In the Long Island Championship Boys Class C Final, Shoreham-Wading River leads Friends Academy, 3-1, after the first period.
As some folks have noted, many of the games leading to the Long Island Championships this year were not true nail-biters. If you think that Long Island has seen more blowouts than usual, check out these next round opponents in the NYSPHSAA Tournament.
Niskayuna leads Cornwall, 15-0, at halftime in their Class B event.
The Class C quarterfinal sees Bronxville leading Red Hook, 19-1, with less than 8:00 remaining in the match.

Scoring Updates, 8:00pm
Class A : Ward Melville leads Massapequa at halftime, 5-0. Massapequa has turned the ball over on several occasions and has hit the pipe at least once that we have seen. Nemirov has been one of the top individual stories in this match so far. Ward Melville's defensive zone and their offensive zone passing have completely dominated Massapequa from a control perspective.
In another key state-wide Class A quarterfinal match, West Genesee, down 6-4 at halftime, now leads over Ithaca, 8-6, with one minute remaining in the third quarter.
Shenendehowa defeats Minisink, 15-9, and will face the winner of Ward Melville/Massapequa on June 5th.

Ward Melville's solid passing and exceptional goalkeeping (second goal by Massapequa was scored with five minutes left in the match) led to an impressive victory over the Chiefs. Ward Melville clearly has sent a message in their bid for the state crown in Class A. Ward Melville's head coach, Mike Hoppe, has done a great job guiding this very talented group this season - their first crown in thirteen years.

Scoring Update
In the Class A Championship, the Ward Melville Patriots have now opened a 15-3 lead against West Genesee with 3:00 remaining in the second quarter. There is a running clock now in place which has several reporters wondering when was the last time we saw that in the Championship Match ... or AGAINST West Genesee. In summary, the dominance that the Patriots have shown in Suffolk is on display for the state this afternoon.

It's a shame that Chaminade and St A's can't participate in the State HS tournament with the publics. The last game between Chaminade and St A's seems like ancient history while this great tournament continues on. I believe they do mix public and private in Jersey for a "true" state champion. How awesome would that be for the New [lacrosse] State tourney? One can only hope one day.

UA tryouts were well run and lots of great action. For once, it was nice to just sit back and enjoy watching the games and the boys play without having to worry about scores, what teams you were playing next, playoffs, etc. The boys on his team did a great job bonding and dividing up the playing time themselves. By the end of day one, they were calling each other's names on the field instead of just pinnie numbers. Overall, a great group of young men on the field from all the teams. We will definately do this again next year.

It's called the Federation championship. It's done in basketball. Maybe its a issue regarding graduation dates. St. Anthony's had graduation last week.... It's a shame that Chaminade and St A's can't participate in ithe State HS tournament with the publics. The last game between Chaminade and St A's seems like ancient history while this great tournament continues on. I believe they do mix public and private in Jersey for a "true" state champion. How awesome would that be for the New [lacrosse] State tourney? One can only hope one day. Not just basketball but lax too. Ridge beat Don Bosco by 1 goal in the final. How fun would it be to see Ward Melville play Chaminade for the "real" state Championship. They should think about about a +1 to get the Catholic schools involved. If Jersey can do it so can NY!

I disagree - total waste of time. I thought it was nothing but a huge money grab. Literally hundreds of kids of all different abilities - many looking like non-starters on JV. This really should be invite only or a two step process where there are tryouts to make the real tryout. Like the Nassau/Suffolk showcase. There were way too many kids on each team for such short games on only two fields. Coaches on the sidelines were basically gone midway through the night. At best some kids were seeing 1/2 or less than half a game depending on how many at each position. My son played on a team with 7 attack - tell me how that works equitabily in 20 minutes of time. Unless they change the format and make it more exclusive, my son won't do it again or we'll go to another region like New England.
