It effects 8 teams in Nassau county out of 50- 60 teams. Not a big deal... Unless you are a player on one of those 8 teams----some football teams have close to 20 lacrosse kids on the team. --GC, Mac for certain. Tough 10 days----hard for lacrosse coaches to prepare for first games when some key guys are going to football 2 hours a day and have a championship game this coming Saturday. Hard for football coaches too---knowing that after football practice kids are then going to lacrosse practice---schedule in Nassau is not ideal.

GC, Manhasset and Massapequa kids play all year and will be fine. Wantagh, oceanside, North shore are the next level and will get by and be fine. Macarthur and Plainedge are non events in the lax world(no offense to anyone but look at past history). The kids will all be fine. Just happy to have a lacrosse season.

The Face-off allows for comebacks that would otherwise not be possible in a "lost's out" format. Basketball is the most commonly cited example, but the 24 second shot clock and higher likelihood of turnovers (smaller space to run, dribbling rules) make it a poor comparison. Lacrosse would end up looking more like soccer, just with teams just killing a long shot clock. Four goals down with 5 minutes to go would be game over. Not so with the Face-off, where a guy can get hot and turn the tide quickly. Look at the Duke/ND game last week as a perfect example of an exciting (even though I was rooting for ND) outcome that would otherwise not be possible.
The original post cited "going early" as cheating. That is not cheating, that is poor refereeing, and not a hard call to get right. Sometimes it is hard to see if a kid is sneaking his hand up the plastic or pulling off a quick hook/hold that is too fast for the eye to see in real time. But Face-off kids do not cheat anywhere close to where the game was 20 years ago, and refs are generally pretty good at catching on if a kid is pulling stunts. Kids are taught to learn and train tight to the rules so they can compete in a well refereed game. If the ref is missing stuff, it is up to the coach and/or the FOGO to point it out.
Finally - for the complaining because a dominant FOGO can change an outcome - how is that any different than a dominant goalie? Ban the goalie? The game would sure be faster.

One practice versus 10 practices. These boys don't care. This is only a parent issue. The kids are playing and they would do so with no practice. At the end of the day football was squeezed in and so was lacrosse. That's all that matters at this point!

Can't understand why Nassau would make a schedule that overlaps football playoffs with lacrosse. People on here complain about everything. It is truly incredible. They should have just canceled the season

There are school districts that don't have 20 lacrosse players period. Don't even have 5 players that are still playing lacrosse in High School. Your complaining about getting 20 lacrosse players a little late who are already in shape from football and are probably still playing club lacrosse anyway. detest to have been your parents when you didn't get what you asked for immediately.

Quick question on Faceoffs. Are you allowed to take faceoffs in high school games on one knee and use any grip?

Nassau split into League 1 and League 2 based on previous strength. Most schedules based on past years school conferences. Will be tough for middle of the pack teams to make playoffs. I do not know the rationale, I just know that's the way it is this year.

Can anyone explain how the teams in Nassau were split into 2 leagues. Also our coach spoke of a power conference but do not know who a part of that. Some of the traditional programs have rough schedule while others do not. Section 8 website is not updated or user friendly and Nassau BOCES site links to Sportspak schedules.

Tthey took the top 25 or so teams in nassau and put them in two conferences based on school size( one div has the likes of GC, Mass, syosset, etc the other CSH, Manhasset, Wantagh, etc). Each conference has one crossover( Manhasset's crossover is GC and vice versa). I believe the playoffs will be broken up by traditional, Class A, B and C. The other 25 -30 teams play each other in there own conferences so they can have competitive games.

So even though the conference 1 has 5-A's, 8/9-B's and a ton of Cs, afterr they play those games they will re-seed for Conference A,B and C playoffs. Good thing is there are really no "bad games" for either conference 1 or 2.

I suspect the Chaminade Dad has come to realize SJB is not a great barometer for how great your team is state wide. No one from St. Dom's was nominating their team for inclusion in the rankings following their win against them. Stay in your lane and remember there is always someone bigger and badder out there...just because you are unaware of them doesn't mean they don't exist...
