You are correct at that. A lot of the MD kids are repeat a grade ones, including the 2017 class, who are still relatively undersized for their class despite that. The advantages recede over time and UVa and UNC winds up with U-15AA standouts who failed to advance physically or lacrosse wise

This list of LI kids on Ivy rosters is indeed impressive. I think the point is a good one but the comparative is off. Lacrosse in Maryland is really two hotbeds. Obviously there is Baltimore County and the MIAA schools. Next there is the DC area that includes the Maryland and Northern Virginia burbs and the IAC schools (Landon, Gtown Prep, St. Stephens Agnes, etc.) and the parochial league (Gonzaga, Paul VI, etc.). If you look at the Ivy rosters again through this lens, you'll see quite a difference on some rosters, Princeton is most pronounced. Actually, the prep school with the most currently rostered players is Landon in Bethesda, MD which sits right on the Virginia border and has a lot of players from the other side of the Potomac.
I think one of the posters making something of a demographic or social difference between LI and Maryland is correct. I lived in Manhattan for a number of years and now live in Maryland. NY money is bigger and louder than Maryland. So are the parents. Yes, LI Express lunatic parents, that means you. Are Maryland people economically small time by compare? Yes. Are Maryland lacrosse players better or worse than LI players? No. Some of the best players we saw last Summer were not from either, and the best team last Summer at the most competitive tournament -- Young Gunz -- was Dukes from the Philly main line. Md players are marketed better but much less productive at the next level. Good points, all. Yet I have to object to the NY crowd being called louder lunatics. . The lunacy is not that they/we are overly aggressive; it's that our kids usually have to come to the Maryland backyard to play in great tournaments and have to use higher level LAX skills to overcome the physically aggressive "reclassifieds" in order to compete. Time and tie again, we see the frustration of the older and bigger Md players who are being outplayed by true 2017's who then must resort to overt aggression to compensate. It does make for an angry and vociferous NY sideline who are pained to watch their kids get bashed by others who are potentially 2 years older in some cases. Lunacy? Nahhh...just pissed off that the age discrepancy was and is allowed at that critical age.

You want empathy for driving to Boys Latin or Univ of Delaware fields to play the best from West and East Coasts? None here. When The LI Express lost all their games to Crabs, VLC and Madlax last Summer and this Fall none of the games I saw were chippy. There was not a single penalty called in one game LI Express lost to VLC by 6 goals. VLC has three repeat a grade kids and only one of them starts. Yes, the rest of those kids are bigger, better skilled and more physical and they are 14. Working on the family farm in Loudon County develops some true grit. Stop whining and go to Zabars already. Or toughen up and compete better.

There are 19 (or 20) D1 commits in the 2017 class thus far, 4 from MD 1 from VA 3 from Long Island How many of those 8 players are held back and are they from MD, VA or Long Island?

You can't hang in your true age group and your looking for an advantage, do you think LI people are not going to bring attention to it? Your teaching your kids to take SHORT CUTS. And there are a few of our fellow LI'ers that are cheating also. And forget about it when it comes to the kids from CO., they are all married with homes and kids! LOL.

You LI guys love excuses. Sure, some held backs have verbaled early. But they do not consitute the best players in the area. The two best lefty attackmen, the best righty attackman, and the top one or two players in the area at pole, middie and goalie are all better recruits than the current commits listed in this area. They all have three things in common. They play for VLC, they average close to 6'0 180 & they are all 14. I 14 years old. Different flacor of tough down here. You don't like, don't come back for another taste.

My understanding is that of the 4 or now 5 2017 D1 committs from MD, only the kid going to OSU is not a holdback. He is 14 and a true freshman by age. Obviously a rare thing there in Maryland. All the others are holdbacks.

Because that would be too HARD, we need the easy way set for our kids these days. Sad but true. "When the tough gets going", we teach to find the easy way out.

All the others are holdbacks. Yes, 5 of the 6 MD and VA commits are repeat a grade kids. I won't use the term reclassified. That is a term for sissy parents raising sissy kids. The single 14 year old is a very talented FCA / Calvert Hall player. But you are being unfair. Madlax had two recruitable players, both repeats, and they are both committed. Balt Crabs is loaded with recruitable players and a few of them are repeaters, so fair point and criticism. FCA Baltimore, VLC are loaded with top prospects and I do know that VLC has only two repeaters and FCA has only one. Breakers is a very decent team and has a few recruits we know of because our son is friends who are legit 14 year olds in the correct grade. A lot has been made of the MD/DC area repeaters, but in fairness this seems to be an unfortunate trend in other regions as well and hardly an isolated item in the MD/DC area to make much a point of. And if you are in the know, you could literally fill two starting line-ups with the uncommitted kids from FCA, VLC, Madlax, Balt Crabs, Breakers and Annapolis Hawks/St. Mary's with better recruits before touching a name of a locally committed kid. No joke...the best of the best in MD/DC are not committed and it is wholly unfair to say they are serial repeaters. All of VLC's elite recruits are 14. Hard to believe standing next to them, but they are legit and just big strong kids for their age. Three poles and a goalie all going 6'0 and from 180-200 is no fun for the LI people, but we ain't sellin' it as fun Broseph. If it hurts your self esteem too much to play us, then stay home.

2 line ups full of better recruits on these teams than the kids already committed locally, says the dad who's kid is obviously still on the board and hopelessly going to prospect days and hoping for the blue chip and maverick invites. How was the play in in Florida? Just look at their list of schools that they committed to and that recruited them and they turned down. The best of the best, for a reason. Typical. MD/VA parent.

Pa is catching right up with the reclassifing game. Dukes will have plenty on their squad this summer. Not sure why those kids don't continue to play their own age to challenge themselves. While there are some "reclassified" players on Dukes it isn't as wide spread as your ill informed post makes it seem. Part of the misconception is being driven by the number of public school players that transfer to the much tougher InterAc schools. Some have been asked by the school to reclassify because of academic reasons and yes there are a small handful that have done it for athletic reasons but the total number is still very small. The 2017 HHH team that beat the Express, the Crabs and the Turtles at YounGunz didn't have any reclassified players on it at the time. Now it has one. If it makes you feel better about yourself to accuse them of bending the rules to explain why they beat the top teams on Long Island go right ahead. It says more about you than it does them. Signed a Dukes parent.

So much chest-flexing on this board. Many, many good kids haven't committed yet. Only 20 kids have committed so far. High school lax season hasn't even started for these boys. Ivys have no commits, Patriot League has 1 commit, Georgetown no commits, etc. Congrats to all of the boys who have committed (yes, including the "re-classifieds"). Relax and let your boys enjoy the process. If they are good enough, they will have an opportunity. And it doesn't mean they aren't as good if they don't commit soon. A lot of that mentality (althought not all) is being driven by the parents.

My brother skipped a grade in elementary school, graduated HS at 16 and although a very good athlete for is age never played sports in HS because he was too small and younger then everybody. He graduated College in 3 years while still only 19, I always thought he had an unfair advantage over other kids his age because he had two years work experience before other kids his age graduated college. While I am sure if he had it too do all over again he would give up all the money and success he has to just get that extra year of HS lacrosse.

I'm so tired of looking at this site and seeing age nonsense. Everybody made a point, now move on to some stuff that might help a few of us.
The funny thing is I know who most of you are because you say the same nonsense to me every time I see you at games.
What are the hot prospect camps in January's calender, I think more are popping up. Who are the emerging schools on all three divisions. This would would be good stuff, I guess nobody wants to show their hand. What Schools have great young Coaches.
