All teams played well. M&D got out ahead of Hero’s and slowed it down a little to hold on to the lead. Great execution. Coppermine started slow against CC Lax but pulled away in the 2nd. M&D and Coppermine went back and forth through most of the game with Coppermine get some important takeaways late to go up and stay up. All games were close and all teams played well. Coppermine and Hero’s came down to OT the day before and was a very exciting game. The three teams were clearly the best but anyone of the teams could have won and it was Coppermine in the end. They will definitely trade W’s and L’s for years to come. Congratulations to all.

All that matters is it was a great weekend of lacrosse. The playoffs were great matchups. Looking forward to seeing all the girls outside this spring. Players are getting better, teams are getting better, it will be fun.

Thanks for the color. Sounds like the top teams are gearing up for an exciting NGLL and tourney season. Good stuff.

None of them! You know what. They will all miss key players in the future. Injuries happen! Can’t be an excuse.

I disagree! We would have never lost to Coppermine or M&D if we had are full team there. We had multiple girls missing because of basketball and the referees did us no favors in either game. Are starting defensive would of easily shutdown Coppermine because we know the there are only 3 girls that are allowed to isolate and shoot.

Not an excuse, just a reality that there are other sports going on in the Fall and Winter and some girls will miss games/tourneys. Soon, lacrosse will take priority and all the girls will be focusing on the Spring and Summer seasons.

So, this is clearly a troll... as a Hero's parent I can tell you we weren't missing players and especially not missing because of basketball... so nice try starting drama when you don't know what you are talking about... go back under your rock and stir the pot somewhere else... Lots of great lacrosse played this weekend and looking forward to the spring.

Definitely a troll! I saw them all play each other and 1-2 plays made the difference. Players were talking after as were coaches cordial. Refs are always bad and def influence the game but girls have to adjust better to style being called. Fun weekend.

Ignore the noise…Girls from some teams were playing BOTH basketball and lacrosse at Spooky Nook this past weekend. Great to have girls playing multiple sports. Tremendous competition this weekend, they continue to push and make each other better!

Was a great weekend for all the teams- very competitive. I kind of like that the girls are respecting each others teams and even the parents from most of the teams are treating each other a lot better. Lots of compliments when opponents have great plays. It makes it more fun to watch and frankly everyone is in the same boat for the next few years. Might as well make it fun. I would also encourage the MD parents to make an effort with out of state teams. There will be future team mates coming from all these teams.

DC lacrosse thread seems to think that Hero's is a Howard Co team so half Baltimore/half DC team? Thoughts?

I'd say it's more like 75% Baltimore/25% DC. They have girls who play for DC schools, but the vast majority play IAAM.

I encourage all Maryland teams to post there about your respective teams (Skywalkers, Coppermine, Heroes, M&D, FCA, M&D West, etc. - all are welcome!). DC Urban Mom’s is the site and there is link to Girls 2028 Lacrosse under tge Lacrosse section in the forum index.

Ha, this person is clearly just trying to cause trouble as a majority of the posters on that site actively do NOT want to discuss Baltimore area teams. They only want to discuss teams in the DC area and which will send the most girls to Capital.

And Hero's is typically more HoCo-based, at least historically, as in that is where many of the kids reside. Going to school in HoCo is another story.

First rule of DCUM is Do not talk about Baltimore Lacrosse! They get very bitter when IAAM school whoops up on WCAC or ISL :P

What private schools will benefit from the influx of 2028s? Any particular school already have talent in house, and where is the interest for girls making the move?

Depends on which schools offer the most grant money! I know some will be going public unless the school offers at least a 50% discount.

SPSG and McDonogh will get the usual migration of girls, but it seems like for the 2028 year Maryvale will win the lottery. They already have one of the top middies and are looking to add a number of notably good players. Garrison is recruiting hard, not sure it will bear fruit locally but they have the ability to board non-local girls. NDP has some good players already there at 2028 and 2027, not sure they're really actively recruiting aside from that.

are any teams actually intersted in the US Clublax national championship? The timing is pretty awful July 19-21st after tryouts.

This is a good question. Agree that timing is not ideal.

Age eligibility is contradictory as well. The US Club Lax "National Championship" eligibility rules state that U14 must be born after 1/1/10, which would eliminate a number of players on 2028 top 16 teams who were born in the fourth quarter of 2009. This would contradict USA Lacrosse age eligibility rules, which include September-December 2009 birthdays in the U14/2028 group. The next line says U15 (which should really be next season for 2028s; commencing September 1st) is for "Graduation Year 2028". They really need to clarify.

Will be an issue for lower age groups as well. Not clear why they wouldn't just use USA Lacrosse rules like Nationals.

They need the talented local girls as well. Paying 30k and moving from Arizona isn’t gonna get them much. Gonna be hard to compete with MCD and Spsg. Kids wanna win and not many other options outside those 2 along with MVP and NdP in this area. Spalding will be the best in AA co. Webby is recruiting hard but BMS just isn’t a great fit for many. Rpcs is losing some talent from 28 class. Mercy will be back to B in a couple years along with GCS. You gotta remember there are really very few surprises in lax. The rich will get richer.

Why would anyone presume to get tuition half off when schools don’t give grant or scholarship money specifically for athletes?

NDP doesn't really seem to be doing much to actively recruit players...at least not on the level of some other schools. That said, I think they are usually competitive. Their school is on the bigger side and have a lot of girls who want to play lacrosse. They currently have some SW and Crush players in the 28 class. Could see them getting more from those clubs.

NDP attracts a lot of families because of the price point and has a large enrolment, so they'll always be competitive with recruits without even trying.

But competitive in the sense that they will vie for playoff spot but probably not win. Seems difficult to compete with other schools that are known for being the best lax programs, some of which do a good amount of recruiting, and one that is the exact same price point. But if your DD likes the school, then not winning a championship should not be a deterrent. A better question is probably whether he's a good coach or not and can your daughter have the opportunities she wants/needs there. I do think it's safe to say she'll get to play with plenty of other good players.
