that must be why all those 8th + 9th graders play varsity on that powerhouse program Look, C schools are, by definition, smaller in student population. That means there's less talent to choose from. Ergo, more room for younger talent.

Right when you have a school with 675 students as opposed to 1500 not as easy to find as many quality players

other than the few middle school students on these teams........WHO Cares. Win and you can play in playoffs...that goes for the "bigger" schools whose parents are upset that their middle schooler isnt playing varsity. Get real. What a bunch of "whiners"

Please remove Diana Rienzo and Christine Rienzo from your list. They turned down the Siena offer for a variety of reasons.

Suffolk's Cinelli Discusses Fewer High School ChampionshipsStory reprinted from Newsday High School Sports, March 18th Suffolk County's top high school sports official has introduced the idea of eliminating or curtailing state championships because of the high cost of participation. "We love the state championships, but financially it's a burden," Section XI executive director Ed Cinelli said. "That's the reason we want to discuss this. For the 2011-12 school year, there is not a single state championship on Long Island. We're traveling for everything. There's a huge cost to that. We'd like to bring some events down here." School districts, which help support Sections VIII and XI -- the governing bodies for sports in Nassau and Suffolk respectively -- through dues, are under tremendous financial pressure, struggling with the fallout from reduced state aid, staff layoffs, escalating pension costs and staying within the mandated 2 percent cap on property tax increases. Cinelli said it cost Section XI more than $200,000 in travel expenses for the 2010-11 school year to send Suffolk teams or individual athletes to state championships. The New [lacrosse] State Public High Schools Athletic Association reimburses each of the state's 11 sections for some transportation costs for state tournaments, but not for all travel costs. The remainder of the article is available at Newsday's web site.

Since Suffolk has not started yet, some news from the east. Attended the Hauppauge/Bay Shore game and Bay Shore girls team looks pretty strong this season. Score was around 8-4 (about) but seemed that the teams were playing nearly full tilt. Anyone else see Bay Shore yet this season in Suffolk?

Haha, okay. It was a close game, back and forth the whole time. RP was up by 3 at one point but BBP closed the gap before running out of clock. A couple warnings by the refs to the coaches of both teams, a pretty equal number of yellows on each side, it was an exciting game. That's about as succinct as I can get. I heard these teams will not be rematched at the round robin thing RP is hosting on Saturday, but I still don't know who else is attending.

Yes I watched them play yesterday. I went to watch my niece play for West Babylon. Classy coach, didn't run score up although at one point it was 11-1 Bay Shore. Very very strong offensively with a number of kids that can play. I don't know who they are since they didn't have rosters or announcing. I will look at Newsday High School Sports for game recap.

Anyone care to comment on some early season surprises? How are the top ranked teams doing? Suffolk League I The first surprise so far has to be Bay Shore. Not so much for their wins, but because both of their first two games were over at halftime (12-4, 9-3). Seems that the tank has much more to give and the goals are coming from all over the field. Also in Suffolk, Sachem North, Sachem East, Ward Melville, and Northport are all off to expected starts. West Islip at 1-2 is off slowly, but their win was against Massapequa who many were saying looked great in their 13-12 OT comeback yesterday. Suffolk League II Still like Hauppauge from last season along with Sayville and Rocky Point. Remain fearful of Mount Sinai - this was the very young varsity team from last year and returning most of the squad. With only one match against Westhampton done, hard to know where they really stand, but these figure to be the top four across the board.
