Think there was only one at the time with JB. JB knows the game well and has done a good job of managing and developing alot of talent with his club teams in the past with M&D and now with Coppermine. He does tend to have a bad reputation but I think that is the challenge of having a strong team with only so many playing minutes. Either way, good for him to not have to work with MV coach in the future based just on BR reputation. Also heard that MV is adding a fresh/soph team this year to go along with JV and Varsity. Wonder what that will do to all the kids and parents who got playing time commitments from MV coach as one of the reasons they picked there. He has yet to do anything with Coppermine that can be added to his track record. His 2026 team is ranked 95 and has only just this year started coaching the 30s.

JB started with a red team at M&D and coached at a public high school. I respect that. Most coaches only want to "coach" teams that are already strong. Skywalkers tried to get their high school coaches to coach white teams instead of blue and they didn't want to. It's easy to coach a blue or black team.

BR is the one who dangles playing time in HS as well as the potential to play in college for his wife.

He also did not have a good reputation as a HS coach prior to going to MV after being let go from Westminster and Manchester Valley.

What’s the best way to transfer from a public school into private school for 10th grade. Should the coach be contacted first?

What’s the best way to transfer from a public school into private school for 10th grade. Should the coach be contacted first? For iaam, coach can't talk to you until you reach out to school first. You should fill out the interest form on their website, then admin should be informing coach so he/she can then reach out directly.

What’s the best way to transfer from a public school into private school for 10th grade. Should the coach be contacted first? Contact the head coach as you initiate the admission process. The coach should be able to give you an honest assessment on where they would stand athletically. They also may be able to help guide you through the admissions process as well.

Posting in Maryland and Long Island HS Forums:
Dies anyone know anything about a new NIL tournament being run by LM (using initials here in case not allowed) Apparently $100k in NIL. 32 team National HS championship in PA. Details seem sparse but 32 team tournament next June. Also wondering if anyone knows of any HS applying?

Check your local rules before you make that move. Where I live the transferred student can’t play school sports for the first year, which would be devastating if there is a plan to play college lacrosse.

Assuming your public school has decent lacrosse team check the IAMM roster sizes and playing time before you jump. There's lot of great lax players not making teams till junior or senior year and even then sitting the bench out of shear numbers.

Look at STM they let anyone in their school. Academics are average but at least they don’t have a waiting list like all the other private schools.

That good to know that it only costs 30K to get an average education at a Prep School in Annapolis while sitting on bench watching lacrosse .

Is this a serious question ??? McDonogh, St. paul's, soon to be Maryvale, NDP which had to cut its roster from college size of 45 down to 38. There's four examples for you. Like the poster said it's because of numbers of lax players. Maryvale had to create fresh/soon teams because they've brought in so many lax players lately.

Several of the Maryvale JV players from last year have been seen on shadow days at other schools for a mid-year transfer saying they were not happy being on JV last year. Will be interesting to see how many do actually leave.

We get it, your daughter got played a bad hand, Maybe their is a reason she is on the bench and not the field.

Garrison coach also out. Who is replacing her? Old RPCS coach just announced as an assistant at McDonogh.

It’s about getting a good education and prepped for college. Public schools are not up to the task anymore. Overcrowded, lack of discipline, teachers unable to teach the basics.

Is it worth paying $15-30k a year on high school to end up playing at the same college as a public school player? Is it a Baltimore status thing? All depends, The first three questions any Baltimoron asks is 1. What school do your kids go to, answer Better be a top private that costs 15-30. 2. Where do you live , answer Better be a good area, Ruxton, Balt County ( Good Parts) , etc 3. What do you do , answer Some Professional.. Lawyer, Doctor, Business Owner, etc After that , most private school moms and dads can tell if you qualify for further small talk. So you need to answer a question with your own question. If you answered 2 or 3 wrong, doesnt matter about private. But if you answered 2 or 3 Right, well.....Do you want to join the Club or not. Public school will not get you at the table or playing at MD.

This is not a one size fits all situation. It is kid specific. Maybe the switch was because of a social situation, focus on education, problem with a specific lacrosse position, ie, celebrity goalie that isn’t going away. I switched my kids from public to private and it was a great move for my family - helped one kid get into D1 program and helped one kid get into a college (non athletic) they wouldn’t have gotten to otherwise hanging out with their old HS crew. Again, different kids will behave differently and create opportunities for themselves that others may not.

Lotsa variables in that question. And it's not an exact science. Need more info. Depends what public hs your daughter would go to and what college she wants to play for. Also depends on her club. If it's a top 50ish hs program in MD, and an elite club, it's certainly possible. There are tons of d1 schools out there that need players. Talking in generalities,it does get easier/harder depending on where that hs and club team falls on the scale.

It's also a level of competition thing. Overall public school schedules @ChillLaxin. Meanwhile most every game for iaam schools will be top level competion. Much better for college prep.

This is the biggest misconception and falsity that goes on the Maryland when discussing public vs private. Plenty of public schools kids go to Maryland and many other top 25 programs. The private school coaches do a great job in the Baltimore area convincing families you have to go private to go to a top D1 school. And the parent fomo is real in Maryland. Your decision to go to private schools should be academic focused and lacrosse should be a secondary concern. If your kid is on one of the top 3 club programs in Maryland. Is a starter and contributor, public vs. private has little impact on their college lacrosse placement.

You are correct that players from public go on to play at top programs, they do, but it is a much easier ride if they attend privates and the odds are better in their favor. Rest of questions above is spot on. I was tired of answering them so I had a business card printed with all three questions answered on it. I just give it to anyone I meet for the first time in Balt. Gets the formalities talk out of way.

Would put districts like Manhasset, Garden City, and Cold Spring Harbor over any of those Mickey Mouse schools in IAAM/ Baltimore.
