With an enrollment deadline approaching and a lack of certainty around whether university guidelines would allow the team to practice — much less travel, host teams and play games — multiple players and parents of players on the team tell Inside Lacrosse that about 40 members of Yale’s men’s lacrosse team decided not to enroll for this semester, leaving about eight players enrolled.
As a result, it is expected that Yale will forgo the 2021 season.
The news comes in the wake of recent news, including an update to spring sport athletes from the Ivy League on Jan. 15 and face-off specialist TD Ierlan’s entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The 2021 season got underway with a pair of DI men’s games on Saturday, and the status of the Ivy League has been a focal point given the league’s teams’ success last season. Still, clarity and certainty remain in short supply surrounding the other six members of the men’s lacrosse league, as well as the women’s lacrosse and other spring sport athletes.
