Would a hold back also be considered if you hold your son back if his b-day is in mid November and the cut off for school is December 1st and you hold him back for 1st grade ??

Ty drops new commit for 20s. D to Penn State. Flood gates opening for Fall Ball? Things drying up? A bunch of Ivies coming. Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Penn getting ready committing to an IVY in 9th grade, how do they even know they'll get in? What will the test scores need to be? Isn't it a big risk that your kid might not get a 30+ on the ACT or score super high on the SAT? How do they make it work?

You FCA families are so brainwashed by your preachers that's it's ok to cheat. You guys just Keep justifying that's it's ok for one of you FCA kids born Jan 2000 can play against a kid born in 2002 beat the crap out of the kids 2 years younger and take the D1 commitment while doing it.
There is a BIG Physical difference from 14 to 16yrs of age . AND YES at 16 you start driving and yes they were driving to the tnmt.

Apparently not. There are clearly some rage-filled folks that dont have their facts straight and resort to beating others up verbally. There are no FCA 2020's who drive themselves anywhere. My son is on the team and I know this for a fact.

a few hold backs give me a break . These kids drive themselves to the tnmts. Ok-that was just stupid and is TOTALLY UNTRUE! And let's review since we haven't done so this week....lacrosse is a grade based system. If a new kid who repeated a grade two years ago shows up for your tryout, would you tell him that he can't even though he's entering the same grade as the other kids on the field? And if you're not from The Baltimore area, you probably don't fully understand the pre-first phenomenon that makes many kids older for a current grade. Pre-first decisions are not made to gain an athletic advantage; they're made to gain academic ground and psychological maturity. Every single school and every single club team (even the not-so-competitive ones) in the Baltimore area has some of these kids. "And if you're not from The Baltimore area, you probably don't fully understand the pre-first phenomenon that makes many kids older for a current grade." What is unique about the the Baltimore area that makes pre-school kids not ready for school, either academically or socially?? Are you suggesting they somehow are different than kids from other areas in this regard? Are their schools more advanced, IE, more difficult? Unless the answer to the second question is yes (LOL!), then all of the other likely reasons are damning in some way to the kids and/or the parents, and also suggest that while athletics might not be the overt answer, it has become ingrained in the locality as the thing to do "just in case" Johnny shows potential on the lax field if and when he plays . . .

Isn't it a big risk that your kid might not get a 30+ on the ACT or score super high on the SAT? How do they make it work? This will require a lot of "projecting" based on first quarter grades, and scores from standardized tests (SSAT that predicts SAT/ACT score), and then compute an AI range. Very loosey goosey at this point. A kid could commit and be in love with an Ivy only to not make the admissions cut, and is then left scrambling. Ivies make big lists, then start scratching kids off when data becomes available to gauge their AI. Gotta hand it to kids who commit to Ivies early and deliver on the grades and test scores.

Checked the Brown 2016 commits against the roster and all are there, so they all tracked through admissions. Maybe Ty reconciled the list?Would be more interesting knowing what year of high school each made their verbals to gauge how much academic data was available to work with.

Look at commits from previous years and then check the rosters. For Cornell, looks like 2 did not make it to the roster. Notusre if it was admissions or they did not want to play. Cornell did add 3 or 4 others to the roster not listed on RR.

How much leeway in the admissions? I mean under normal circumstances a good student has about a 90+ average and about a 27 ACT, etc, not enough for ivys.....Is there a sliding scale or a little bit of give for those at that threshold, normally you'd be looking at much higher GPAs and test scores, but to be competitive don't you have to have some flexibility???

My son attended the UVA prospect day this past Sun. It was well run and as expected Coach Tiffany said that he is not going to give verbals to 2020's. In fact he said that most of his recruiting will be done in the Jr year. Very refreshing to hear his recruiting views. Also got a surprising email from the UVA staff on Mon. In the email they mention thst you purchase video from them of all 4 of your sons games for $20. That is anywhere from 1/10 to 1/15 of the cost of the commercial video companies that usually film prospect days and tourneys. Cheers to UVA for doing the right thing and not being greedy, unlike their ACC breathen UNC and Duke. The latter two hire a commercial video company just to make another buck off of us.

Not sure of the specifics but the Ivies have to meet an Academic Index for each recruiting class. Some sort of avg of test scores and grades for each class. In other words an Ivy can't fill up a class with kids that barely meet their standards. So I would assume that they reserve the admissions assistance to the very best players. If you're not a top recruit than you better have scores and grades that will get you in w/o much help

Tiffany will turn UVA around in a hurry. UVA has athletes, but has run a slow-it-down, substitute-in-transition style, which then resulted in alley dodges and unassisted shots from middies. Seriously, almost no UVA goals we ever assisted. Just ugly middie dodge-ball.
With Tiffany's up-tempo, one-more style of play, UVA is going to put up lots of points. Goalie is their big question mark. Expect UVA to compete very well with UNC and beat Duke.

Look at any 40 man roster of the big lacrosse schools our kids are striving for, and maybe only 4 or 5 are from public schools. The rest are prep school kids, who the majority are older and re-classifieds. It is the new norm. Like it, or not.

Several of the early commits attended public schools for 8 years and drank the kool aid that they had to attend private and did not repeat to do so.. Some had never set foot in their new private school prior to committing this past summer. They would not have had to dish out 25k year which some families are struggling to keep up with payments to end up at a school like Penn- Great school but they could have attended anyhow if they concentrated on grades and saved a lot of money and commuting time in the process. Several are also penn residents and were already going to receive in state tuition.

Try again next year. Quite a few boys from last years Championship team did not return so not sure how it was picked beforehand.

Many school systems in the U.S. have a 9/1 cutoff date. So your example oversimplifies "True" graduation year dates.
Statistically, we should see up to 1/3 of players in a graduation year with a date the year earlier than you're putting forth. E.g., a third of players in 2020 would be born in 2001 (born in the 4 months between September 1, 2001-December 31, 2001), and two-thirds in 2002 (born in the 8 months between Jan 1, 2002-August 31, 2002.)
Of course, on teams like the 2020 Crabs, you see more like 80% born in 2001. That's called gaming the system.

Otherwise, I agree that the holdback/reclass trend is rediculous.

It's one thing when you have kids who are close to the cutoff who start Kindergarten a year late, but kids being held back with this kind of age difference is shameful unless there is a truly an academic reason.
