Suffolk Division I
Early season with a lot of lacrosse to be played but...
Final Four Predictions
1 - Middle Country 2 - Northport 3 - Smithtown E 4 - Smithtown W
West Islip good coaching and winning tradition could also be in the mix. Can Huntington make a run? Were two games in. Little early. At this pointing would say np to take it. They beat up on sw. But sw beat up on pat med so idk when np plays mc that'll tell the tale. Wi Lois shaky at best WI not what they used to be. West Islip coaching will help the team improve as the season goes on. West Islip will also have one of their stronger players return to the lineup. Northport looks like they are playing well and we know they are always tough and well coached. Middle Country has to be the favorite. Cant see anyone else but those three, maybe one of the smithtowns. player return may be too late? Wi is 3-1 so a little early to count out. Watched the sachem game where they lost in dbl ot. Goalie played awesome and had some nice work on offense. Players need to step up. Teams like nb beating up on weaker teams. They will get theirs. Sw blown out by np but redeemed next game. I think it's too early to tell. In the playoffs it usually comes down to coaching. When two talented teams meet in the playoff many times coaching plays a major role in the outcome. Tradition, team culture and preparation are very important. Some teams have prepared to win, they expect to win, they have worked hard in the off season and they are ready to compete. Recognizing talent, identifying strengths and weakness of players and putting players in the best position to succeed is absolutely critical to team success. Scouting, strategic game planning and in-game adjustments are all very important and play a huge role in the playoffs. Obviously a team needs the athletes but more times than not it is coaching that makes the difference come playoff time. Coaching is not the answer to WI success. The HS team has been the beneficiary of receiving from a strong youth program, good numbers of good quality players. Like most good youth programs you are going to have up and down cycles, some cycles, wether good or bad, will span a few years sometimes. Current players are decent right now, just not quite as good as some of the recent graduates that have been carrying that team last few years.

"Why is the poster an idiot? Why not pad them up? I think we can forget holding the refs accountable. If it hasn't happened yet, it's not going to happen. If we're worried about safety, padding them up is an answer."
The answer is not to throw the whole sport out and have them play another sport which men's lacrosse is essentially another sport entirely. You want to see girls lacrosse participation numbers go down, have them play the mens game.

isnt it rich that YJ Bert and the mr. physicality spalina are the newsday quotes on helmets. Both have coached the game to get us where we are today. They should look in the mirror Read it again genious. Spallina doesn't like helmets. My daughter will never wear a helmet - Bobby Nystrom You're stupid. Mine won't step off the bus without one. - Pat LaFontaine Wat a bunch of dopes. I weared a helmet and I am fine. -Eric Lindros

What's everyone's guess on percent on LI schools that will offer helmets next year? Mine is it will jump to about 50%. These school districts don't like conflict, they all follow each other and nobody wants to be accused of negligence when it comes to safety (whether its real or not).
Look for the weaker schools to move first because they don't have strong lacrosse coaching in those towns

Some schools have made it optional. They've been offered in our district - you can either buy your own or use one of the small number the district purchased). So far, no takers.

In Levittown the AD claims it's the Superintendents decision and it is mandated. The girls are suffering as a result with daily headaches (one size fits all despite the [lacrosse] claim of being adjustable) headaches every single day and officials allowing opponents leniency because they don't "hear" a stick hit helmet. Coaches don't dare say anything because they need their paycheck. At the very least hey should be optional. JV numbers are barely enough to field a team, this will destroy the program. The girls hate them.

You can spend 150.00 easy on a stick spend it on her head. if you are that concerned about it as a parent you make the decision not the School District. If the rules allow them to worn I don't see how a School District can stop you.

Rolling eyes. Taking a deep breath . This has Nothing to do with weakness, it has to do with strong arming a program as far as I see it. Let them be optional- my daughters team faced the team with helmets and we got away with more flagrant fouls than ever before! Actually felt bad for the team that were forced to wear them, remember girls can be sensitive and coach isn't sticking up for them and proving they're doing more harm than good then girls won't respect coach and it trickles through the veins of the town...

I guess the Elevate girls couldn't be persuaded to follow their Elevate guru to Holy Trinity? Or did he build in some extra fees on top of the tuition and folks caught on? What does that mean? Just because a girl plays on Elevate doesn't mean they have to go to Trinity. Did one of the Elevate parent coaches follow DK to Trinity? Yes the PAL puppet coach from Elevate/Huntington followed DK there. UNREAL!

Wish this forum would stick to the teams and games. As to poster who made fun of pequa and states, they actual be be a very good team and along with syosset and Port will have a decent shot at beating any Suffolk A team to advance there so before you denigrate a team full of hs girls without any knowledge. Learn the facts. If you are mad at a dad say so, if you are mad at a freshman girl, keep it to yourself. Wont Port Washington need to be able to beet a team in Nassau before they think about Suffolk?

Helmets will just allow officials to call FEWER fouls as if it couldn't get any worse, well just wait.
In our game yesterday the refs came together on 4 or 5 calls because they had different calls. Even they don't know what the [lacrosse] is going on! When you aren't getting matching calls with your partner you have a problem. One yellow issued after multiple contacts to the head

SA girls varsity lax team is a disgrace. From head coach SF to #. Constantly screaming at refs and playing after the whistle. SF should be embarrassed how she acts on sidelines and encourages her players to play dirty. The refs are feed up . 6 yellow cards in last game. SA let's kids in without entrance exams. That girl has been kicked out plus gives an athletic money . # dirty on soccer field as well(ask Kellenberg). They are just a mediocre public school with a dress code on a nice piece of property in S. Huntington. Hey Summer the money you are making from training your own kids on team please put towards lax training for yourself

To the parent who is just so insanely naive, due to complete ignorance, let me clear some things up for you regarding SA HS. "..a mediocre public school with a dress code"..?? While it is so clear you or your child did/do not attend this level of HS, or were there and have now left due to your own actions or inactions, I will lay it out with accuracy - SA has an academic standard which is incredible (breadth of offerings, depth of studies, a failing grade is 75 - this level is a "C" at any other school). Character Ratings must be upheld for successful matriculation and attendance at this school. A 75 year proven college prep curriculum and society, in every way, guiding students with moral character that you are clearly lacking in while identifying a single player by number, a teenager, for your own bored, vile needs. Yes - The Cath HS entrance exams are indeed in place, to make sure that every applicant has the aptitude to succeed in a rigorous academic, disciplined, environment. Or, yes, they will be gone at their own hand. Which happens, as we all have seen. It is not for every student/athlete. Standards must be maintained. Rules followed. And for those successful students, they LOVE their school with a sense of pride that is unparalleled. Student population is large, so there is a large population of athletes. No one is taught to be dirty players by SF... We all know that any of that comes from other environments an athlete is in - family, Club teams, general demeanor. They are however, taught to compete at the highest level - with schedules that are diverse and highly competitive, practices that are mandatory, at all hours of the day and night, never missing one single day - yes, even outside in the weather (only one team can practice indoors at any given time and it is not ideal.). Please do not speak on things on which you have zero knowledge, it is sad to see an adult do so. Be better than that.

WOW! typical SH "classy" behavior, keep it about the sport and the behavior not going after the school or the kid in particular, unless you want each of your players put under the BoTC microscope?

Looks like you got schooled on many of your other statements as well............If you choose to log on, then know what you speak of please.

What a load of crap. Talk to any of the public HS kids who know kids who go to SA, and they all do, and you will hear about the rampant drug use going on there. My own kid told me how a former public HS friend and fellow scout got caught doing coke in the café. Parents cleared the crime with a donation. So get off your high horse about the morals at SA.

Keep drinking that Friar Cool Aid and deceiving yourself while you pray in the school's preferred three-point stance. If the education is working for you and you upgraded from a lowly public school, that is great and you should be commended for making that sacrifice. As for the character, visit the parking lot after school and see what is going on there-not that it isn't going on at other schools, but please... Having been there for a stint and returned to public please don't misguide people into thinking it is something it is not--a top flight academic institution.

I am the parent of 2 girls that have played in the Catholic league the last 6 years. In those 6yrs, daughters teams have lost most if not all of the games they played against St Anthonys and SHA. but that's the only 2 things these teams have in common. Coach Ferraro always won with dignity and never embarrassed our teams. Never allowing her starters to play extended minutes, never playing man down and never letting the game get out of hand. Her teams play very hard but clean.

All I can say is WOW, what a bunch of losers you all are. The SA elitist clown who feels going to SA is the pinnacle of education is probably only slightly less hideous than the coward calling out a high school player by her number. My kids high school is far from perfect but the few kids who have left to go to SA have generally done so because they got in trouble at school or were getting in trouble out of school and mom and dad were hoping a change of schools would help.

It's only a one-day sample, but thought the scores from yesterday were interesting (per Newsday). In Nassau, 4 of the 8 games listed were 1-goal games, with another 13-10 and only one blowout at 17-1. In Suffolk, there were 10 games listed with only one 1-goal game and one 2-goal difference. The average goal differential was 10.2, with scores of 19-0, 14-0, 18-1, 20-5 and 15-3. (At least in the 14-0 game there were 13 goal scorers and only 2 goals scored in the second half.)
I don't know how the power conferences work in Nassau, but at least for yesterday they seemed to work.
