Wwwwrrrrroooonnnnggg numb nuts! My son had the option as a tenth grader this year and he didn't want to do it and I agreed. I'm not living through my kids like the rest of you stunands! Sounds like someone is upset that his kid wasn't up to the challenge, for whatever reason. Perhaps that reason is you. You're quick to go on the offensive with words like "numb nuts" and "stunad" if someone disagrees with you. My guess is that your son might have confidence issues. Nice job, bitter Helicopter Dad

Yes, college coach will be interested in the high school team. But your main exposure will be club and prospect days. Need to be on best club team possible. Pick colleges that are good fit and go to prospect day. Also, good showcases, including Long Island Showcase, assuming on the Island, should be in mix. Being on the best club team is a complete and utter falsehood. You need good coaching and to play. Not true. While coaching matters and definitely need to play, if you are not at good events, there is no one there to see. So best club team possible should have coaching, playing time and exposure. Remember, original poster is on bad HS team, so exposure and play against top teams matter. A good club can help fill the void. If you have a good HS program, club team may not matter at all. You have to play HS if you want to play at the next level in college. Even if the program is not very good, the college coaches will want to know you are a team player and, in this case, a team leader since your son is likely one of the best players. Also, just having the stick in your hands 6 days a week is invaluable vs. 1 or 2 days a week for club practice which, at this age, is very unlikely. Be a big fish in a small pond and let your son gain some confidence as a leader off the field.

No need to try to get into DUKE to play lacrosse.

HIGH SCHOOL LACROSSE IS OVER SAD TOO SAY FOR THIS YEAR My son made varsity in 9th grade, what does he do now? HIGH SCHOOL LACROSSE IS OVER SAD TOO SAY FOR THIS YEAR My son made varsity in 9th grade, what does he do now? He thanks his lucky stars that whatever happens this year he has three more years of high school lacrosse. He thanks God that he does not own a small business, restaurant or bar right now. He is grateful that he doesn’t sell cars or suits or wash dishes, drive a cab, work a register or do any of the myriad jobs that will be permanently lost even after this public health emergency is over. He can hope he has parents who will tell him that in the grand scheme of things his perceived tragedy of a lost season of high school lacrosse is beyond meaningless. And, most of all, he can give thanks for all the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who are risking their lives and doing everything they can to take care of the sick and keep our system afloat. x 1000

If this will end the rest of the yr will clubs do the right thing and give part of tuition back to the paying families?
Time for the clubs to step!

Time for the clubs to step! It is supplementary income for most of the directors so they should but, to be sure, why don't you ask your director and report back to us?

I will give it some time, not total doom and gloom.......yet.

Club directors won't give back anything. They need money just like everyone else. SOme may opt to apply some towards next years dues but don't expect refunds.

The thing that should be considered perhaps by clubs is that some families incomes are likely different and work with them. Maybe stay locally in the Tristate vs going to Maryland, etc.

Even if a few locations have the courage/foolishness to reopen school, they will almost certainly do so with restrictions to ensure they are seen as "doing something". That will include cancelling sports. And for the Summer tournaments, if I had to bet I would say they will be few and far between. Even if clubs are willing to participate, it is going to be hard for the tournaments to obtain insurance coverage. No one will want to take the risk when the liability risk is unknown.

Will be interesting with recruiting. For the juniors, this spring high school season is important but the summer club circuit is the last big push to make something happen. Lots of kids get picked up over the summer before senior year. Tough to get seen, though, if high school season goes away and summer events are also canceled or cut way back. Hopefully there will be some meaningful play this summer.
There is also the uncertainty of what the NCAA is going to do with additional eligibility for kids whose college seasons were canceled. Do they give just seniors another year? Do all players get another year? If so, what does that do to recruiting of current high school players? High school seniors are also likely to miss their season and then join college teams where the whole playing time dynamic could be seriously impacted by the granting of additional eligibility to older players. If it were just a canceled high school season it would be one thing; but this is challenging on many levels....

Yup, that is a big issue. On top of that, the venues need to approve use of their fields. Not likely. Even college prospect days will be an issue. Colleges are moving graduations to July, will they have dorm space/field space available for lax if they are needed for rescheduled events? Who knows when HS graduations will happen, if they happen. Very tough issues ahead. It might be time to move sights to football season......I truly hope not.

It is us. Our son, our family. Kids succeed because of a supportive family culture. My son is a senior headed to a big program next year, so yes lax was the golden ticket getting him into a school he would never have gotten into without. We (parents, siblings, and son) were exited to experience senior year and all that goes along with it. We are still hopeful that some games might be played. Otherwise we will look forward to the next level. Too bad you're such a nasty hammerhead.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but it would appear the states of Arizona, Alabama, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Virginia and Vermont are done for the school year. Like it or not this is for the best and all states should do the same and we would have a better chance of hitting the fields this summer or fall.

Why bash someone who son made it to a big program ... Congratulations to him ... for this person bashing it there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow it is called a great education , friends he will have made for the rest of his life and fantastic memories that he will always be able to look back on and a work ethic that all companies are looking for . CONGRATULATIONS 1st my son is in middle school . 2nd how do you know so much with life after D1 big program college . Did someone tell you that all the good positive things ? I know a ton of guys that went to big program schools and have no jobs . Do $50 lacrosse clinics . I asked them what did you do all 4 years they laugh and say play lacrosse . Playing at a high level D1 program and academics is very difficult. Playing D1 program is a Full Time Job. You think the head coach cares about your career. NO . Just a Reality check that some of you cant handle and stop being so softed with my comments because if you kid is like you well good luck in the real world ! OUT

Those states typically end school much earlier than NY. So this is hope, slim but hope.

Just a Reality check that some of you cant handle and stop being so softed with my comments because if you kid is like you well good luck in the real world ! OUT Where does one begin with you. Well I'll take a stab at it. It's obvious, highly recommended, once school re-opens, You rush, be first in line, to enroll in your child's middle school; 4:1 teacher ratio. Thinking about it, You may be too far gone. And please, don't populate this world with anymore of Your offspring, I cringe to imagine you have more than one child. Secondly, You most likely have 2 to 3 labor intensive jobs, which requires using a small amount of your tiny cerebrum (part of your brain). Relatively speaking, a middle school child who plays lacrosse for his school team also has to maintain his/her academics in order to qualify to play (relatively, it's two full time jobs, on a child's level). Most likely, Your kid can't handle the pair. Finally, stay away from the keyboard, to prevent further embarrassment, let alone, announcing to the world how you are failing as a parent. Any good parent wants the best for their child. Thank you, be safe
