ABOUT THE UNITED WOMENS LACROSSE LEAGUE (UWLX):
The United Womens Lacrosse League (UWLX) gives the worlds best female lacrosse players the opportunity to stay in the game and play post-collegiate, professional lacrosse. Lacrosse is the fastest-growing youth and high school sport in America with a high potential for continued growth and increased interest around the world, including as the next Olympic sport.
The UWLX drafted its first teams in April 2016 and kick off its first 10-week inaugural season on May 28, 2016 during the 2016 Final Four weekend in Pennsylvania, with teams representing Boston, Long Island, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Each teams GM and Head Coach will announced their 20 member team rosters in early May 2016.
The United Womens Lacrosse League is the first professional womens sports league launched by United Womens Sports, LLC in strategic partnership with the Play It Forward Sport Foundation. United Womens Sports is a female-owned and female-operated company whose mission is to establish and govern operations of professional leagues and create opportunities for women to work in professional sports for a variety of womens sports.
The Play It Forward Sport Foundation, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization focused on providing opportunities for female athletes to increase their earning potential off the field. PIFS will compensate female athletes for work in the community using their skills to educate, mentor and train participants on any number of initiatives. It will partner with corporations and other organzations to create opportunities for the athletes to put the skills they have learned as elite athletes to better the community. In creating this strategic partnership, it was the vision of the founders, Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby to create a contemporary model that represents a real paradigm shift in womens professional sports and provides a solution to keep the most talented players in the game... because they can earn a reasonable salary. If the most talented players stay in the game then the best sport product will be presented to the fans!
Together, the two organizations create and enhance opportunities for women as professional athletes, as managers, as executives and as leaders in sports industry. With this first initiative, the UWLX has created over 100 opportunities for women in sports--as athletes, GMs, Coaches and administration.
