?

You got us there, as YJ A is highest placed LI team for LLL. But the point being made is that YJ A should be in the top pool with the top teams like Hero’s Green, NXT, etc.

Also look forward to L4tC and notice again that YJ A is not in the top pool but the other two LI teams are.

Individual YJ teams have no voice in the tournament pools they are put in. I'm sure some are done intentionally by directors, but others are absolutely luck of the draw. My older daughter was a YJ and at occasional times being in a lower pool was a major DISADVANTAGE because the team was expected to perform with a higher gap between their and their opponent's score in order to remain highly ranked. If the other team you're talking about is Top Guns (For being in the Lax 4 the cure highest bracket) then with them you are seeing the opposite affect. The only reason they remain relevant at this point with a 7-5 record is because they register in high pools. For the first time, 91 can talk smack about being registered in tournaments. We had years of them playing in nonsense local tournaments while everyone else was on the GW Bridge. It's nice to see them put themselves out there this year, but there's a pot and a kettle there fella.

You are giving 91 too much credit. Here’s their weekend lineup:

BBL Black- 51st place
Xtreme- 40th
Jesters- 33rd
3D Garden State- 36th

They’re at a low tier NXT event. Even NXT isn’t at that event.

Monster: 7th place
Salt City Snipers: 42nd place

Strong choice of tournaments.

I think the point of the guy who posted the rankings of 91 and TG competition for this weekend is to tell YOU that you shouldn't talk when you criticized his kid's placement in a tournament. And now you're hitting him with the "I know you are but what I am" response. Corney

91 schedule strengthrating for the entire year is close to that of #1 ranked heroes, whereas YJ has the weakest schedule rating than anyone in the top 15 and that weak schedule continues to trend in the same direction the next few tournaments. I'm sure if the can make playoffs in a few tourneys, that will help their schedule debacle a little.
TG also has a strong schedule rating for the year.

Incorrect. Current opponent average strength is 90.64. The scheduled opponents through June average to 94.
But don’t let facts get in the way of a smear campaign.

TG made playoffs winning only 1 of 4 games in a tough bracket
YJ made playoffs playing absolutely no one and beating no one by 1 goal to get there. Lost to heroes 6-1 in a short playoff game
MD pretty much ran the show as per usual vs LI as
Championship game was Heroes vs M&D

TG played well against the MD teams. In regular play the game against Coppermine was back and forth eventually losing 9-6. When they played against MD black they were winning at half time 3-1 and eventually losing 6-4. They tied heroes 5-5. They got revenge on Coppermine by beating them in the quarters. They lost to Heroes 4-3 in overtime in the semis via braveheart.

I'm not a YJ parent, but I think that losing to the top team in the country is one that any team can psychologically resolve pretty quickly. Being the number 2 team in the country and losing to three out of four teams you've played, not making the playoffs, and not covering your expected goal differential in more than 50% of the games you've played this year...that one is a bit harder to resolve. It'll sting a bit more when you see next week's rankings. Perhaps today would have been the day for you to take a break from this website and be a bit humble.

Remember to check your work before hitting submit. The "I meant to say.." post is going to be cringey. But we get it. You were put in too hard of a bracket. It should be adjusted for you for the next tournament.

Nice to see Top Guns do well. We 91 had some girls leave for them and wished them well. We see that they are making an impact there and are happy for them.
Both teams were in the top pool are there were no easy games. Our games against M&D and Heros could have went either way.
Girls will be ready for more top competition at Summer Genesis.
