Some stats for LI Lax fans to digest.
Over the past 10 years only 5 teams from Long Island have ended the year in the top 25 poll 5 times or more.
In a national level 18 programs have done this. Darien and Deerfield have done it the most consistently at 9X.
Some great programs like Jamesville Dewitt Summit and St. Ignatious, etc. are left out as they have only finished in the top 10 poll 4 times in the past decade. Manhassett does not fit.
So, here are the Long Island teams :
Chaminade 8X St. Anthony 7X Ward Melville 6X West Islip 5X Garden City 5X
Haverford, McDonagh,Boys Latin, Delbarton, Georgetown, Calvert Hall, Landon, Conestoga, Gillman,Culver, and LaSalle all are in this class 5X or more. So we have some storied programs in this company.
So, my questions....
Is the better program the one that's in the top 10 the most times but never finished #1? (Chaminade)
or,
Is the better program the one that finished #1, but runs hot and cold and is in the top 10 less consistently? (Garden City, Ward Melville, West Islip)
I think several years ago West Islip would have fit into both categories and been a clear winner, but they have not ranked in the top 25 in the past 5 years. Is their best behind them for Scott Craig and his team?
5 years would be a more relevant barometer as to which programs are currently the strongest. Any program that has not made the list at least a couple of times in the past 5 years can not be considered a top program. Off the top of my head I would guess Garden City, Cold Spring Harbor, Ward Melvile, Chaminade and St. Anthony's Maybe Manhasset, SWR? Syosset, Massapequa? Put Chaminade and St A , with Garden City, Cold Spring Harbor, Ward Melvile, Manhasset, SWR? Syosset, Massapequa. Smithtown teams they might win once every 10 years,

Truth to the Legacy/fl$/91 merger? For the love of Legacy 91? Many of these programs are using 91 as their back office. Jesters, Ducks, Empire, all do this. 91 ended up buying Empire. So this seems logical, especially since Legacy is a 91 coach that spun off on his own from what I understand. But how does F$G come into this? Why would they merge they run their own tournaments, clinics, camps, showcases ect....

This sounds like a mess - when you look at the likely results of such a consolidation, you might have 6+ teams in one organization at certain ages. People already complain about how second or third teams get treated with these no-separate clubs - this only exacerbates that bad situation. It might result in some absolutely dominant top teams, but such teams would then have zero competition on LI - they'll have no choice but to travel to every tournament they play in! This might make sense from a club ownership perspective in the short term, but it sounds like a long-term mess.

anybody that does not think that CSH belongs in the conversation for elite teams the past 5 years is insane and should not post on this site for 3 day 4 hours and 12 minutes. The school has about 100 kids per grade and yet they are a top team almost every year. Last years team was the best on LI

Not to quibble, but if they only had 100 kids per grade, they would be in class D . . . they actually have more than twice that number of students per grade (they have about ~950 students). That still doesn't diminish what they've accomplished recently, especially when they likely may have been the best team on LI in some years.

Well, the original post was talking about the past decade(not 5 years) in the National top 25. In this discussion, school size does not matter and is not a factor. Simply, the point is how often a team ranked in the national top 25 poll. CSH only had good teams recently - but mostly due to the class that just graduated. Perhaps those days will continue, perhaps they won't. How have they done over the past 10 yrs. By your logic, GC would not belong because they have not "represented" since 2013. We all know they are a perennial power. Since you offered an opinion... over the next 5 years, I would not expect CSH to be as good as they have been recently.

Look for the resurrection of Sayville lax in fairly short order now that the coach has returned. Lots of optimism and high expectations.

I think norfhport lost too much 'Quot Coach will doom us...he is just horrible. it's a shame. Not sure why you say that, look at your past losses, did you ever beat those teams you lost to as you got older. You have a good team, sur ethe coach get more out of you but I think it was just a reflection of the team. The next few years will not be the coaches fault, just maybe be where the team is. Enjoy what the boys give you, will be a great season either way If the coaching was better then the team could get further and achieve their potential. Coaching isn't good enough. The teams around you are more talented than you are. It's not rocket science. Very good team, but not good enough for a Suffolk "A" title in any of the past 5 years. You had the current SW coach and 2 All-American players, a bunch of years ago, and still couldn't get it done. Suffolk A is, maybe, the toughest division around.

Not much competition beyond the best third of the division in each. Many would argue that Suffolk B has some of the toughest competition in the country. Almost every game is a battle.

Northport could be a surprise sleeper. Massapequa and Ward Melville are the front runners but who are the teams with the best chance of upsetting them. Any surprise teams stepping up this year? Syosset Doubt it. They don't have a faceoff guy and they are shuffling players around because they are weak at a few spots. Oh and they also lost one of their starters on defense. Syosset has no FoGo and no Goalie. Attack is overrated overall, however some talent at Midfield. Also, bad attitude on the team epecially among the seniors. They will likely loose 3 out of 4 none league games, but will do OK in their league which is weak other than Massapequa. They will be out is the semis or finals in Nassau A. No goalie? Syosset has a junior goalie committed to Stony Brook. That a decent D1 program. Wasn't he the starter last year Yes, he was the starter, but he vaporized during the playoffs. Didn't see him at the Syosset / Farmingdale game. I wonder what happened?

In Suffolk each division could classify over 40% of teams in each division as good or better. And in Suffolk about 50% of the A teams could be classified as good or better (with more teams than nassau. why do we have to play first round of states.

Since you offered an opinion... over the next 5 years, I would not expect CSH to be as good as they have been recently. valid argument but on the other hand I discount the national polls as being slanted towards certain regions and certain teams, I think many of us on this board have a better feel for LI teams than people that vote in the polls based on reputation and box scores rather than having ever scene the teams play IMHO

anybody that does not think that CSH belongs in the conversation for elite teams the past 5 years is insane and should not post on this site for 3 day 4 hours and 12 minutes. The school has about 100 kids per grade and yet they are a top team almost every year. Last years team was the best on LI
Not to quibble, but if they only had 100 kids per grade, they would be in class D . . . they actually have more than twice that number of students per grade (they have about ~950 students). That still doesn't diminish what they've accomplished recently, especially when they likely may have been the best team on LI in some years. actually the 950 number (actually 964) is grades 7-12 - the average grade size is about 140 NYSED online data suggest average grade size is closer to 165+ . . . quibble accepted - your still talking about 80 - 90 boys per grade and they have been a consistently good and occasionally great team with many of them going on to great college careers.

"The current CSH sophomores are not all that. Recall the CSH JV lost to Chaminade Freshman team last year. The then CSH freshman did very little in that game. #way-over-rated."
Um, the freshman were essentially the whole team, so they must've done something...
Ok, great. You call them over rated. Who is the underrated Sophomore group you think is better? Curious for this answer... Public high schools please, leave your for pay private all star teams out of the discussion for now.

I don't know what is worse. The knucklehead that doesn't live in CSH knocking a bunch of kids that don't live in his Town or this knucklehead who lives in CSH knocking a bunch of kids who happen to be in the grade above is son. Thanks neighbor.

How many Freshman and how many sophs were playing on varsity CSH last year? The current CSH sophomores are not all that. Recall the CSH JV lost to Chaminade Freshman team last year. Schedules are limited outside of conf/class, so it's not like anyone could play anyone if they wanted. Thus, lot's of speculation - which means lots of opinions . . .

If my sons team beats your sons team it was ....A great game played by some wonderful players on both sides, very well coached game and the parents on both teams were supportable and great. but and this is a big "Donald Trump" BUTT If your over aged men that were recruited to play for your HS beat our boys from a town team you can be assured that. The refs were being paid by express, your team was dirty, your coach was an embarrassment to HS sports and those red solo cup parents should be barred from any school event ever, and by the way, I could smell your neighbors BBQ at the field.
