What does it say about a team if they pulled up 3 8th graders to Varsity?

It means the three 8th graders are as good if not better than the rest of the Varsity squad including your daughter..

That those 8th graders are good players or the coach wants them to practice with Varsity because they are their up and coming.

In any school, every once in a while an athlete comes along and this practice is certainly justified. If it occurs once every few years or so, that sounds about right. Three in the same year is definitely not a case of a rare athelete coming along once in a while. What district?

I'm my kids school district they have only had one 8 grader ever on Varsity and she was an All American by her junior year.

Do you know how playoff work? CP is D so they play nobody good in playoffs or all season basically. Their season is kinda of a joke for Nassau lax so please stop.

or one of their dad's is the JV coach, Can you say nepotism? Maybe it wouldn't look so bad if he was there a long time. It's his first year at HS and they pushed kid and friends up. A little quid pro quo?

My perception of you is that you are a loser who has a kid about to be replaced by an 8th grader.

The majority of HS teams on The Island are extremely weak. Maybe the team needs bodies.

The majority of HS coaches are also extremely weak. Maybe the coach simply has no clue.

Very few 8th grade girls are ready to play at the varsity level on a quality team. Is it a strong team?

Few if any 8th grade girls are ready to compete against the stronger teams.

That said, I agree with an earlier post that stated "it depends on what town you are from". Very unlikely that we are talking about a top program. If it is a weak program and the girls are strong athletes maybe it makes sense but it is still a bit of a stretch. Personally, I do not think it is a good idea. Does anyone really think it is smart to have 13-14 year olds hanging out with 18 year olds?

More than likely it is a combination of reasons. IMHO it is foolish.

It truly depends upon the district. Sometimes it's because they don't have enough bodies and the need to fill the roster. Sometimes it's because the kid is good enough to play with girls that are four years older. If it's three kids my guess is it's to fill out the roster

7th and 8th grade girls should play middle school ball. If they are exceptional, then they should be brought up to JV. I have yet to see a middle school girl being brought up to Varsity do anything other than create a tense and divisive sideline. There may have been one somewhere that contributed on the field, but its the exception rather than the rule. A great 7th or 8th grader generally does not have the confidence, skill or physical attributes to compete on a varsity team. These are just my observations, and I'm sure all of you with superstar middle school girls will disagree.

Yes there are some great 7th and 8th graders that can be bought up and play with the varsity girls. IMO start them in JV and if they are holding their own they should be given the chance to play varsity. BTW - They have to pass physical and emotional tests to be bought up to play. Yes it is difficult when the team gets together and your daughter is being driven by her mother instead of letting her be driven by a school friend.....That's the hardest part. But level of play - your daughter has to be an impact player and the team will welcome her. It's up to the coach to set standard levels of play and to back his/her decision up. If an older player is getting bumped by a player whom is better...well that's life. It's also life to be a parent watch her friends, parties etc. It is still up to the parent to say NO. If said 7th/8th grader has older siblings, they know a lot already.

The coach may also be trying to build for the future and may need to develop the team with future leaders.

The only sport where this is reversed is cross country - some upstate teams who win States are filled with the younger girls - however the burn out by the time they reach 12th grade.

Do you hold back a gifted academic student to regular classes when AP is more challenging up to level and a chance for the student to grow and learn? To you move them up so their growth potential is not stagnated?

It's a fine balance.

D conference teams can rarely field anything but a varsity team no one is cut so they need anyone who wants to be on team in lacrosse
Not a superstar if you are on varsity in 8th grade just too few players to fill a roster

Northport
West Islip
Smithtown E
Smithtown W

Riverhrad still too young.

ESM ranked 9 Nationally had 3 8th graders on team when they won States and um they played so try again
