Someone should, I'm too lazy to do it, compare this list to where these teams actually finish at the end of the season. That's the list that really counts!

Wow take a deep breath. Its a ranking of high school teams that was put out by a lacrosse publication. Its just for conversation and not the end of the world. So i am an idiot and an as* you must be a 12 year old whose team wasnt ranked where they wanted them to be. I usually tell my kids to use their words. I just picture you arms flailing and typing away.

I am not from ward Melville , but how is SE ranked over them, SE has choked the lastc2 years WM has not.because one kid dad on SE? Good point. But, SE did not choke in 2015, they got beat by a wide margin. They did not score at all in the entire second half of the game. Having said that SE likely has the most offensive firepower in Suffolk in 2017, but nobody should discount outstanding defense from the likes of programs such as WM. It will be interesting.

Because SE is stacked this year. 12 Senior D1 commits and a bunch of others as well. I seem to recall WM falling apart last year when it counted. Dismantled by Victor. WM does not have the talent to be ranked in the top 20 this year because they lost important players and have no replacement. Sorry dad

Smithtown lost their semi playoff in overtime after being up the whole game. Only losses last season were one goal, and they return most starters but fogo, and they have two studs ready to step in. They will be a complete team. But... we won't know until games are played so easy everyone, preseason rankings don't mean much as far as I'm concerned.

Any feedback on the 3 day sleepover fl$ Legit Showcase at LIU Post at end of June ? It's close to home and not too over priced so was wondering if it was worth it for our 2019 son. Are there many college coaches there and is it well run etc? Well run and lots of college coaches. That being said, there could be hundreds of coaches at this or any other showcase but it doesn't matter unless your son has an interest in some of the schools AND has contacted them to show his interest and let them know he will be attending. Awesome recruiting 101 primer. Many thanks from the entire greater BOTC community. The knowledge you have imparted on the rest of us is truly mind bending.

I would hardly say losing to Victor by 2 is a choke when Victor's average margin of victory was almost 11 goals a game. WM was a very well coached, very disciplined team with great goalie and outstanding team and individual defense.

I am not from ward Melville , but how is SE ranked over them, SE has choked the lastc2 years WM has not.because one kid dad on SE? Every year HS teams must re-load but to think schools like SE, Syosset , LV can replace some of those lost pieces is insane. SE lost the best HS FO in the country and Syosset a HS top 5 attackman in the country. Those 2 have proven their merit on the national stage as well as the 2017 college season. It's possible they can be successful but in the words of Coach Boone " you can't replace a Gerry Bertier , next question". Titans did win ( in the movie , in real life Bertier gets paralyzed after the Championship) but w/o guys like that you need a great coaching job and real team chemistry.

according to LP, Smithtown East has 14 D1 commits, the problem is that 8 are middys and 2 more are mid-F/O so unless they can figure out how to get more then 3 middies on the field at one time it doesn't matter how good the 8 on the bench are. Obviously this is a good problem to have and does lessen the potential disaster of an injury to a key player but when you play top 10 v top 10 I still like WM chances.

Public High School teams can't "re-load".... they can just pull from who attends the school. Larger districts like, Syosset, Smithtown & Massapequa have a little more of the ability to back-fill talented seniors who graduate due to the size of the districts. There are a lot more players that you have access to....but there is no recruiting to re-load. Much more difficult for the smaller districts to do this given the numbers in the district

Much more difficult for the smaller districts to do this given the numbers in the district re-load is a term for inserting players to replace departing players - ( they don't re-build, they re-load) and it is used in HS, College and Pro sports just to indicate that some teams never seem to have down (re-building) years they always re-load and are competitive, on LI I would say traditionally the public school teams that re-load year after year are GC, MANH, WI, WM and CSH - they all seem to stay competitive year after year while other teams have great peak years ( FARM, MASS, SYO, SE, SW and Friends) but mix those years with off or rebuilding years. I agree about the larger schools having a bigger talent pool but I really think that it is more about tradition and youth programs otherwise you can not explain how CSH is competitive every year while much larger schools are not.

You can prognosticate in February all you want, I heard the Panthers were going back to the Super Bowl, how did that work out. Let's get back to this at the end of the lacrosse season.

Yeah but there isnt a drop off when 2nd and 3rd lines are in. When a team has 1 or 2 good lines and their horses get tired and have to put in 3rd line a team thats deep with talent will dominate especially in the later part of a game.

Colleges don't even play their third lines (ask any dad of a kid on the third line) - depth is good but I will take a team with a better top 10 any day of the week. CSH never has depth, all they do is win, it is why the are hands down the best public school team on LI this year, not because of their third line but because of their starting 10.

WM choked, beatdown by Victor. Were like deer in the headlight. Was hard to watch! Which is probably why the are ranking low. Ward Melville is by far the most dominant HS program on the Island. Smithtown East is not even close. West Islip had a great run, Garden City, Manhasset, CHS, Syosset, Massapequa, Farmingdale and Lynbrook are all great programs as well but please do not put mention Smithtown East in the same sentence as Ward Melville or the other programs. I know some of you "public school nuts" will be upset but Don't mention Smithtown East in the same sentence as St Anthony's or Chaminade either. I went to a public HS and a public university and my kids attend public school but I cant stand listening to the nonsense about how the privates recruit.

Ward Melville has 1800 students in grades 10-12, SE has 1650 in 9-12, Syosset has 2159 9-12, GC has 1100 9-12, Manhasset has just over 1,000 9-12, CSH has just over 900 9-12. Massapequa has 1800 10-12, Farmingdale has 1900 9-12, Lynbrook has 900 9-12. So based on enrollment WM, Syosset, Massapequa and Farmingdale should be dominant. The mere fact that GC, Manhasset, CSH and Lynbrook can compete with schools that are close to twice their size speaks volumes about those programs.

I can only speak to GC and Manhasset, everyone knows they hold their kid back in first grade, that is a fact, it only takes 10 to play. So top with the extra kids

I would guess if the kids parents are smart in those 4 towns the best athletes are playing lacrosse, in my big town I can count 10 great athletes that play other sports not lacrosse and I say thank god.

according to LP, Smithtown East has 14 D1 commits, the problem is that 8 are middys and 2 more are mid-F/O so unless they can figure out how to get more then 3 middies on the field at one time it doesn't matter how good the 8 on the bench are. Obviously this is a good problem to have and does lessen the potential disaster of an injury to a key player but when you play top 10 v top 10 I still like WM chances. Yeah but there isnt a drop off when 2nd and 3rd lines are in. When a team has 1 or 2 good lines and their horses get tired and have to put in 3rd line a team thats deep with talent will dominate especially in the later part of a game. respectfully disagree, if you have no drop off from your first line to your third line then your first line is probably isn't that good. I was speaking about a team that has 14 D1 commits. Of course there is some drop off from 1st to 3rd lines but if you have a team with that many commits there isnt the same drop off that there would be with a team that has only 4 commits. So the team with 4 commits has their studs running most of game the other team has the luxury of running a very good 2nd and even 3rd line. Eventually fatigue sets in for the team thats been running their top guys almost all game. Team with more depth will eventually prevail.

SE has had tons on D1 commits the last 3 years but no LIC or beyond. Preseason rankings don't indicate much of anything other than the amount of lobbying that gets done during the off-season.
