Are there any other changes to eligibility requirements? Or is it just the birthdate? Didn't the dates change last year? Most likely will again after the club directors get involved.

Any of the good 8th graders with late birthdays should be very desirable to a program come tryout time.

what a bunch of BS...so this year cutoff was 5/1/02....had it been left at 9/1/02 would have been a much different outcome....now they put it back to 9/1....because one L.I. 2020 team steamrolled through a bunch of 13 yr olds...very unfair to all of the teams that participated this year...a lot of $$$ spent...glad my sons team didnt go

I will bet that this will change, back to the 5/1 cut off. Why? Because there will be lots of clubs that will not participate because they have lots of 2022 team members who are born between 5/1 and 8/31 that won't be able to go. The only state that this benefits is NY. They should do the original 5/1 cutoff, but you have to be 2022 also. That is how it was the first year. Last year (5/1 and class of 2020 or younger), the second year they went to strictly age 5/1 and the grade didn't matter so they kids could have been a very young 2020 or normal 2021.

No..It just shows the state of YOUTH Lacrosse at this time. With all the holdbacks/prefirst players becoming the norm and better teams loaded with these kids playing down. Who knows after all the Maryland/PA,etc Grade base teams loaded with holdbacks/prefirst players dont attend the tournament...Watch the WSYL change eligibility date back to something else to accommodate the holdback teams. Youth Lacrosse is in a sad state as it pertains to be a fair and level playing field for all players and staying within the spirit of youth athletics at this time. But no fears, out of hundreds of thousands of youth players we are accommodating the College Early Recruiting of 50 players going from 8th to 9 grade players.

"""""""""They should do the original 5/1 cutoff, but you have to be 2022 also."""""""""""" Grade base teams only let select kids play down?? When did youth lacrosse turn into letting only select group of heldback players get an advantage. Yea that goes with the spirit of YOUTH lacrosse. WSYL just needs a age cutoff and teams can work with it. Everyone is on a level playing field with an age cutoff. Even tho the age cutoff of May 1 last year was to accommodate all the grade base teams loaded with holdbacks. Didnt work out for holdback teams when you have a level playing field of age base as WSYL showed. Even if it is a crazy age base date of May 1, It will at least get the holdback teams to participate. Going to Sept 1 in the present holdback era of youth lacrosse will eliminate all the better Maryland/PA teams.

The cut off date means nothing cause no matter what it is at least you are playing against kids your age what clubs choose to do is up to them but I believe most clubs will make special teams. That creates a level playing ground don't matter where you are from your age is your age .

It's very simple make it age based, pick a cut off date and stick with it. The little league World Series has been doing it this way for decades. It's not that difficult.

The title of the game is Youth Lacrosse - People want to watch a youth lacrosse Game - Not 6'4" 14 year olds. This year's game was terrible. Do you think NY teams are stupid, if they go back to 5/1 they will just bring thier older team just like Legacy did this year. If anything they should do what Soccer and Hockey do and move the date back 1/1/2004.

They moved the date to May 1 to try and give other team outside Long Island a chance to compete. They knew Long Island has a December 1 school cut off day and the top teams stick to the Sept 1 and 2021 date. However they never expected Long Island teams would drop kids down from 2030 to 2021. The only way anyone will compete with Long Island is drop the date back down to 5/1 and keep the graduating year at 2022. This will allow teams to have a chance against Long Island teams. This past year if the cut off would have been 5/1 and graduating 2021 igloo a Long Island team whose oldest kid was born in November 2002 would have won but at least had competition from a California team who had many born between 5/1 and 9/1 2002 including its best players. It will get boring watching Long Island teams win every year. They have to do something to make it interesting.

IF YOU ARE BORN ON OR AFTER 9/1/2003 YOU ARE ELIGIBLE DONT GET MUCH EASIER THEN THAT ...HOLDBACK NO HOLBACK IT DONT MATTER PLAY YOUR AGE

Not police school year but require kids to be born after May 1 and be a 2022 graduate. I get it rewards holdbacks but without some age help Long Island teams will win big every year. They moved the date to May 1 to try and give other team outside Long Island a chance to compete. WSYL proved that without holdbacks no state or even region can compete with Long Island teams that are made up of kids who live a few miles apart. This is so even when the Long Island teams were much younger. The holdbacks that Long Island teams have to play are sometimes two years older given the 12/1 lLong Island school cut off. So yes when a Long Island team loses to a much bigger team from another state it usually means the other team had kids as much as two years older. Look what happened at this age based event where Long Island had two of the Youngest teams. All three Long Island teams that entered made it to the final four and there was an all Long Island championship. So the other areas do need age help to compete with Long Island teams. That is why they all cheat when they play Long Island teams. [quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous]It will get boring watching Long Island teams win every year. Little league World Series is going to a 9/1 cutoff for 2018, so wsyl will copy that as well.

If a kid is born 9/2/2003 in NY and another born 9/2/2003 in MD they are the same I am confused by the argument ......You can't be a holdback in an age based tournament .... Grade don't matter its the age that matters if your kid is in 10th grade and 13 what's the difference from the kid who 13 and in 7th grade? I am so confused by this argument .... don't even make sense AGE IS AGE

The cut off date is 5/1 because wsyl is copying the little league World Series and that is the date they use. It is simple as that. Little league World Series is going to a 9/1 cutoff for 2018, so wsyl will copy that as well. So what will be WSYL date be next year for 2017 ??? May 1 or Sept 1 ??? Website says May 1, but someone here has said they have an email saying Sept 1 ?? The date is 9/1/2003 sorry u didn't get the memo
