You can have a kid double rostered.
But if you have a varsity kid play in a JV game, you become ineligible for the jv playoffs.
Also, if your kid gets pulled up for a varsity playoff game, that counts as being a “varsity athlete,” per the transfer rules/penalties. Must play in a varsity game not just be rostered to impact transfer rules.

VI. MIGRATION BETWEEN SQUAD LEVELS
Unless specifically stipulated otherwise by the Sports Committee Chairman, in any given season once a student has played in a league game on a higher squad level, the student may not play in league games at a lower level. Squad level migration requests must be made in writing to the Sport Committee Chairperson prior to this migration. Requests must indicate the reasons for the migration and the names and positions of the players to be considered.
Regardless of the league status of an athletic competition, a student may not participate in two squad levels of the same sport in the same day.
The league will establish a date for final rosters.

You can be “rostered” on varsity and play down at any time if you haven’t played in a varsity game yet.
So the kids on the bottom of the bench can play JV, until they see time in a varsity game. Some teams do it. Mostly teams with really large varsity rosters, to get those bench kids some runs.
The problem is, it puts off and staggers the development. Those bottom-rung juniors generally are the ones who get jv minutes at the expense of the underclassmen on the jv team..
There simply aren’t enough game minutes for kids when a program has more than 70-80 kids in their lax program.

MIAA rules are only for schools that go by them. Meaning...not much in rules as all get broken for various things. The rare double holdback is looked other way unless best player .. In the know

Having 120 kids in the program is great if you have 4-5 teams. It’s a waste when you have 50 kids on varsity and maybe 25 see the field.

MIAA teams took a beaten today at NHLS You are the only one who cares about a glorified playday with incomplete teams. See you in March.

It's obviously fall. The Dons always do well in the fall and then tank in the spring.

It's obviously fall. The Dons always do well in the fall and then tank in the spring. They will have a new coach next year. We'll see if then the Dons and other teams can keep up with the Baltimore "Boarding Schools" The boarding schools may want to consider going the way of St. Francis at some point.

Wow, that was a huge roster at Loyola for only 2026 The coach invited any 9th graders who wanted to try out for lacrosse in the Spring to sign up for NHSLS. There were a lot of kids that barely played on Saturday...especially in the last game against McDonogh. This will get sorted out after try outs.

Then why invite them out and have them pay if you are not going to play them? There was no championship involved. That's weak on the coach's part.

Loyola will be back in the Spring. They’re one of the deepest programs in the A Conference. Look for them to compete for championships at all three levels. They went 3-0 at the NHSLS and beat a great Taft squad. Balanced scoring and great team D.

No taking anything away from Loyola but Taft didn’t look that great. They also got blown out by Bullis the following day. Any chance they didn’t have their full team?

Loyola knows this but hey, let them keep celebrating their mediocrity.

Difference in their win over Mcdonogh was goaltending and defense.

My son is a freshman. Class is real weak. There are 4-5 strong players in the StP 2026 class, and another 4-5 who can be with work. The JV had two practices, and anyone who plays a Winter sport missed them, so the team played with very little time together. Some teams did well, and you could tell the ones who had been practicing and the ones who hadn't. Not an indicator of any school's future, and it was Fall NHSLS, so your mileage may vary.

Nope, Loyola probably has the best 10 starters this year in MIAA and a dozen bench players that could start on many MIAA teams. They will be the team to beat this year based on NHSLS and talent.
