On Long Island a kid that is born Sept 1 , 2002 that plays in the 2021 year is a holdback but proper age in most other states including Md and Pa. most of The Long Island kids born before 12/1 will be playing 2020 not 2021. So on Long Island many kids born Sept 2003 are playing on 2020 teams and won't play down on a 2021 team. Igloo could have moved younger kids on the 2020 team to play on the WSYL to improve the 2021 team but did not. Most will not do that. It disrupts the team and the kids don't want to play down. Legacy chose to move those kids down and destroyed everyone. So you are right that age based is normally a fair measure but for a one weekend tournament the long Island teams and kids won't play 2021 when they are 2020 giving the other state teams a chance to win with older kids. If a kid is born 9/2/2003 in NY and another born 9/2/2003 in MD they are the same I am confused by the argument ......You can't be a holdback in an age based tournament .... Grade don't matter its the age that matters if your kid is in 10th grade and 13 what's the difference from the kid who 13 and in 7th grade? I am so confused by this argument .... don't even make sense AGE IS AGE

If Long Island had a Sept 1 school cutoff date you would have a more difficult time beating those teams. I know of a kid that plays and starts on a 2021AA Long Island team born after 9/1/03 and is just under 6 feet 140 lbs. He has been asked to play on a 2022 World Series team for next year. He declined but many other kids like him will say yes and play when asked or tryout for those super teams. Imagine how much better those Long Island teams you barley beat would be adding five kids to each team that are close to 6 feet fastest and skilled. that is what would happen if Long Island hade a 9/1 cut off date. Don't be so confident. You don't know what changes will be made to the teams you beat in the past. All they have to do is pull older kids from the 2021 team and the starters you beat will be on the bench. We have beaten every team from LI with no holdbacks and plan on going to Denver to win it all.

WSYL proved that without holdbacks no state or even region can compete with Long Island teams that are made up of kids who live a few miles apart. This is so even when the Long Island teams were much younger. The holdbacks that Long Island teams have to play are sometimes two years older given the 12/1 lLong Island school cut off. So yes when a Long Island team loses to a much bigger team from another state it usually means the other team had kids as much as two years older. Look what happened at this age based event where Long Island had two of the Youngest teams. All three Long Island teams that entered made it to the final four and there was an all Long Island championship. So the other areas do need age help to compete with Long Island teams. That is why they all cheat when they play Long Island teams. [quote=Anonymous][quote=Anonymous]It will get boring watching Long Island teams win every year. They have to do something to make it interesting. So will everyone admit then that LI has the best lacrosse and the only way other areas can compete is to hold your kids back a couple of years... You LI dads just go around accusing every team you lose to of having holdbacks. Most of the time you're wrong. Try losing without making excuses. The only teams that lost in Colorado were the Maryland teams. Additionally, they had some of the oldest players. Look at the DOBs on the website. Blaze and Igloo were the youngest teams there. Where were the Crabs? Their 2021 team was too old even with the 5/1/02 cutoff. Our team had numerous kids born after 5/1/03. No need to make excuses when our team made it to primetime. Fact. Blaze mainly played the older Crush players they brought along, problem was they were nothing special and were not able to compete with the older kids from the other team. Big embarrassment were their 2 committed defenders there

Correct but most long Island kids born before 12/1/03 will be playing on NY 2021 teams not 2022 teams. Kids from PA and MD and other areas born before 12/1/03 will be playing 2022 and don't have to play down on a team. That is where non NY teams have an advantage which is fine because they need the help. It is not fun and the kids don't learn in blow out games. The WSYL champs proved what long Island teams will do to everyone else in aged based competition. With a cut off of Sept 1 .....
The best Maryland teams will skip it. The better teams are all grade base and have many holdbacks.. Thats why they are the best. Take their advantage away... No way Crabs, FCA, etc even attempt it.

WSYL is a joke. Who cares. Competition sucks. Far to travel. Better teams at tourneys the weeks before and after that one. And stay home July 4th weekend

Wsyl may have just killed itself and will be a joke like dicks TOC and the USL championship. Too many teams have formed around the graduation year requirements and the first tournament with a 2022 televised championship will now be "the championship". Anyone see a Naptown with 2022 stealing all the thunder?

How do we make it fair to compete with the Long Island teams? How about li has a 9/1 cutoff and MD has a 5/1?

The 9/1 cutoff is great, but they just screwed a bunch of kids that could have played last year but didn't thinking they could play this year - only to have wsyl change the dates on them with no notice. Not cool. Wsyl should have a year's notice to transition so they don't leave anyone out.

Don't see it changing back the only reason it was change in the first place was so one team we all know who they are thought they would gain an advantage on another team they would love to have beat and boy did that really back fire. Even with your 2 2020 college commits you still don't make finals and the team you tried to dup did. Yes they did not win in finals but boy was it sweet not to see you on TV..LOL Karma my friends Karma>>>>Karma at its finest not to mention they GET SMOKED IN SEMI'S>>>>>Good Luck this year #NINTONEKARMANEVERFAILS

Who are you talking about Igloo and Blaze or Igloo and the actual Crush Team ? Not a Crush fan, but not a hater, but lets not get stupid, The full actual Crush team would handle Igloo easily, as well they should. Keep things in perspective. The kids from Crush who played in the world series are not close to being the difference makers on that team.

Igloo beat them two times at lax fest. They also beat them at the WSYL qualifier with four crush boys. None of those three games were even close.

This year it WILL be different. The qualifying date has been moved back. 91 has the best (2) 2022 teams on the island to pull from and the 2021AA starter between the pipes. Better not make any early predictions.

91 has too many players that won't qualify from those 2 teams. You'll see now who has,the holdbacks. Express middies are out also.

I am going to bet they move it back to 5/1 and also require 2022 grad year. This is how it was on year 1, last year they made it just age based and people lost their minds. The reason it became 5/1 was because the tournament directors started with 9/1 and teams said they wouldn't go because too many of their players would not be eligable. Then they moved it to 7/1 and teams still said they wouldn't come. They then moved it to 5/1 and that worked for most teams. Time will tell, but that is my bet.

They will never be competitive with America or Canada. Look at the U19 teams. Hard to watch, any decent 2016 US team would have won it all! Which begs the question....where have the Canadians been in this supposed "WSYL"?

Move this tourney to the NE if you really want to have the best teams attend. There are plenty of empty stadiums to use in the NE as well as Denver.

The only reason kids would not be able to go is if they are held back and older than the expected age for the grade. Plenty of clubs will be able to field competitive teams and even bring their whole roster!
