Just watched it on the 'Gram and you're right. I guess the question is how in the world did the kid get such a free 1 on 1 with the goalie running full speed downhill for 15 yards?

Tryout season among us. What teams are going to have big movement? Any pre tryout movement happening? Who will be the big winners or losers?

FCA with two teams, Crabs AC shows up to 91 tryouts as an evaluator (and AC?) with son and others to follow next week is the word, and top HOCO kids headed out. Welcome to youth sports y'all, where the delusional parents exist

There's a new batch of s uckers born each year.

Good luck to the families that choose the fca b teams.

You'll need it.

Do yourself a favor and choose literally any other club.

Why the “sucker” comment? what is the issue with the club?

My guess is the club runs like most- the A teams are generally good, and B teams are generally not.

Parents often choose B teams after being cut and expect the same level of lacrosse as their A teams. It doesn't happen. I think the white teams are less about lacrosse and more of a mission and fundraising effort for the club.

Getting cut and then playing B is not good for the players psyche. Have him tryout for another lesser club and tell him any number of reasons he did not make first Club, Coaches plays favorites, Club is on way down, Evaluators were not looking or know what they were doing, so lucky didnt make it, etc, etc ... Once he makes club, get him some private lessons and knowledge of game.

If he doesnt make second tryout, Play Rec if he really wants to play lacrosse and get a couple tutors for school as he sure isnt going to make much of himself in lacrosse.

HOCO boys got 3 ex D1 High Point player coaches (moving on from dad coaches), team has a solid AAA base but may have some spots if anyone in that skill range needs a home. Their 2nd round tryouts are next Friday 7/26 6-8 at Cedar Lane park in Columbia

This is only 3rd hand info so take with a grain of salt, team did lose starters but the majority of the team is remaining and they have all been playing together at AAA for a few years so not a wipeout by any means. I think they already picked up some starters from other teams which will help. Also possible they pick up more at the second tryout next week (I don't know if it was strategy or just logistics that spread the tryouts out?). So decent chance they stay AAA, obviously no way to really know how teams compete until fall tournaments so time will tell.

There are 2 times in your son's sports "career" when 91MD is an option that will feature and in any way develop and benefit him...

Either come in as a student who displaces the youth players after 8th grade, or a last chance to do it after 9th.

This is true for many clubs that are elite level in HS. Buyer beware. Joining one in 3rd grade has no bearing on 9th grade and beyond.

Clippers would have to completely overhaul that roster if they want to be remotely competitive in Elite.

NL wins the off season, adds a completely new attack, one from ML, one from Hawks, one from 30 NL. Have to be the early HOCO favorite.

Crabs lose a HC, will they lose others? Wolfpack merger still strong, battled this summer at top tournaments.

Hawks lost a starting attack, who replaces him?

ML lost an attackman, multiple B team parents demanding their kids deserve an A team spot after a AAA HOCO championship. How does ML handle the egos of 2 championship winning teams.

VLC wins crabfest, Clippers undefeated at Crabfest, primed to step up in HOCO. Will they stay in the elite division?

FCA, huge turnout at tryouts, ready to make noise in elite?

Looking forward, NL is the early favorite, can anyone match their off season additions?

ML attackman wasn't getting time at ML and won't be top three attack at NL. Other attack moved to middie. NL probably has most overall talent, but ML will continue to play as a team and be competitive. Crabs offense will be dynamic adding two from the 30s, including probably the best lefty attack in the 31 class, but the word is that Crabs is light on the defensive side. Clippers seemed to have added some kids, including from Crabs, and Preds added some solid players. Will be interesting to see how they all play. Hopefully more competition across elite.

That's not how (or why) Hoco elite recruiting works, or at least, not all at once.

Business model #1
1. Clippers (or any new team) would plan to get demolished in Year 1.
2. Their presence in the Elite division will be enough to draw 2nd and 3rd line kids next summer from other elite teams
3. Rinse and repeat, keep adding new players and lose the AA/AAA players you had early on, gradually improve with the goal of making elite playoffs.

Business model #2
1. New team in elite gets demolished in Year 1.
2. Rinse and repeat because the club doesn't take youth lax seriously, and most of the youth roster will get cut after 8th grade. Bear this in mind when you start to hear club directors and coaches talk about "loyalty" and "family" etc.

Hearing Madlax lost one of their main coaches.

Yikes, why the attack on the Clippers? It reads personal almost. Kid didn't make it? Programs first year at elite. It’s a process for them or any other team making a jump in division.

NL will over take ML this year. ML didn't pick up anyone while NL improved in all areas. With the departure of the ML coach, other top players will look to leave.

Unless ML lost the head coach, then I doubt it will be a problem. But NL will be tough to beat.

Reality is that when a team loads up, quality players get less playing time and start to cycle out because, after all, what's the point of this racket if your son isn't getting run or, for example, relegated to defensive middie when he has offensive aspirations? If a club director is focused solely on winning 6th grade HoCo, then that will come at the expense of player development. Although quite talented, ML has consistently won, not necessarily because they have superior talent, but because they have retained quality players that know the offense. The star today is unlikely to be the star in 8th grade, so best parents can do is make sure that their boy's club offers a healthy balance of competitive play and opportunity.

It wasnt the HC but a coach that is very well respected and a key to why many of the players have stayed together on the team. Will be interesting if there is some fall out after the year with his departure. Brining in college kids to coach and fill voids isnt going to caught it.
