We still need to travel to NJ and Md but I give credit to the organizers for getting this done on LI.

What were some of the surprises?

Team 91 terrible, lost 18-0 in 5th grade championship, parents were rude!

Would assume they are referring to the YJ Skak vs Exspress combo team? Probably wasn't much fun fun for either but done for YJ parent egos. This YJ team took a beating this summer in MD. Skak parents will tell you they were close scoring games but having watched the Skywalkers game at LFC they were flat out man handled. The YJ girls came of the field looking shell shocked bruised and battered.

I watched the game as well , wasn't it won on a late goal. If the score was tied late in the game I really don't know how you can refer to it as man handled unless
you have an ulterior motive. YJ girls were knocked down repeatedly on clears but the other team was carded for these offenses. YJ did not score when man up so you can't knock the strategy. Skywalkers played a tough game and won hats off to them.

Assuming you watched the game as a YJ parent? No ulterior motive other than to say you got handled by a much more physical team. If you don't step up it will only get worse if you really want to play agaisnt the best. Otherwise enjoy dominating the LI circuit.

Skywalkers parents as classy as always.

The rest of us parents from MD apologize.

The Igloo 2023 team is awesome, so is Thorns YJ 2023 team and Wrights. There were no 6th graders on YJ 2023 as you could see Igloo was much taller and more physically developed, at least 3 girls were 3-5 inches over tallest YJ player. Stop the garbage. We're 2 great games both on razors edge. Igloo was up 5-3 in 1st game till YJ scored 5 unanswered goals. So many talented girls both teams.

To the LI teams who don't play the year older same bracket monster Maryland teams but make fun of YJ teams who do and loose some / win some. Go down there and take your beatings or zip it. Sickening. WT

Stop it. The MD girls teams are not a year older. These are lies spread on LI to explain why you get your asses kicked when you play the MD teams. Girls don't repeat grades like Boys. While I understand that the school cutoff date is a couple months later on LI, if you think the few girls born in those months is the difference you can keep making excuses. Don't belittle the work the MD girls put in.

This blog is the evidence of the reason LI is slipping behind. All the infighting amongst the clubs up there is insane. Put your differences aside and start a spring league for the club teams. Our teams practice together starting in January to prepare for Spring Club seasons. So by the time our girls see you guys, they have been practicing together for 5 months. There is no doubt that is a huge advantage. Not the few girls on a team that may be a couple months older.

Wrights team won all games by double digits including a shut out in the championship. Should be playing in the same division as Thorn

Double digit wins and thumping your chest? Your team sandbagged the division placement again and your coach didn't call off the dogs. Pathetic

If you were at this game, you would know there was no chest thumping. Based on play in the previous 4 tournaments, both YJ teams should not be in the same bracket. Relax, and get the facts before you rant. I do agree that the double digit wins suck for both teams. Neither team gets any benefit from a lopsided win or loss. As a parent, i could care less about winning a T-Shirt. I'd rather see my daughter compete and get better every week even if its losing all our games.

Only about 30% of our game this summer have been competitive. Is it like that every year because all this travel is a joke for what is happening on the field. The team dinners and pool parties are great but with all the politics of who wont play who and who sets up the divisional brackets to ensure some teams a clear path to finals is BS

But it was ok for 91 to do some kind of weird chest bump every time they scored when beating up other teams! Way over the top, need to tone that down!

This pretty much sums up the travel lacrosse scene. if you play on a high level for a top team, most games wont be all that competitive, you'll win some and lose some.
Once you get to recruiting age, and start emailing coaches, attending camps/clinics at various colleges expect even more traveling and hotels.
in the end 99% of kids get some money to play in college. ( a 1/4 or a 1/3 off tuition is about it). BUT.. lacrosse can get kids into a college their grades and other extracurricular stuff some times can't ( you still cant have a 75 GPA and get into UNC though)
As a parent, sit back and enjoy the ride, don't yell at her or the ref..just clap
if you can afford to do it, the time spent together is priceless

How many non-yellow jackets were there? Interesting idea if you could truly get the best from both counties.

Agree it was a fun night and good game. Give those Nassau girls kudos for basically hanging with the top YJ team. I bet if they had a few practices together and some time with their coach it could have gone either way. Really great to see some of the other talent out there as well. Overall nice job to the organizers for pulling the girls together and finding some top talent.

You will never have "all the best" players. I doesn't matter if there are tryouts or if the team is selected based on HS/Club Coach recommendation. Some very good players are always left out . It is the same on the boys side, Team USA, U19 USA, HS All American, UA Seniors, UA Underclass, Nassau Vs Suffolk etc...
With all of the "All Star Teams" just about every player selected strong and earned the opportunity to be there. That said, there will always be other players who are just as deserving who do not make it.

My daughter is a "Non-Yellow Jacket" and she was there. She had fun and the game was competitive. YJ's top teams (from what I have seen) have some of the best players on the Island and also have the most depth. The top players at Elevate, Top Guns and Liberty are all very strong as well but most of those teams do not have the depth or as many ... dare I say "elite" players.

If your daughter has an opportunity to play next year I would recommend it.

Agreed! Non-YJ and I admit I was skeptical but by daughter had a blast and they made the girls feel special. For a brief moment in time there was no YJ/TG/Elevate bashing. Not sure what the behind the scene politics or if certain clubs flat out won't nominate players but it was a good time and a more competive game then the majority of what we played this summer.

She looked good out there but not everyone aspires to be on the top YJ team. Sometimes it's better to be a big fish in a small pond.

100% agree, and that not only includes YJ but any club that is considered "elite". My daughter has played on such a club in previous years and although was wasn't one of the top 5-6 girls, she certainly had the talent to be there. She played, but was frustrated as were many of the other girls with the lack of consistent playing time. We switched clubs and now she is one of the leaders of the team, seeing the field for most of the game. Best move we ever made.

Agreed, it was a great very competitive event! Nice to see Elevate, Wave, TG and YJ and Liberty play together in a game that came down to 1 goal! The talent was certainly amongst the best on Long Island, a few were Newsday top 100 but more importantly almost all committed to very good D1& 2 schools. Heard this might be the last year but hoping that's a rumor. Best of luck to everyone.

Agreed, certainly not true. Igloo is a strong club, but there is no need to pull in hired guns for that game, or any game. That's not how YJ plays. That YJ team was the regular roster team. Case closed.

Yes, as a matter of fact all of the TG girls close to participate in this event rather than go to Virginia, and like other posters have stated it was a great night and so wonderful to see girls who are considered amongst the top 2017 not only play but laugh and hug after the game! I think any girl selected next year should participate
