Next Level started 2 girls against Machine and still beat them. The densest argument of sports is "we’re missing key players btw." No one cares. Machine had every single top player including the hot shot Lawrenceville goalie who didn't have a save until the last few minutes. The reason why NL was ranked 9 is because they beat everyone below them, don't play cupcakes and gave the teams ranked above them competitive games. 7 of the 9 teams ranked above them are supersquads from huge regional areas and multiple teams. It's a testament to what is basically a rec team where 25 out of the 26 players live within 10 miles of the practice field. All credit to Machine parents though, they were shocked but complementary as they stood around saying "who is next level."
So the Machine goalie had a bad game, and the team didn’t take NL seriously. That explains a lot. Thanks.
This summer NL lost the following games to teams ranked below them…
Mad Dog West (ranked 23)
Mad Dog Gold (ranked 41)
2 Way (ranked 22)
Shore 2 Shore (ranked 20)
Team 10 (ranked 16)
Leading Edge (ranked 15)
Most of these games weren’t even close. I get that the rankings are not exact, but every team between 10 and 20 should be ranked above them. And others as well.
