Any one have any other insight into this try out?
Who were the evaluators? all YJ, TG, Elevate, a mix, HS coaches?
Was the competition "better" because it was a U19 tryout year?
Were there more "committed" players there?
Anyone sneak in and watch?
Any blatant horror stories?

Buy a new helmet or rip off the school decals for a tryout?
How about kids with school colored sticks? Some have school names dyed into them. Should they buy new sticks for a tryout?
Your an idiot. DUHHHHH

They do the best they can to make the kids anonymous but you have to be realistic, their are certain kids you could put in a disguise yet when they get on the field everyone who knows they are. Some of the kids size, speed, stick skills etc.make it obvious who they are, nothing you can do about it, sometimes it works for them sometimes it works against them.

With multiple kids and multiple tryouts I have been on both sides of the argument. tryouts are imperfect at best, select team try outs, club tryouts whatever, there are deserving kids who do not make it and undeserving kids who do. But within that they get a fair amount of the makes and rejects correct as well. It is easy to be familiar with all the kids say on a particular team, know the strong ones and weak ones, then watch some selection committee completely get it wrong. Chaulk it up to the limitations of the process.

This mom is on the mark. we shouldn't waste our time trying to give everyone a fare chance, what would happen if a girl from a school like Longwood or Holy Trinity had a good day and took a spot from a more deserving girl from a better school. Personally, I think the try out process is archaic, why do we even bother, we should just invite the girls that have made the papers, and have the most goals, and belong to the "best " clubs, and when they show up they should have to ware there uniforms so that the coaches know exactly who they are. That way they wouldn't even need there sticks, or have to run or anything. lets keep Long Island lacrosse pure, and not let the riff- raf in. go Yellow Jacket

Stupid comment at best.
All the previous post said was there is no way to make the better well known kids anonymous. No matter the markings on their helmets or sticks. Coaches and parents all know who they are. YJ or TG doesn't matter. They all played together at UA last summer and play against each other every year. BTW they are also all friends so you parents need to stop the HATFIELD VS MCCOY nonsense This subject is so ridiculous and started by someone who's kid simply isn't up to par yet and they can't accept that. Happens every year.

Way to twist it moron. You don't deserve a fair share because of that comment. Guess you want your kid to make it even though she doesn't deserve it. Yeah that's fair.

Open the tryouts? Are you dumb or just a stay at home housewife / mommy with nothing better to do. Kids don't need distractions, especially looking up in the stands and seeing you. All LI varsity HS coaches are invited to be evaluators. FACT. CR did not attend the 2014 trouts. FACT. LI Liberty Founder and Manhasset varsity coach is LI Metro Team One coach, which means she is running the show. Fact. All you YJ haters stop with the whining. Stop wasting time and effort making up conspiracy theories.

Brine is a 2nd tier tourney made up of lower level athletes. I love all the parents last year who bragged that their daughter was a "Brine All American". What a joke. Save your money. US Lax School Girls and UA uncommitted and underclass games much better tourneys. It was a college coaches "who's who" at both last year. Ton of exposure and well organized.

The problem with tryouts is if your daughter plays good "team" lacrosse, she will not make the cut. Passing, ball movement all goes out the window as soon as the go to goal girl gets the ball, and that 75% of the girls there at the try out. Every girl that touches the ball looking to dodge their way through a triple team. Makes for some ugly watching with the girls who actually know how to play the game watching. So what is the solution? Unfortunately it is to play with the same mentality and go to goal yourself, again compounding the problem.

Stop your whining mommy. If you never joined YJ why hate them so much? Go to Newsday Sports (on-line) and check out the college commitment pages for girls lacrosse for the past 10 years. The majority of girls (past and present) played YJ. Can't argue with success, but YJ is not for everyone, so go play for one of the other quality clubs and stop bashing YJ. It is so old and overdone.

Brine was a waste. Went down to MD for the tournament. Very few college coaches. Competition was decent. This year it's even more of a money grab with the extra $ for an extra game/tryout. Glad we did it last year but wouldn't do it again.

don't be surprised if these supposed yellow jacket haters and critics are actual yellow jackets themselves, just hoping to stir the pot. same goes for the other clubs.

The evaluators are high school coaches. Most of them do not run camps. The YJ program hires these coaches for summer jobs. The Suffolk coaches never see the Nassau girls play and visa versa. If you think your player is that "famous" that everyone in the lax world knows her, you need to wake up!

So w your theory the selection process is fair in that most of the kids are not known by the evaluators prior to the tryout

So is making this team for the purpose of representing LI against other areas for the championship? Or is it a recruiting event?
It was mentioned earlier that the event was a who's who of college coaches... If everyone is committed who are they watching?

You are so wrong ask Larry to find out what High School coaches were the evaluators and then find out how many kids from the schools they coach on are on the rosters! You will be amazed how slanted they really are. I hope Larry has those kind of resources.

Yes, about half the evaluators were from Suffolk high schools and half were from Nassau. They were from the A,B,C and Catholic HS conferences. So what I am saying is that a HS coach from the C class in Suffolk would not recognize or may have never even seen a Class A "superstar" from Nassau ever play. With that said, we all know that Newsday and MSG Varsity is a joke. They only focus on players and teams that call into them. They get it right part of the time, but get it wrong more often. My opinion.

Why didn't you just ask your daughter? Definitely Manhasset, GC, North Shore and East Meadow. I think Northport, but am not sure. Of course there were others too but I can't remember all that my daughter mentioned.

Certain High Schools have anywhere from four to six players on the rosters and there coaches were the evaluators. It's that simple don't be so damn naive. One young lady was ill for a better part of the day and still made a roster. She happens to be good enough to be there but a "tryout" is a "tryout" unless your coach is an evaluator. Get the numbers of what high schools these kids play at and you will the "coincidence" wink wink of what schools the evaluators coach.

Stop w the conspiracy theories already, asked my kid said she knew who several of the evaluators were but did not seem any school or club was overly represented . All high school coaches can apply to be evaluators you should ask your high school coach if they applied.

Weren't the evaluators supposed to be selecting the best players at the tryout? Based on the players names/colleges they committed to...seems like a talented group...
