So Spalding is a top lacrosse high school now? Is this a joke? Or another pipe dream that when 2022 Hawks coach takes over Spalding program that they won’t stink?
May want to check your intell on where RR kids will be in HS. Plenty already at MIAA A conference schools and will stay there.

What a stunad. Maybe they are already at Miaa schools but they weren't recruited there. Look, I respect what you did the last 2 years. You played us better than anyone even the Long Island teams. You had 2 or 3 of the better players we faced. You just peaked and regressed it happens just like the API clowns. We keep getting better every day while you keep charging money and cancelling practices or only have half the team show up. It shows on the scoreboard. Why is that no Roughriders have ever shown up at a Hawks tryout? They would actually have to come to practice and give effort all the time. You have become a 2k per year rec program. Probably why several teams including hs folded[/quote]

Get your facts straight. They were recruited by MIAA schools when in the 7th and 8th grade and these are the top MIAA schools in Baltimore, not the Spalding's of the world. The only way your program is getting better is by loading up on holdbacks, the 2022 team is mostly a 2021 team, you know it and everyone else knows it. As to why no RR's try out for the Bird team, simply, they do not want to play for that program. Has nothing to do with practice, as you mentioned. RR practice plenty during the season. And where you get only half the team shows up for games is laughable, the entire team is there every game. Kids play other sports during off season, so to expect them to also practice lax in the off season will lead to a lot of burn out and kids just quit lax. The only thing that is showing up on the scoreboard this year is that the teams with the majority roster of holdbacks is winning, and Hawks 2022 is leading the way, followed closely by Koopers. Don't you think kids at this age know who the holdbacks are and who is playing where? Of course they do and they clearly now who the holdbacks are.
It is strange that it has been mentioned 2 or 3 times about a double holdback on Hawks 2022 team yet there has been no response to that. Wonder why? Probably because it is true. And after seeing how Ripley acts on the sidelines during games, no wonder RR players would never want to play for a ego driven person like him. Keep him in AA County, he would fall flat on his face anywhere else. I believe he play college lax at VMI. Now there is a strong program. Play RR without your holdbacks and it would be a different game.

Please stop all this ugliness. Kids read this. Please stop mentioning coaches and kids. These are peoples' family members. The things you are saying are not true. The kids don't say these things about each other. Why must the parents ruin everything? It is not your prerogative to talk about someone else's kid on here. Or a coach your kid has never had. Please stop.

I would assume he is better than the players at his position on JV

He is 21 and will age out of HS. Good news he will play 2023 next year.

nice try, maybe you should look at a roster and research the eligibility rules in the state of delaware before singling out a child

Please enough of the holdback stuff. I'm not a fan of it. My son plays on one of the better teams and he is on age. He's already a good player in the current situation, but would it be nice if he was being compared to his actual peers? Of course. But complaining on here isn't doing anything. And to the RR parents and any other parents you know darn well that your team has holdbacks also. So what is an acceptable amount in your eyes? Say Hawks have 8, Crabs has 6, FCA has 6, etc... Does the fact that RR only has 3 or 4 make it ok to you? Looneys probably has 7 or 8 and it doesn't make them a good team.

Every thread on this site gets overrun by holdback complaining. It is what it is. Move on.

If this is true, even if that player is eligible to play by his HS FState rules, it would appear he would not be eligible to play in HoCo as a result.

From the HoCo League rules:

The Conference follows a grade based system based on the player’s current grade level. Players who are participating in any high-school level program such as a high school freshman, JV-B, junior varsity, or varsity team is not eligible for the 8th grade division.

I agree it gets tiresome reading about the holdback stuff but look back a few pages and see how it started. Hawks fans came very close to trashing RoughRiders after beating them Friday night. When that happens people are going to respond, both fans and non fans of RoughRiders, simply because many know the truth about Hawks 2022. I also agree that every club has holdbacks, numbers are different for each team but to start saying a club is regressing is out of line, when you beat that team with a team loaded with holdbacks. Hawks fans start calling RR by a mock name and again come very close to trashing them. How can any team with some holdbacks compete with a team that has 12+ holdbacks on a roster of about 20 some kids? You can't, Hawks is in reality a 2021 team playing in the 2022 division. I wouldn't be surprised that some of these post are from the coach of Hawks 2022, it is not beyond him to act this way.
Holdbacks are not breaking the rules of the HOCO league, it is a grade base league and has been for several years. How it really started is anyone's guess, we have all heard the stories of how and why, so who knows the real truth? If you beat a team be happy for your win but don't come on here, an anonymous web site, and start the trash talk. That is out of line and uncalled for.
To answer your question, how many holdbacks are acceptable, to me the answer is none. I would prefer to see this go back to an age base league and at some point it could, given that early college recruiting has been moved up to the beginning of a players junior year in high school. This is the best move the NCAA could have done to put a stop to early recruiting and hopefully in will trickle down to the HOCO league to revert back to age base leagues.

Agree, glad they stopped early commits but they will find a way to recruit or get in their ear.

You are hung up on advantage, it's talent.! My kid is within 6 months of 90% of kids out there. So why they hang up , you just whine, whine, whine about advantage which has nothing to do with age but all about talent.

It would be like me coming on here and saying all you sept, Oct birthday's should have to start early because of some stupid rule all your kids are 10 months older than my kid.

You feel it's ok to attack people who did prek 10 years ago and think that everyone motive was youth lacrosse? Who cares no advantage . It will never be perfect but you seem to think like a kid and say 8 months or a year makes a difference. Not for most kids, if your kid is 5ft tall and on age he is going to have trouble in basketball right? Even if the kid he is playing is 14 months younger but 5'9 and athletic.

Wait but i see plenty of on age kids in basketball excel while being the smallest kid by far... oh wait.. they have talent. So please spare me the advantage.

You want to call out double hold backs of parents who kid repeats 8th to gain advantage at high school level well a little different then but still why complain on here not changing anything.

HoCo is not clear here. They say the league follows a system based on the player's current grade level. He is an 8th grader in an eighth grade club league. Then they say if he participates on a HS team he is ineligible. I am sure Howard County did not take into account that other states allow middle school kids to play on high school teams. In a league full of holdbacks, the kid should be applauded for playing up in HS.

Don't applaud too much. Not like the kid is the age of a normal 8th grader.

Very interesting day in HOCO:
Madlax over Hawks by 3
Team 91 - 9 API - 6
Crabs - 14 FCA - 6
Koopers - 11 DCE - 6

Guess Hawks isn't invincible. Too bad anonymous folks cant trash talk the Hawks parents on here.lol

What was score of Madlax and hawks?
Api was up 4 -0 early looks like the faltered late

Crabs/Fca was a one goal game at half 5-4 crabs.
DCE has played the toughest schedule.. all the big guns and lost a few in OT and all were close games... schedule makers did them no favors.

HOCO was very good this year. A lot of very good lacrosse. Hawks on top again-too much depth at every position-however they can be beat. Best team and definitely the team to beat this summer. Mad Lax very well coached and team seemed to have it together this year. Kooper team really fun to watch and very talented at a few spots on the field. Kids can take over a game-but lack depth and stability it seemed at the end. FCA and Crabs will both be tough to face in these upcoming summer tournaments as well as Rough Riders. 91 has very talented squad just need consistent play.
Summer should be fun ! BYE BYE middle school lacrosse -
All these teams have exceptional coaching . Wether you like them or not it is pretty remarkable the level of coaching.

Crabfeast Naptown are the 2 best competition. Adrenaline is more for older teams. Millons weaker competition this year. NLF will be solid this year but still missing a lot of the top teams.

How many 2022 kids trying out UA teams next? What are the chances of a 22 kid making it or is this year a learning experience?

I would think that a lot are trying out and very few make it. Last year had a friend's son who is a very strong 21 go out and not make it. This year same kid should be in with no problem. Once you start playing high school your game should pick up with all the practice.

Very difficult as you are going against 2021. And in Balt that means they will be many older 2021's.
And my experience as with many others is that the tryouts are really for only a few spots per position.
If you look at many UA teams, they loaded with players that the coaches know from school, club or other buddy coaches. Not that they arent good players too, but once you get past the very few superstars, its about who you know.

I think the chances are great for a lot of the coach's kids and club team owner's kids. That's usually the way these all star teams work out.

If you are in Baltimore and your kid plays for FCA or is going to Calvert Hall or BL he might have a shot. Take a look at the previous years’ rosters and you will easily figure out how things roll with Corrigan. Hacking said that - every D1 coach will be there for the tryout - so might be worth it if he can make it to the callback game.

Agreed, and like the previous poster said - unless you are a coaches kid or club directors kid you will have long shot. Half the 2022 top teams in MD are run by dads and every Try out for any ALL Star type team has always been unfair. These dad/coaches have their favorites and thats that. Add the fact that Corrigan is a huge BL ,Calvert , Pauls, Mcdonogh guy the odds are stacked against you - 2021's playing in this game should be 2020 so any true 2022 that is not in the favoritism has a long shot.
This should be a fair and level playing field for this try out but unfortunately it will not be.

And this isnt only a Baltimore thing about making the team on who you know in the UA tryouts. Many other Regions are just like this. A parent from the South UA team said the team was loaded with kids that the coaches knew from school , club or other coaches players they knew. I help your school/club player out and I expect you to help my school/club player out rule.

If you think the tryout fee is worth playing in a few games, go for it. But unless you have some in with the coaches , your chances of making the team are slim to none short of being some superstar outlier.
