This week, Back Of The CAGE caught up with the #8 ranked senior on Long Island and from Garden City High School, Jack Cascadden for our weekly Senior Spotlight series interviewing a new senior each week.
Jack Cascadden, has proven himself playing as a Faceoff in Garden City HS and now has chosen to serve Cornell University. Let's see what he has to say in our weekly Senior Spotlights Q&A series.
Q&A w/ Jack Cascadden
BOTC: What is your favorite saying from your Coach Steve? Jack Cascadden: My favorite saying Coach Finnell uses is "It's never the hello, but always the goodbye". This quote emphasizes the idea of how a season and team is defined by how it finishes and never how it starts.
BOTC: How much extra motivation (if any) does it give to you personally and to your teammates in the short amount of time that you guys have been practicing together?JC: This quote roams through the back of all the guys on our team and provides a feeling of unity and comradery like no other.
BOTC: How much more will you treasure this season as this will be the last time that you will be playing high school lacrosse before going on to play at the collegiate level? JC: This season means everything. For me personally, this is my first real length season with Garden City. It's the last time I will be wearing the maroon and white as well so it definitely hits deep. Playing under Coach Finnell, Coach Jacovina, and Coach Holman has been a true honor, and I'm excited to have one more season with them.
BOTC: What made you choose to attend Cornell University and what other colleges were you considering? JC: The people. From the second I picked up their phone call, I knew I was home. Fortunately enough for me, I know a few of the players on this year's team from my hometown, and they always emphasize the idea of family. This was something I was chasing during my recruitment process. The coaches are some of the coolest guys as well. I feel as if I can go to them with anything, and I haven't even started my journey in Ithaca yet.
BOTC: Are you superstitious and do you have any pre-game rituals?JC: I try not to be superstitious because I want to be able to perform under any conditions and not just the ones that I want. Being comfortable in the uncomfortable is a huge point of emphasis for me.
BOTC: What's on your playlist before games?JC: Polo g is definitely on the pre-game playlist. Also, love Avicii to get the blood flowing.
BOTC: Aside from the trainings, what are other hobbies you usually like to-do?JC: Aside from training, I love tossing a football around. I've had it in my hand since I was born and it's definitely a part of me. I feel at home with it in my hand and it provides me a feeling of comfort like nothing else. It's natural.
