Try to follow me here: club teams are for profit businesses, college coaches scouting at a program's showcase does not have to be for money, unless you are Igloo which needs all the help it can get trying to expose its players to the college coaches

They are paid at every event. It allows them to recruit and put a little money in the low paid assistant coaches pockets.

Hopkins is #10 on US News & World Report So? The admissions standards for recruited lacrosse players at Hopkins are basically nonexistent. You can't compare Hopkins to even schools like Notre Dame or Duke, much less the Ivies or good NESCACs.

Where are the Dukes out of? Where do they practice and are they a national team as the kids are stating? Just wondering as I have been hearing a lot about this team. The Dukes are out of Philly. They hold "minicamps" from NY to MD, which are glorified practices. They draw talent from all of the best clubs from NY to MD and the kids involved seem to enjoy it. Minicamps are like 60 bucks a pop on top of fees to be on the team. They are a National team, but who shows up on any given weekend depends on who is available because all these kids play on different teams. They also roster twice as many kids as a normal team and use a travel depth chart to determine who gets to suit up and who doesn't when they have more than enough. Depending on your perspective, it's either a money grab or a way to supplement your kid's playing experience, if he makes the travel cut. There is some daddy ball even in this.

Very true for non-lacrosse players trying to get in. Many, many lacrosse players with less than stellar grades have gotten in to JHU. Ivy leagues have much higher standards.

Yes you can compare the admissions standards of Hopkins to ND or Duke or NESCAC's, even the Ivies. It is not easy to gain acceptance to Hopkins. It is one of the top universities in the US and there is very little, if any, "bending the guidelines" for a lacrosse recruit. You either meet the standards or are not accepted.

There is a "little" wiggle room at Hopkins, but believe me, not much.

You're clearly not very familiar with the recruiting process and shouldn't be commenting as if you are. I'm very familiar with the process. My son was recruited and played at Hopkins and graduated in four years. He had the grades etc. but there were a few teammates who just barely met the requirements or were a few ticks below and this is where the "wiggle room" came into play for the coach. JHU only gives the lax coach 2, maybe 3 at most, for players in this category. Hopkins wants new admissions to have the requirements as they want and expect the student to be successful and to graduate with a degree. A few needed an extra semester but did graduate with their degree.

My son would have gone, but we were concerned with the ability to maintain eligibility, plus the full tuition at his current school was hard to pass up! You can believe whatever you want, this is what happens when you are a top recruit, much is overlooked, with the exception of the Ivies.
