Do any parents with experience have any insight on the Maryland All-Star Tryouts. Quite expensive for 1.5 hour try-out. Do the evaluators/coaches favor certain clubs?

Nice OOC schedule, still will be under 500 in MIAA . Dont have the players or debt to compete in MIAA A .

Why is that? There's tons of talent in their local market to recruit. Where is all that talent going?

Of the three privates in that local area, Severn is significantly more expensive, and academically more challenging to get into. Both make it hard to add talent, and then add to the fact, the local public school is considered one of the top public schools in both academics and boys lacrosse. Its a bit of an uphill battle.
Why are we talking about Severn. Their best chance to make some noise was last year and fell on there face thanks to the new coaching staff. Probably the worst group of coaches Coach C has put together! They will only go down from here once MIAA play comes around.

I have no experience with the event, however, upon cursory review of the web site (assume it is this: https://laxnationals.net/) the tournament is owned by the guy who runs Crabs lacrosse. Buyer beware. His Crabfeast tournament is quite expensive for what it is. It attracts some good teams, but the venues are poor - unless you like paying top dollar to play on dirt (here's looking at you, Gaucher College), and there are better ways to get your kid seen by college coaches.

WOW!!!

Last year was a missed opportunity for sure. Your reasoning, however, is off. Severn typically has limited depth and their FO was injured for a majority of the season. That was the difference. They will be better this year than many expect. I'm alsoo hearing that they added a few excellent 27s.

MSJ and Gilman are the only others to publish...

MSJ shouldnt be discussed unless it is about their one win this upcoming year, and the trainwreck called Gilman is worthy of being called the team that giving us an us many discussions on how to run a school and a program into the ground.

100% accurate by poster. Catholics are always going to be most conservative. For the non catholic schools BL is by far the most conservative. Only send your son to Gilman or MCD if he is interested in transitioning or becoming a lifelong social justice warrior.

At one end: A belief system based on stone age folklore oriented toward the control of free thought and expression. Especially attractive to those who are outwardly focused, lack introspection, and take pleasure in telling others how to live their lives while failing to apply said rules to their own behavior. See also: theocracies, cults, messianic faiths, racism, and misogyny.

At the other: A belief system based on facts, modern science, and accumulated knowledge that encourages people to pursue happiness so long as said pursuit doesn't interfere with the lives of others. See also: critical thinking, reason, emotional maturity, fully developed pre-frontal cortex.
Utterly clueless. The Catholic/Jesuit schools that still lean conservative teach kids how to excel in life. These liberal bastions of absurdity teach like their liberal politicians they follow— huge government to make decisions for you, they’ll support you financially, and they’ll flatten the playing field for the weak.

That’s why Gilman deserves to remain at the bottom of the MIAA. Kids who are soft, can’t compete. Different set of goals and aspirations— not that they’re wrong, they’re just not going to win the race against those who learn to battle adversity. Gilman kids can be social workers, the other end will be the CEO’s. Again, one not better or worse than the other, just a different set of ideals with very different outcomes.

St Paul's found surveying its 5th graders about their sexual orientation. Nice. Giving Gilman a run for most lib school in conference. This really is the most competitive conference in the nation.

I think most private schools have tryouts starting Feb 19 and public are Mar 1. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Any advice on the various showcases, such as Apex, MD Lacrosse Showcase, All America Tournament?
Are these worth doing for an incoming 9th grader? Cost vs amount of exposure?

Most fact based comment on BOTC since March 2020.

Beyond this, a decent # of AACO lax kids decide to attend DeMatha and other schools inside DMV/495. Some AACOs (a handful, total) bus up to the Baltimore schools as well. Particularly McDonogh, Curley (MIAA-B) and Loyola. For whatever reasons.

That's Hilarious. You must not be following the teams in the division. There is no way Spalding loses to St Marys this year, and the only way they lose to Severn is if they never touch the ball on offense. Which will not happen. Not saying they will win it, but they will be very competitive and have a good chance to make the playoffs. You animonsity to clouding your judgement!

Thank you for telling me you know nothing about lacrosse with one comment.

You saved us all some time.

We ask that you do 2 minutes of research before posting your smug comment.

Severn’s schedule is probably last or close to last in level of difficulty. Who is the best team on their OOC? Western Reserve? Landon?

McD, BL, Hall, Gilman and Loyola all have at least 2 teams significant tougher, most have 3 or 4. Nobody has an easier schedule. If you want to argue that JC does… go ahead.

They all play some combo of Malvern Prep, Hill, Lawrenceville, Haverford, St. John’s, St. Anthony’s, and Chaminade.

That didnt age well this weekend, I bet one of the 9's is a different number by next week. Lacrosse again reminds me , it is the sport where the extremely well trained 5-10 white guy can excel at the highest level.

Just have your son transition, I’m sure you believe he can turn into whatever he wants. Maybe he can transition into Labron.

If you don’t like who plays the sport, watch a different one who has the correct race for your taste.

Rumor has it that new #9 paid $10k for the number. Didn’t see old #9 in the box score, so not sure if he is changing his number.
