Curious how this Spalding Takeover is going to go with zero of their players on the Baltimore UA rosters. Seems like a tough start for the boys from Glen Burnie.

With personalities like this in Annnapolis it is no wonder some kids in the last two classes have chosen to drive up the road. I’m actually convinced all the Spalding bashing and bragging here is being done from the girls lunch table down there. Glen Burnie wouldn’t have you bro, you’re too trashy.

Spalding stuff is too much both ways. You guys need to cool it. Let's be real here. No AA County boy grows up dreaming of going "up the road" to play for Spalding. And no player makes that choice because of "personalities" or anonymous message board posts. The reality is that boys end up at "New Cut" because either... 1. Over-compensating Dad got his feelings hurt when some other program didn't recognize his special genius Or 2. Well-intended, new to lacrosse family sold a bill of goods... lax bro coach, great facilities, whatever...
That's it.

The solution seems pretty simple. The evaluators should be chosen and then they should be sent to evaluate in a different area. For example, Baltimore evaluators go to DC and DC evaluators come to Baltimore. It is ridiculous to have evaluators whose own kids are trying out or even kids that the evaluator coaches. It is impossible for these guys to be subjective in those cases. This is actually a terrible idea. The evaluators are trying to choose the best players in the area to field the most competitive team to represent Baltimore. Players are chosen not only on the tryout but their overall body of work as they should be. Brendan Grimes had an ok tryout yesterday, imagine someone not knowing him and not selecting him. Even though he was one the best attackmen in the country and had a phenomenal spring season. That's why people who know the players select the team. Want to make the team? Then be consistently one of the best players in your region over the spring and summer, not just for a 2 day tryout. Hilarious. You reinforce what many are saying. That this isnt a tryout , the team is already picked with a few leftover spots. Being the best player for spring and summer is not a being the best at a tryout. That is why they call it a tryout..not the Allstar team made up of people in the know. Now if UA changes the name to Allstar team made up of people in the know , well no one can complain. Borderline Fraud? It sure didn't seem like the team would be pre-selected according to the online brochure. The families that paid $190 certainly felt if their son had a terrific tryout there may be a chance of making it. There were two kids that weren't even there and made it? Six Calvert hall kids?... Lacrosse season starting early a CH.

And the players on this team definitely do that! To a man they are some of the best players in their classes in the COUNTRY. Congrats to those on the team and best of luck as Baltimore lax fans who are not "haters", will be rooting for you all.

Read UA site. It isnt advertised as the " Best players anywhere in Balt with a chance to win". They say it is a tryout. You do know what a tryout is?? You show up to a field and an independent evaluators pick the best players on the field . Two days with a narrowing field of players should get you most of best players, probably miss a few too. Now if it is advertised as a Allstar team of best players in region that is great. I would expect the local coaches and people in know to get together and form a team. Forget the initial tryouts. Maybe even advertised as some positions available come try out for these remaining positions. At least that would be truthful. No UA acts like this is a real tryout ,which is complete BS. If they told truth they would get no where near the money they get from the fake tryouts now or exposure. Of course they get some really good if not some of better players by the process now. But its not a real tryout. I do like the fact they you get to come and play a bunch of games with different caliber players. And Baltimore is not alone in this process. Look at other region teams and coaches. Most regions have many players from the coaches HS/Club of either Command or Highlight team.

UA attracts a lot of the best players and its generally run well but the way the selectors are chosen at the very lest undermines their credibility. They have a long list of procedures listed including saying club coaches can't mention their own players but in actuality it doesn't appear those procedures are followed. In the South Command tryout, one of the coach's son didn't make the call back game. His father told his son to play in the call back game anyway and his son is on the final team. I think that if UA is going to market the tryout as a fair one including a list of procedures to avoid favoritism at the very least they should avoid daddyball coaching and selection.

FCA was in every championship at Crab Feast and won 2 out of 4 of them. Crabs were in only 1. Looks like there is a new king of the hill in Baltimore and he is going to Calvert Hall.

With players who should be headed to college campuses in the fall.

Whether it’s FCA, Looney’s, 91, etc, younger Crabs teams really struggled in HoCo. 2027s won 2 games in A league. No 2026 team that I can see (maybe played in the Kooper’s Saturday league). 2025 team was winless. 2024 team won 2 games. The 2022 and 2023s were better (5-2) but neither reached HOCO championship game. A lot of them seem to play in lesser tournaments and even the older better teams struggle when they play a strong team (as opposed to the patsies in pool play). Maybe NLF will show differently next weekend, but that’s not a strong pipeline to high school or for high schoolers any more. They can probably still put together an all star team of younger high schoolers, but not so strong in player development. quote=Popeye] FCA was in every championship at Crab Feast and won 2 out of 4 of them. Wait..reading these threads..Daddy ball still exists in High School???? The modern style Daddy Ball seems to be all about THE DAD, not the kid. If DAD doesn't get the proper respect at the school... If DAD is not given the head coach's ear even after writing big checks... Or if DAD's lacrosse genius is not recognized by the program... then young Johnny Laxalot will be moved on to a place where DAD can be the man. Sad.

Today's Democrat party is a cesspool of corruption and shady back room deals.

There's only so many fish in the sea..... Sorry but I'm right on this one...... SP has a hot young coach and an institutional desire to be good again. Loyola just conducted a national search for their new staff. Gilman is loaded with experienced upper classmen. CHC, BL and MCD are always loaded. That would be six and with Spalding overflowing with underclass talent, they're the next to crash the party.

For as much [ChillLaxin] talking that goes on here and other places they haven't even been competitive for the past 7-8 or maybe even EVER. All these schools have talent and recruit well. Somehow they know how to win and at the very least be competitive.

Spalding has been killing on the recruiting trail for the past 7 or 8 years. Their time will come. Spalding needs to win meaningful games on the field before they are even in the same sentence as traditional AA powers SM, Severn, and Severna Park. Based on results of the past few years Spalding is not even close, nor have they ever been. "Killing on the recruiting trail" and winning the hearts and minds of dads are nice but worthless without backing it up on the field. This is not rocket science. We have been hearing about Spalding's recruiting for the past three or four years and the dads have been promoting the program even longer. Time to show us something on the field.
