Duke does lose out on some kids because they still make you go through the admissions process. If you are not a 95 plus student with a 1300 SAT you are risking being denied. Coach says she is pretty sure you will get in if your SAT is close and you maintain your 92 GPA. The problem is it is a risk to take, if you don't get in you may have left a lot of scholarship money on the table to a school that tells you that you are definitely getting in. It is a lot of money for the top players to be risking. There are tons of schools that will walk recruits in if they hit the ncaa minimums which is just a little more than knowing how to spell your name. I didn't know Duke was this tough on lacrosse girls because they clearly walk minimum kids in for basketball and football. yes you are right. the post above had a bunch of made-up info. on it. what the womens lacrosse is held to standards miles above the mens basketball and football?? not how the world works. Yes, it is how the world works. Mens' basketball, and I assume football, is held to a different, much lower standard than just about any other team. I hear it first hand from my kids. And I'm just talking academics. You can look to the news to see how they are not held accountable for sexual assaults where the schools are complicit in cover ups. What about that Duke bball player who was suspended for tripping other players? Suspended 3 games. Pffft. Actually, he was suspended "indefinitely" but it only lasted 1 game. Brought him back as soon as they lost - surprise, surprise.

Football and basketball pay the bills! Lacrosse is a financial loser for both men and women and NOBODY cares except parents of players and a few other friends, alumni and your club director (it's the biggest BS sales pitch - 80% of these kids would still play if they never played club, only difference is they wouldn't get recruited in 9th grade)

Notre Dames issue is coaching not personnel Maybe, and she seems to have turned away from LI and MD talent for future recruiting classes favoring other areas. Can't see that decision playing out to well for her.. when was the last good decision she made? ND and Florida can't win with these coaches and Florida should at the very least make it to championship game this year

Does SB blame the Inside Lacrosse cover jinx? they won right? am I missing something? against a very stout opponent.. 4th ranked team beating 19th ranked team in the last 5 sec..thats what you might be missing... both unc and sbu ran into goalies who had great games, otherwise neither game would have been that close Goalie play had nothing to do with SB Towson Game. Stats right down the line were split. Towson went toe to toe on shots, draw control, caused turn overs, ground balls, and saves. If anything Towson needs to work on shots on goal as they had a very low percentage. You make it sound like they ran into a goalie that owned them, not the case at all especially in the second half. difficulty level of the saves were very different

I am sorry but you are dead wrong. Why does football get 85 scholarships and girls lacrosse 12? Football at these top schools pays the bills. Girls lacrosse does not get 35 automatic entries into the school to fill the team irrespective of scholarship money. Football gets the 85 and walk-ons admitted. Some qualify on their own grades, most are automatics at these top schools. Duke football in particular loosened up requirements several years ago which is why they are more competitive than in the past, they have better athletes because they are letting them in.

If grades aren't up to par, said advisor gets professor to change them. That's only what I know from my kids. I'm sure other things go on too. This is not done to anywhere close to that extent for girls' teams. It pisses my kids off.

Notre Dame looked bad today both teams looked very slow, especially for an indoor game, don't think either team finishes in top 10 It was filmed from the endzones low. Game would look faster from the side. Lasota looked plenty fast to me. Northwestern will finish in the top ten. But their next four games, all on the road, r tough. They play 5 straight on the road including the win over ND. Next up an improving Colorado team at altitude, then USC, Syr and SB. 1 home game and then on the road at UNC. No one plays a schedule like these girls. If they can come out of that stretch 5-3 that would be a solid start.

As a parent of a D1 sophomore at a midlevel school 30th-45th I would like to welcome the freshmen and their parents. Most freshmen were a huge part of their high school team it's a new experience to see them struggle both on the field and in the classroom. Support them and encourage them to no end. Very few will see the field and it's painful to comprehend for the both of you. It's a new system that they need to learn and it takes time so provide support your time will come and the next step you will be on the field remembering how difficult it was to be a freshmen. Keep your head up the both of you or it could be a tough four years. Good luck it's not as easy or fun as you think it should be be patient and supportive and POSITIVE

saw this game, looks like the refs helped cuse in this one. Reffing in general needs to get better. BC will only get better though, still have Kenzie Kent waiting in the wings, Team is young and will figure it out. Cuse looked great today, Rahal and Hawryschuk are great, Donohue is lethal. Draw taker is great at winning it but lost it off the draw a lot. Bc has a great win already with beating Umass, team just had a let down it seemed. Virginia losing to Elon is a lot worse then this loss

What they dont do is say they need to be better than the guys lax team (if the school has one). The girls basketball team gets the same base as guys. Cant compare to football

Florida teams always come up short against teams with well rounded athletes like Carolina... Mandy likes the single sport lax rats- i.e. low character yellow jackets. Only know one thing, I'm going to the cage bc Dad told me to. The most overated lacrosse community on the planet.. strong island- pfft!!

I don't know how you can say the refs helped Cuse when they had 24 fouls and BC had 7. It doesn't sound like much help to me. I watched the game also, BC was good but Cuse was just better in all areas.

Draw taker is great at winning it but lost it off the draw a lot. Bc has a great win already with beating Umass, team just had a let down it seemed. Virginia losing to Elon is a lot worse then this loss Don't forget the Goalie was much better for 'cuse than last year, Much better even as a frosh, great pick for them BC goalies couldn't stop a beach ball yesterday and the defense was horrible, not a good combination BC will get better as the season goes on. Sophomore from WB is off to a great start from her knee surgery. That team will go as far as she will take them. 18 points in 3 games this season Another LI ball hog with arrogant cheerleaders....shocking 6 goals and 12 assists. Hardly a ball hog. The YJ model

Northwestern 9-7 over Canisius. Tied at half and no goals in last 11 plus minutes. A win is a win early in the season or a red flag? It's January! Northwestern 9-7 over Canisius.
Low Character? really? what a moron. Do You know those girls? that's pretty pathetic of an adult to take shots at kids he obviously knows nothing about because you don't like the Yellow Jackets. BTW which YJ's hurt Florida in that game? Looks like they played very well! When those same kids who Beat UNC last year, were they not the reason they won? so stupid. crawl back in your hole!

I wouldn't go anywhere on the character issue but fla does have a roster very different then Carolina as an example. lots of single sport athletes in high school. not gonna find a late developing lacrosse player like 23 for Carolina. multi sport stud in HS getting better and better in college.

A great player but not sure about late developing. She had over 400 goals in HS and was 2x all-American. I agree with the benefits of multiple sports, UNC actually demands it of their recruits. Basketball and soccer are priorities, particularly basketball.

[/quoteI Here is the real story both UNC and Florida get great athletes but the difference is that UNC players always get better as the year goes by and Florida remains the same. I think coaching has a lot to do with that. Look at Cuse year after year they get better as the year goes along , Gary Gait is a great teacher of the game. It's all about getting better each day . At this level the top 3-4, teams all have great talent but can you coach that talent to be selfless ? That's the real question.

PA high school doesn't get one ready for the ACC. but an all-around athlete and getting better at Lacrosse.

They have had a lot of success and have lost great players and the team has adapted reloaded with talent and having kids develop. They only had 2 Freshman starters last year and 1 this year, which means there are kids who developed stepping into the vacated spots. What I will agree with you on is that the coaching needs to improve in making adjustment during the game.

That is a broad brush! Must be a liberal! I know everyone is Racist, homophobic etc.. yada yada yada! its so tiresome! judge the kids as individuals. its so ridiculous that you can't let what you perceived happened to your daughter when she was 12 go. You have some deep rooted issues! try therapy, you can get a 2 for 1 as you try to deal with Hillary losing!

Long Island is the most overrated lax community? 6 Pre season First team All Americans and 18 overall! I'd say Strong Island is doing just fine!
