I know you're trolling, but I think the predictions of Gilman's forthcoming demise are overstated - they bring back at least one top level player at every position group (G/D/M/A) and have a plus Goalie and FOGO. They won't be deep but if the 2026 class can step up they should make noise again.

McDonogh will continue to be the class of the league, and I don't really think boarding has anything to do with it. They just attract top talent and are currently riding a core group of players that came there from the best 2026 club in the country. I'm not aware of any OOS players on McD's roster, but I could be wrong.

BL is another story altogether. They had a dozen OOS players on their roster this year.

McD underachieve for years with some great talent. Seem to fad every year in playoffs.

MM whatever you think about him and his ways, he has given McD a gift with his sons and their Club teammates. I suspect they will be at top of MIAA again next year fighting for ship. Winning brings better players and McD at this time is on a roll. You can bet the local players in 6th-10th would love to play there if they could. McD is not shy about helping great local talent get in with many different ways.

Didnt know that many OOS players were on BL. If so, that may be a warning for things to come. Especially if BL gets on a roll with some big help from OOS players, CH , McD wont watch them do that without some reaction.

And if SP would have gone along with MM and re-classes little MM, they would have had the dynasty now instead of McD. I agree McD is tough to beat next year and should stay strong for a few years following due to inertia. CHS continues to drop without Kelly sponsorship of OOS players. They will keep the big bench but talent will continue to thin and they are out of kids with the last name Kelly.

MM was at Gilman briefly too shopping around too. Coached there a year . Only reason was to pave the way for sons, but saw writing on wall at Gilman.

Give McD credit, they got the siblings without having to let him coach.

Doesn't matter same rules have been in place for a while nothing has changed. Every year for decades this time of year you hear these rumors. When was the last time you heard a transfer from one school to another in the MIAA make a difference? Once rostered and turned into the league you are locked in. If you want to leave you have to have current AD sign eligibility form that he puts down what teams and level kid was roistered. In short no shopping after tryouts or after season. Now I did hear a couple players opt out of playing this year when new coaching staff was hired. If you sat out this season you do not have to sit out when you leave.

It really depends if the school sent their roster to the league office.

If the school did, and the kid's name is on the list, its gonna be really tough to convince the league he didn't play in a league game. They don't want to sort through all the arguments. He was either a varsity rostered athlete or not.

The league is not very reasonable when it comes to eligibility. They wouldn't even give an extra year back to the C conference kid at Palotti who had documented massive life threatening illness and surgery.

Correct. If those kids sat out the whole spring and didn't participate in any varsity team activities, scrimmages or games, they are good.

Otherwise they will have to sit.

About 45% of Calvert Hall lax recruits tend to wash out by their senior year.

Still, those numbers are huge. And don't even count the kids they cut.

They will be fine.

Compare that to Loyola Blakefield who had 118 kids rostered after cuts:

52 V

27 F/S

Class sizes:

FR 32
SO 43
JR 19
SR 24

So 33-45% of the Loyola kids wash out too, usually between soph and Jr year.

It happens almost everywhere. But yes, it is much more obvious and apparent in the big programs like Loyola and Calvert Hall. Lots of 26s will hang up the cleats next year. Their "purge year" is upon us. The funnel gets smaller. Gotta make room for all the freshmen.

Some is, definitely not all or even most. St. Mary's does more with less.
Some still going to SMA, some going to St. Johns, BL and CHC.

Are showcases and combines worth it for incoming freshman (2028 class) or just a money grab?

All are expensive.

They are good for the fact that they will allow your kids to play against excellent competition and start building a resume if you are selected

But recruiting value is nil- it is a bit early.

The ECD ones are good. And New Balance All American.

Both give lots of game experience and reps.

They are not worthless.

They will not get you recruited as a rising 9th grader however.

The value is somewhere in between.

I would say the opposite st Mary’s always had talent but did less. Now with no talent bottom feeders. Things not changing anytime soon. Can’t recruit better than spalding either.

Best IN Class, National All Star Games, Elite 80, Lacrosse Masters, get it done.

Showcases like first in class are worthless to attend. Make sure you go to every prospect day or camps that schools your sons interested in have. Keep showing up and they’ll remember you when the time comes!!

Never do showcases!!!

Obviously you have never flown First Class like many MIAA parents do. Please refrain from any opinion as you are of some other class.

Showcases are like above, ok, but need other items added to make worthwhile.

This is terrible advice.

The top showcases will be loaded with college coaches watching the rising juniors. Attending them before then will get your son used to playing in that type of environment where you have a lot very good players playing very selfish lacrosse. Especially on attack and midfield. So my advice would be to give your son some experience attending a few before his recruiting summer so when his time comes he will know the drill. That said, I agree that prospect days are usually more important assuming your son is attending ones that are the right academic and lacrosse fit. His club coach should be able to help him determine which ones are likely a good lacrosse fit.

What you have to realize is the college lacrosse coaches go by Inside Lacrosse rankings for players. So @ChillLaxin it up and start paying IL money for evaluations as often as you can!! Also realize the coaches are paid to attend this showcases. It’s all one big money grab!

College coaches do not go by rankings. Those rankings mean absolutely nothing to anyone except the kids parents of the kids who are on them. Showcases are useless. Save your money and attend prospect camps of schools your kids are interested in attending.

Showcases are not useless if you couple them with prospect days. Obviously some showcases are much better then others. Coaches keep a depth chart on everything including potential recruits. They will go to as many showcase events that they can so they can get as many looks at their recruits. If you happen to catch their eye while they are there then it has paid off immensely. Advice is as a freshman and sophomore get your lists of schools together and email all of the coaches during that timeframe so they become familiar with your name

All this is determined by what school you are after, D1, 2, 3 . The better D1 schools are money making showcases and prospect days ( frankly most are) . Almost useless unless you are going to top HS or MIAAA school and starting.
Showcases are similar, most are money makers , but does get you to play against good competition as does prospect camps.
There is no one answer to getting recruited, depends on your Club, HS school, where you are looking to go , etc,
Give College coach name early, attend a few showcases and a few prospect camps, most will be money makers.
Any tournament you are at, let College coach know, who knows they may be there watching .

At D2 and D3 schools, any decent D1 school does not care about prospect camp except for recruits already on their radar. The rest are fodder no matter how you do.
