Syosset has never won a state championship despite having many, many talented players through the years.

Similar story in 2016.... Syo got beat by a disciplined and well coached WM Team.

Can go back further but is it really necessary? Easy to see the pattern.

Syosset lacrosse will never win a championship with the current coaching staff.

So the coaching was good enough to beat Pequa/WM maybe its the players, maybe they were hung over?

Who, the coaches? Yes, maybe they were hung over...

If the players were hung over this again is a coaching failure. CSH went up to Middletown the night before to get in the "zone", and took care of business. Syo coaching staff should have brought the team up the night before and made sure the players were well rested and not hung over.... So yes, it was a coaching failure.

Anybody that blames a HS coach for the social behavior of 16-17-18 year old kids is crazy. I would not want to work in a job that was predicated on the actions of someone else teenage kid.

That's what coaches sign up / get paid for....

I am sorry I feel that parents are asking way too much of coaches these days. Parents need to do a little more parenting. Today parents want to blame everyone else for their child's behavior. Its an absolute joke. Monkey see monkey do, parents. If your smoking the wacky tabacky, if your nipping the bottle every night at the table, what do you think junior will do? Nooo its the coaches fault!! B.S. If you dont check juniors bag before a school sanctioned trip and he gets busted for having alcohol or weed. If you dont look in their wallet for the fake ID and they get in trouble for buying liquor, its not the coaches fault its yours. If parents know the kids vaping and then they get caught vaping at school its your fault not the coaches. Its called parenting. Your children are not your friends. Which is something many parents dont get today. Its always someone else's fault. No parents its yours.

A varsity coach will enter the players lives around age 15 or 16 years old, they spend 2-3 hours a day with them six days a week from the beginning of March until the end of May and they have 30 to 40 kids to worry about (not just yours). For the $8,000 - $12,000 they get paid they will be responsible for school work, school discipline problems, teaching and advising them on the recruiting process, talk to college coaches on their behalf, getting calls from other teachers about the kids, dealing with parents, (and in many years they have to deal with family tragedy) and they actually coach lacrosse. This same coach may also coach 1 or 2 other sports as well as trying to raise their own families......and every anonymous poster on here think they all suck.... Here is a Thank You to all the coaches and assistant coaches that have to deal with us and for the most part do a damn good job.

Amen to that!!! Just sucks when the few rotten apples spoil the bunch. I am sure in the next year or two we will see more and more issues. I am just waiting

Seems like someone is unhappy with their career choice. Lol. Your kidding with this statement, right. The choice to teach is up to the individual. I am sure a lot of thought went into your career path decision. The choice to be in academia is not an easy one especially in this day and age. As for getting paid to coach, what should they do it for free? What type of work are you in? I am sure you dont work for free. The hours spent coaching can be long and tedious. They are away from their families and the good coaches put in a lot more hours than what is expected.

No, really, thank you for pointing that out. Yes, that is a typical number each year. And your non answer - also speaks volumes.

So, don't you think think that's exactly the reason this questIon was asked? Not that many have committed yet, so why not? Has the coach or AD tried to slow down the process?

Now, if you have any useful contribution, it would be greatly appreciated.

Following up-
2 recent commits from GC
1 2019 to Brown
1 2018 to Utah

So, maybe it was just early to ask the question .

Flood gates are opening for GC.....

Another 2019 to Cornell

I think a good number of them do a solid job. Every parent is like a Yankee fan. They expect to win every year and it just doesn't work like that. (No offense to the Yankee fans). So if they don't win Suffolk, or Long Island or the state, it is of course the coaches fault. Now do not get me wrong. They do get paid for it and everyone deserves to get paid. But like I said, some are much more deserving than others. And not everyone covers all the responsibilities that you covered in your post. For example, there is one coach, a long standing coach in Suffolk County on the North Shore who is notorious for doing the bare minimum for his players. And this is a top 10 program that has sent players to college, a number at the D1 top 10 level and if you ask the players or the parents, this coach had absolutely nothing to do with getting them there. It was either the travel coaches or the parents that did all the work. So the point is not all coaches are made the same and some care a [lacrosse] of a lot more about their kids than others.

true that - like in any occupation some are better than others, same as with teachers and administrators, the original post was not trying to canonize HS coaches it was about saying they (most) do a lot and to hold them responsible for teenage boys social shortcomings is silly. But your point is valid, many go above and beyond and some come up short.

Ha..was waiting for that response from one of our LI teachers.......academia...most are HS GYM teachers.....get over yourself. HS teachers work half a day for half a year. Please tell me, with your extensive academic knowledge what job is there other than a LI teacher that works half a day/half a year and is paid as a full time employee. Nobody stated that they should coach for free but to try and sell the long/tedious hours thing is silly. Away from family coaching???? cmon...then don't coach.

I'll take my 1/2 a day PE job making 6 figures plus a pension when I retire at 55 and move to Florida and live in the house that coaching is paying for....at the end of the day, no coach wants to lose, but we work with what we have got. Whoever lives in the town and wants to play we coach. With all of the other bs that you non-parenting parents allow your kids to do (heroin for example) I don't mind being the person motivating your kid to do something positive with their lives. For the record, 1 team in each conference finishes their season with a win....someone has to lose. But losing in lacrosse is a lot better than losing in life.

Amen to that. You play the hand you are delt. Some years it's feast others it's famine. As a high school coach you can't pick and choose your players or the parents. There is so much more to deal with as a coach especially on Long Island when it comes to lacrosse. There are so many sideline critics and Monday morning quterbacks it's insane. Not all towns are created equal when it comes to lacrosse talent and the talent pool does change. It may not change that drastically in some towns but they all have up and down years.
